Abstract: Methods of predicting a change of users of a network enabled device and a network and network device configured to perform the methods. A present device category and a present device demographic profile are associated with the network enabled device. The present device category is one of a plurality of predefined categories each having a demographic profile associated therewith. The method includes: detecting a network event corresponding to the network enabled device; determining an event category corresponding to the detected network event, the event category being one of the plurality of predefined categories; and comparing the event category with the present device category. When the event category differs from the present device category, determining a new demographic profile based on the present device demographic profile and the demographic profile associated with the event category; and comparing the new demographic profile with the present device demographic profile.

Abstract: To facilitate authentication over a wireless access network, it is proposed to provide a hub device having an authentication storage means (i.e. a (U)SIM) to which one or more machine devices are connected. Each machine devices connects to a wireless access network and in order to authenticate with that network requests authentication information from the hub device. The core network of the wireless access network, authenticates each machine device and provides the machine devices with parallel access to the access network in accordance with authentication information obtained from the hub device. The authentication information is unique to the respective machine device but also associated with information stored on the authentication storage means of the hub device.

Abstract: To facilitate a change in network authentication key (Ki) for use by a smart card (SIM) during authentication on a cellular telecommunications network, there is provided a smart card management scheme that combines key derivation with over the air (OTA) provisioning. This scheme ensures both that the Ki is never transmitted OTA and that the Ki is stored in two locations only: on the SIM and at an authentication center (AuC).

Abstract: Method and network entities for providing good performance for voice in multiRAB connection for services of a CS+PS call setup (31) without high throughput necessity but providing good throughput for the services needing it. A differentiation of the multiRAB configuration (bearer type, mobility parameters and channel switching timers), based on service detection, is performed either in the RAN either in the CN indicating eventually this detection to the RAN. If the detected service needs high bit rate/throughput (35), the RNC reconfigures the multiRAB configuration (37) so that a bearer type providing high throughput is allocated to said service and the RNC reassigns mobility and channel switching parameters to maximise this throughput and the radio resources. If the service does not require high throughput (34), the RNC configures a bearer type and parameters for mobility and channel switching as specified by the standards to provide good performance (36), low dropped call rate.

Abstract: To control access by any given mobile terminal to a mobile telecommunications network, a smartcard (i.e. a SIM) is arranged to include a list of device identifiers corresponding to one or more mobile terminals together with an indication of their respective access categories (i.e. black-list, grey-list or white-list). This list is constructed from an updated list of identifiers of mobile devices into which the smartcard has been inserted. This may be enhanced with a limited number of generic excluded identifiers. The smartcard thus maintains a local database of banned devices and/or devices that need to be monitored by the network.

Abstract: According to an aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a method in a portable electronic device for handling fall detection, the method comprising: detecting a suspected fall; and, preventing or suspending, at least temporarily, a triggering of a fall process based on a status and/or historical status of the electronic device, the status and/or historical status being at the time the suspected fall was detected. A portable electronic device and computer readable medium may also be provided.

Abstract: There is described a method of accessing a resource requiring identity authentication, the method comprising: receiving at a communications device an encrypted token in response to an identity of the communications device being authenticated over a first radio access technology; decrypting the encrypted token using the identity of the communications device; and using the decrypted token over a second radio access technology to authenticate the identity of the communications device so as to allow access to the resource via the second radio access technology.

Abstract: A method and mobile device (UE) for enabling services in multi-RAT networks which support at least HSPA and LTE, comprising: identifying an initial radio technology on which a UE requesting service is camped, within a current cell; determining an indication of coverage of another radio technology available on the current cell which provides higher speed access than the initial one; deciding carrying the service, either through the initial radio technology or the other one of higher speed access, according to the previous indication. The indication of coverage can be based on any of the following criteria or a combination of them is met: 1) Terminal is camped on a HSDPA capable or LTE capable cell, 2) HSDPA signal strength is higher than a threshold, 3) LTE signal strength is higher than a threshold, 4) Measurements on the Peak Rate of the UE in a past time and in a location.

Abstract: A mobile telecommunications network includes a core network and a radio access network. The radio access network has a network node that wirelessly communicates with a mobile terminal registered with the radio access network. The radio access network includes a controller that controls the use of network resources by the mobile terminal and processes control plane signaling. The controller includes an applicator that receives policy information and/or routing information from the core network and provides instructions to the network node to act in accordance with the received information. The network node includes an enforcer that enforces the instructions received from the controller so as to control whether the terminal uplink user plane traffic and control plane signalling messages are passed to the core network, routed to the controller, or duplicated and provided to both the core network and the controller.

Abstract: A method of redirecting financial transactions between users of a financial transactions network is disclosed. The method includes determining financial transaction pathways between users of a financial transactions network, where the financial transaction pathways are indicative of one or more financial transactions between the users. The method also includes applying one or more edge weights to each pathway and calculating a centrality value for each user based on the one or more edge weights. The method further includes providing information to a first user of the financial transactions network that is configured to induce the first user to redirect at least a part of one financial transaction from a second user to a third user, when the third user has a higher centrality value than the second user.

Abstract: A mobile telecommunications device runs a plurality of applications installed on the device (for providing services to the device user). Monitoring means monitors the performance of the applications for generating performance data (for each application), and analyzing means analyzes the performance data (for each application) and to identify characteristics of the applications in dependence thereon. The mobile device may alert a user of the device of the problematic ones of the applications (for example via the GUI of the device). A mobile telecommunications device application performance analyzing apparatus may be coupled to the mobile telecommunications network that provides mobile telecommunications services to a plurality of mobile telecommunications devices and may receive the performance data and which includes analysis means for conducting analysis of the performance data to identify characteristics of the applications in dependence thereon.

Abstract: A mobile telecommunications network includes a core network operable to provide core network functions; and a radio access network having control means, and radio means for wireless communication with terminals registered with the telecommunications network. In some embodiments the control means includes a client function and the core network includes a director function, and the network includes channel controller means operable to control the establishment of a control channel between the client function and the director function. The control channel may be implemented using GTP Echo Messages or using G-PDUs.

Abstract: There is provided a method in a first communications device operable to communicate with a second device using a network supporting first and second different communication methods. The method comprises: allowing the first device to communicate with the second device using the first communication method; registering the first device on a service platform of the network; requesting from the service platform a second device status indicator of the ability of the second device to communicate using the second communication method; receiving the second device status indicator from the service platform; and, allowing the first device to communicate with the second device using the second communication method in dependence on the received second device status indicator. The second device status indicator depends on the current network connectivity of the second device. At least one of the first and second devices is a mobile telecommunications device.

Abstract: Method and system for improving the performance of mobile communication networks. The method and system employs the additional functionality whereby an additional phase offset can be applied to one of the physical paths (one physical antenna) in order to modify and adapt the transmit polarization. In the preferred embodiment, the criterion for selecting the additional phase offset will be to maximize the energy received from the HSPA serving cell by the legacy HSDPA user equipments.

Abstract: A telecommunications system is provided comprising a mobile device and an IP Multi-media Sub-system (IMS), the mobile device being connected to a Public Land Mobile Network, PLMN. The mobile device is adapted to: identify if the PLMN supports Customized Applications for Mobile network Enhanced Logic, CAMEL; and, upon receiving an attempt to initiate a call to a dialled number, if the PLMN supports CAMEL, allow the call to proceed. The PLMN is adapted to: receive a request to connect a call from the mobile device; invoke a CAMEL service trigger indicating that the call should be routed to the IMS; and, route the call to the IMS. The IMS is adapted to: control the call; and, refer the call to a call storage system for call storage. A mobile device, IP Multi-media Sub-system and method in a mobile device are also provided.
