  • Patent number: 5983807
Abstract: A lightweight, high strength folding table having a top assembly which includes a novel high strength, plastic reinforcing core. Pivotally connected to the top assembly are supporting legs. Interconnecting the supporting legs with the top assembly are novel folding leg mechanisms which include top assembly engaging links and leg engaging links pivotally connected both to the top assembly engaging links and also to the supporting legs. A locking rod extends between the top assembly engaging links, the end portion of which is slidably received within a slot formed in each of the leg engaging links. When the rod resides within the locking portion of the slot, the top assembly engaging links and the leg engaging links are locked against relative pivotal movement. However, when the locking rod is lifted slightly, the rod ends move into the channel portion of the slot permitting free pivotal movement of the cooperating links.

  • Patent number: 5954396
Abstract: A chair construction which includes connector mechanisms for rigidly anchoring chairs in assembled relation either in a linear fashion or in a curved array depending upon the positioning of the rear connector of a pair of front and rear connectors. The connector mechanisms are easily fabricated and can be readily affixed to the legs of the chair in a manner to enable the chairs by leg movement to be readily assembled and disassembled into the desired array. The connector mechanisms are specially designed and located so as to be unobtrusive and so as not to interfere with the normal use of the chair.

  • Patent number: 5944081
Abstract: A head cover for an iron golf club has an enlarged cover section which fits over the head of irons of different sizes. The cover section includes an internal cavity with an enlarged open mouth through which the head passes upon placing the cover section over the head and a protector section which covers, at least partially, the hosel member of the shaft when the head is received within the cavity. A clip near the open mouth expands with the shaft of the iron golf club being pushed into the cavity and retracts to hold the shaft when the head is received within the cavity. In one form of the invention, the clip is uniquely molded into the protector section of the head cover. In another form, the clip includes leg portions which can be lockably inter-connected to secure the head cover in position over the golf club.

  • Patent number: 5934203
Abstract: A table construction which can be quickly and easily dissembled for highly compact storage and one which is extremely versatile in use and highly attractive in appearance. A key aspect of the table construction is a novel, attractively sculptured leg assembly that can be used to support one or more table tops of varying configuration. The leg assembly is specially designed and configured so that it can be quickly attached to and removed from the table tops for easy storage and transport of both the legs and the tabletops. Because of the novel design of the leg assemblies, which include a broad, generally fan-shaped upper surface, a single leg assembly can be used to effectively support two adjacent table tops of either a conventional rectangular configuration or of non-rectangular design as, for example, tabletops having angularly extending sides.

  • Patent number: 5868081
Abstract: A lightweight, high-strength support platform for use in furniture construction, which has superior structural integrity and can be used, by way of example, in portable folding tables, in work tables and in modular furniture of the character typically used in modern office complexes. The support platform which may be rectangular or non-rectangular embodies a novel structural reinforcement core of a unique configuration which is both lightweight and exhibits superior strength and durability characteristics. In one form of the invention, the support platform also includes a reinforcement beam which circumscribes the central portion of the reinforcement core and which is generally "I" shaped in cross section.

  • Patent number: 5865128
Abstract: A folding leg mechanism for use in foldably interconnecting a foldable leg assembly with a support platform such as a table top. The mechanism includes platform engaging links; a platform engaging plate pivotally connected to the first and second links proximate the ends thereof; and first and second spaced-apart, leg-engaging links pivotally connected to the platform engaging links and to the leg assembly. Each of the leg engaging links has a rod receiving slot formed therein which includes a channel portion, a ramp portion located proximate one end of the channel portion and a locking opening disposed proximate the ramp portion. A locking rod extends between the platform engaging links with the end portion of the rod being slidably received within the channel portion of the slot formed in the leg engaging links. When the rod resides within the locking opening, the platform engaging links and the leg engaging links are locked against relative pivotal movement.

  • Patent number: 4841877
Abstract: A folding table construction embodying a planar top, foldable legs and a novel apron assembly connected to the underside of the top. The apron unit comprises elongated discrete, relatively short straight lengths of formed metal side and end strips, or stringers, which are securely interconnected together by spaced apart, one-piece, blow molded corner moldings adapted to be affixed to the underside of the table top. Due to the novel design of the corner moldings and the stringers, the construction of the supporting apron requires no metal bending or welding. Further, the corner moldings can be colored during the molding step and the stringers can be painted to match in small painting units prior to apron assembly. In an alternate form of the invention, the planar top is constructed in two pieces and the side stringers are constructed in two pieces which are hingably interconnected so that the table top can be folded for ease of transport and storage.

  • Patent number: 4768833
Abstract: A utility chair having spaced apart leg members, a frame supported by the leg members having a base portion and a back portion, the improvement consisting of a one-piece blow molded hollow back member and a one-piece blow molded hollow seat member adapted to be mounted on the base portion. The seat member comprises integrally formed front, back, top, and bottom walls. The top wall is vertically spaced from the bottom wall and is yieldably deformable. An upstanding reinforcing member is integrally formed with the bottom wall for providing rigidity to the seat member while at the same time permitting the top wall to flex downwardly a limited distance upon downward forces being exerted on the upper surfaces of the seat, thereby providing a cushioning effect.

  • Patent number: 4710049
Abstract: A padded safety hinge construction for use in infant playyards and the like wherein the fasteners which hold the padding of the hinge in place also function as the pivot pins about which the playyard legs pivot. The inwardly protruding extremities of the hinge mechanism and the connecting fasteners are completely covered with padding so that an infant within the interior of the playyard enclosure is safeguarded from contacting any part of the mechanical structure. Should the infant fall against the hinge assembly it will only contact the smooth, padded covering which fully encapsulates the hinge mechanism.
