  • Patent number: 8503269
Abstract: A timing device for indicating a passage of a duration of time is disclosed. The timing device in accordance with the embodiments of the invention has a grid array architecture. The grid array architecture includes an electrode structure with an anode layer, a cathode layer and a thermistor layer. The anode layer and the thermistor layer are electrically coupled through a plurality of cathode trace structures. In operation the timing device is actuated through a suitable mechanism to initiate depletion of the anode layer and, thereby, indicate a passage of a duration time. As the anode layer depletes, sequential cathode trace structures are exposed and the thermistor layer acts as a temperature dependent resistor through a plurality of exposed cathode trace structures.

  • Patent number: 8501800
Abstract: An ophthalmically acceptable vehicle includes an aqueous suspension having a first viscosity. The suspension includes about 0.1% to about 6.5% by weight of a carboxyl-containing polymer prepared by polymerizing one or more carboxyl-containing monoethylenically unsaturated monomers and less than about 5% by weight of a cross-linking agent. The polymer has average particle size of not more than about 50 ?m in equivalent spherical diameter. The vehicle includes a second polymer that allows the carboxyl-containing polymer to remain suspended. Upon contact with tear fluid, the vehicle gels to a second viscosity which is greater than the first viscosity. A method of administering a medicament to the eye of a subject includes applying a composition that includes this ophthalmically acceptable vehicle and a medicament contained for treatment of a disease or disorder for which ophthalmic delivery is indicated. The medicament is released from the vehicle in a sustained release manner.

  • Patent number: 8500268
Abstract: This invention concerns vision control panels and a method of UV inkjet printing vision control panels. A substantially imperforate light permeable material is partially printed with a ‘print pattern’ comprising a base layer and a design layer comprising a design colour layer. The method is limited to digital UV inkjet printing of all the superimposed layers required to make such panels. Optionally, the method uses a novel printhead array with a novel order of ink color supply and/or novel software to enable the required build-up of ink layers, for example of black, optional silver, white, cyan, magenta, yellow and process black colors. Printing is preferably arranged so that the base layer and design color layer are printed in the minimum number of passes of the printhead assembly of the digital UV inkjet printer to achieve the desired effect, preferably in one pass of the printhead assembly.

  • Patent number: 8496651
Abstract: A system and method are provided for an ophthalmic surgical procedure to provide a refractive correction for an eye. Specifically, the procedure is indicated when the desired refractive correction “dreqd” exceeds the capability of a correction achievable when corneal tissue is only ablated. In accordance with the present invention, an optimized refractive correction “d1” is accomplished by the ablation of corneal tissue (e.g. by a PRK or LASIK procedure). The optimized correction is then followed by a complementary refractive correction “d2” wherein stromal tissue is weakened with Laser Induced Optical Breakdown (LIOB). Together, the optimized refractive correction (ablation) and the complementary refractive correction (LIOB) equal the desire refractive correction (dreqd=d1+d2).

  • Patent number: 8490606
Abstract: An exhaust gas re-induction apparatus includes conduits and an outer housing, which receive exhaust gas from an exhaust system of an engine, and passively recirculate a portion of the gas to an air inlet of the engine while transferring another portion of the gas through orifices in the apparatus and via a return conduit to the exhaust manifold. An exchange of heat occurs between the exhaust gas, the various components and chambers of the re-induction apparatus, and the environment. Fuel efficiency is increased and harmful toxins and emissions are reduced. A system includes the re-induction apparatus and a recirculation conduit, which connects the re-induction apparatus to the air inlet of the engine before the vacuum, via a water separator or soot filter device depending on engine type. The amount of exhaust gas recirculated can essentially depend on the operating speed of the engine and the size dimensions of the apparatus.
