Patent number: 4774107Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for applying liquid, pasty or foamy substances to both sides of webs of material. To prevent any adverse effect on the web of material or the applied substances, application is performed by means of a pair of S-rolls 7,11 at a looping angle just enough for the application, the web of material being guided substantially straight. The two applicator rolls 7,11 are disposed as close as possible to one another immmediately upstream of the drier inlet 1. At least one of the applicator rolls 11 can be moved out of the operating position, to enable the web of material to be drawn in unimpeded.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1987Date of Patent: September 27, 1988Assignee: Vits Maschinebau GmbHInventors: Kurt von Kwiatkowski, Wolfram Durr, Heinrich Mortl, Rainer Schmidt

Patent number: 4429602Abstract: There is disclosed a method of crosscutting a web and stacking the resultant sheets which comprises continuously feeding said web toward a cutter, decelerating the feed of said web at the cutting point for the duration of the cutting operation, while continuing the feed toward said cutter at the same rate whereby a back-up occurs in the feed direction, cutting said web, causing the new head end of the web so formed upon said cutting to overlap the tail end of the resultant cut sheet on the conveying path, conveying said sheet to a sheet stack, after said cut sheet is moved onward to said sheet stack at normal conveying speed increasing the conveying speed of the web toward said cutter until the web portion which has backed up ahead of the cutting point has been stretched taut and caused to overlap the tail end of the cut sheet.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1981Date of Patent: February 7, 1984Assignee: Vits-Maschinenbau GmbHInventor: Hilmar Vits

Patent number: 4417586Abstract: A noninvasive blood pressure measuring device includes display means which may be digital readouts, a sphygmomanometer or other similar means, a compression cuff, a first flexible tube, a second flexible tube, an air leak valve and monitoring, control and display circuitry. Within the compression cuff is an inflatable bladder which extends in a longitudinal direction for substantially the entire length of the compression cuff. The monitoring, control and display circuitry includes a piezoelectric crystal assembly which provides electrical signals in response to air pressure levels and changes within the first flexible tube. The first tube connects this piezoelectric crystal assembly with the compression cuff and the second tube has a hand pump at one end for inflating the bladder. The air leak valve is in line with the first tube and the air leak valve has a continuously open air escape aperture of a size which corresponds to a predetermined leak rate proportional to the pressure in the bladder.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1981Date of Patent: November 29, 1983Assignee: Vit Vet Research Group, Inc.Inventor: Warren R. Patent number: 4263724Abstract: A freshly printed continuously traveling paper web leaves a heated print drying zone hot with its printing dry enough to avoid smudging but retaining a residual amount of the printing ink's solvent oil which continues to vaporize, forming a boundary layer of vaporizing oil traveling with the web. For cooling, the web wraps partially around one or more cooling rolls where condensation can cause the vapor boundary layer to condense on the exposed cold roll surface to a liquid phase, exerting a solvent action more or less resoftening the otherwise adequately dried printing with consequent smudging on the roll surface. To prevent this, the boundary layer is pneumatically removed from either this exposed surface of the roll not contacted by the web, or from the web itself, preventing resoftening of the printing by what would otherwise be liquid solvent oil.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1979Date of Patent: April 28, 1981Assignee: Vits-Maschinenbau GmbHInventor: Hilmar Vits

Patent number: 4247094Abstract: A sheet piler for sheets transported end-to-end at high velocity, has a reciprocating suction bar for reducing the sheets' traveling velocity so that their forward travel can be stopped without damaging the sheets, with the stopped sheets forming a pile. Rotating brushes press the sheets' trailing ends momentarily against the suction bar and the latter then reduces the sheets' travel velocity.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1979Date of Patent: January 27, 1981Assignee: Vits Maschinenbau GmbHInventor: Hilmar Vits

Patent number: 4222697Abstract: Device for removing a stack of sheets of paper from a place of deposit to which the sheets are conveyed by a conveyor including a platform and a carrier unit. The conveyor can be lowered in relation to the plane in which the sheets are conveyed as the height of the stack increases for receiving the stack. The carrier unit can be inserted above the platform in the area of the place of deposit and on which the sheets conveyed further to the place of deposit are stacked while the platform loaded with the stack is exchanged for an empty platform. The carrier unit is composed of two plates which are arranged directly one above the other and which are capable of being inserted independently of one another into the upper area of the stack.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1978Date of Patent: September 16, 1980Assignee: VITS-Maschinenbau GmbHInventor: Hilmar Vits

Patent number: 4218001Abstract: A blow box for suspended guidance and/or conveyance of strip material or sheets in which the blow means is blown with the effect of a blow jet issuing from a slot nozzle at an incline against the strips or sheets to be guided and/or conveyed. The blow box includes a barrier wall provided with blast openings which are arranged therein facing the strips or sheets so as to be close to one another in a row and have blowing directions which are substantially the same or which slightly diverge towards the ends of the blow box. Each blast opening is formed by a tongue positioned in the barrier wall, the tip of the tongue being sunk into the blow box, and an inclined guide surface which is arranged with its edges around the tongue and which is sunk into the blow box, together with the edges of the guide surface which overlap into the barrier wall.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1978Date of Patent: August 19, 1980Assignee: Vits-Maschinenbau GmbHInventor: Hilmar Vits

Patent number: 4058244Abstract: An air cushion nozzle for a device for conveying a web in suspension on an air cushion comprising a housing with two opposed walls having bent legs at the ends thereof resting on respective baffle plate portions supported on the housing. The legs have spaced semi-circular recesses therein forming tongues between the recesses which are in contact with the baffle plate portions to form two rows of discharge outlets for jets of air at the recesses extending toward one another in parallel to form the air cushion. The baffle plate portions can be joined together by a perforate plate. The baffle plate means can be bent at different angles to produce different angles of inclination for the jets of air produced at the two rows of discharge outlets.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1977Date of Patent: November 15, 1977Assignee: Vits-Maschinenbau GmbHInventor: Hilmar Vits

Patent number: 3943639Abstract: An air nozzle for drying a fabric web supported on a supporting frame has a nozzle head which is arranged transversely in relation to the fabric web. This nozzle head has a number of rows of adjacent nozzle holes extending in the nozzle head direction and located on the side facing the fabric web. The blowing direction of the nozzle holes in the discharge direction of the air blast, from the nozzle center to the edges thereof, decreases in steepness from one row to the next. Nozzle holes located in the same row have the same cross-section, where the cross-section of the individual nozzle holes, measured from the center of the air nozzle to the nozzle edges, increases from row to row. The total cross-section of the nozzle holes of each row, however, is constant, and the distance of the nozzle holes from the point of impingement of the appropriate jet core, from the center of the air nozzle to the nozzle edges, progressively increases from row to row.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1973Date of Patent: March 16, 1976Assignee: Vits-MaschinenbauInventor: Hilmar Vits
