  • Patent number: 8204001
Abstract: A method for preventing overload in telecommunications networks with IMS by always-on for a call generated by a user, in which process the user makes a PDP Context request and a GGSN of said network provides a free IP address to him or her and the PDP Context becomes active. An S-CSCF of the network creates a record in which an association between the IP address and a characteristic identity of the IMS network is included. When the GGSN is going to deactivate the PDP Context for having been inactive for a preestablished time, an indication of such deactivation is sent to the IMS client which maintains the characteristic IMS identity-IP address association and marks it as fictitious. When the user generates a new call, the IMS client informs the UMTS terminal about the characteristic IMS identity-IP address association marked as fictitious, and the UMTS terminal sends a PDP Context request message, in which message the IP address of the IMS association is included.

  • Patent number: 8170566
Abstract: A method of controlling selection of a data transmission network node, such as a base station, node B, eNodeB, GGSN or LTE PDN-GW, for a mobile device in a telecommunications network is disclosed. The mobile telecommunications network includes a plurality of mobility management nodes, such as SGSN and LTE MME. When the mobile terminal moves from a first one of the mobility management nodes to a second of the nodes, it is determined at the second node whether to cause the mobile terminal to re-select a data transmission network node. The determining step may be performed in response to a periodic routing area/periodic tracking area update request generated by the mobile terminal or in response to the mobile terminal being in an idle communication state. When the data transmission network node is re-selected, a data transmission network node that is relatively geographically near to the mobile terminal is selected.

  • Patent number: 8107407
Abstract: A system and method for use in a telecommunications network may utilize Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS), specifically, a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) or a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network may utilize MBMS and eHSPA technology. IP multicast connections directly between the eHSPA Node Bs and an IP address are utilized to reduce the amount of transport bearers that need to be established. Further, the RNC functionality for setting up an MBMS communication is divided between the eHSPA Node Bs and a legacy RNC, utilized as a CRNC. In particular, this arrangement enables the user plane to be effectively established from the enhanced node B, whilst still allowing the second RNC to have control of the control plane decisions. This therefore also allows the resources used in establishing the MBMS communication to be minimized.
