Patent number: 4585275Abstract: For reducing the risk of any overheating when cutting or crushing rock by means of a partial cut cutting machine and for facilitating crushing or, respectively, cutting of the material, a pressurized liquid, for example water, is intermittently sprayed within an area facing the area to be excavated. Said mentioned area facing the area to be excavated is realized in connection with a cutting head by providing within a range of center angle of the rotating movement of the cutting head a plurality of radial perforations (18) adjoining an axial bore (8) for the supply of pressurized fluid, noting that this range of central area corresponds to that area which faces the area to be excavated or, respectively, the mine face. Radial channels (22) of the cutting head coincide during rotation of the cutting head (1) with the radial perforations (18), said channels feeding the pressurized liquid to the exit openings provided on the periphery of the cutting head (1).Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1984Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: Voest-Alpine AktiengesellschaftInventors: Herwig Wrulich, Alfred Zitz, Otto Schetina, Franz Schoffmann

Patent number: 4578627Abstract: With cutting machines, having their loading means (7) adapted to be lowered below the running surfaces (11) of the crawlers (2) of the drift advancing machine, there results an erroneous position of the machine on account of lifting the front end of the machine during such lowering movement of the loading means (7). For establishing the correct position of the cutting tool (6) and of the cutting arm (5), corrective signal are used which are released by angular position transmitters (16 or 17, respectively). By means of these angular position transmitters (16 or 17, respectively), the swivelling angle of the loading means (7) relative to the frame (1) or the swivelling angle .theta. of the operating cylinder (9) of the loading means (7) relative to the frame (1), respectively, is measured and the required corrective signal for the angle advance .DELTA..alpha. is calculated (FIG. 3).Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1984Date of Patent: March 25, 1986Assignee: Voest-Alpine AktiengesellschaftInventors: Bernhard Droscher, Alfred Zitz

Patent number: 4572281Abstract: To recover the sensible heat of slag the slag is allowed to solidify on the surface of a hollow cooling body provided with a liquid internal cooling and is indirectly cooled by the liquid internal cooling. The liquid cooling medium of the liquid internal cooling is guided in a thermodynamic cyclic process. In order to ensure as completely a recovery of the sensible heat of the slag as possible and a high percentage of glassy portions of the slag as well as a good grindability of the slag, the liquid slag on the surface of the cooling body is intensively cooled indirectly by the liquid cooling medium to a temperature of closely below the solidification temperature in a first cooling step. The solidified slag separated from the surface of the cooling body is then directly cooled by a gas flow in a second cooling step. The heated gas flow also is guided in a thermodynamic cyclic process.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1983Date of Patent: February 25, 1986Assignee: Voest-Alpine AktiengesellschaftInventors: Paul Mullner, Bernhard Enkner

Patent number: 4555143Abstract: For cutting rock by means of cutting head (1) having its bits (24) cooperating over a limited axial shifting stroke (a) with a cylinder-piston-aggregate, for example a valve (18), it is proposed to intermittently subject the cylinder-piston-aggregate to the action of pressurized fluid, thus exposing the bit (24) during its engaging the rock to percussion forces. During the phases lacking any action of pressurized fluid onto the cylinder-piston-aggregate, the bit (24) shall be pushed into its starting position. This embodiment can be realized with both hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder-piston-aggregates, noting that in case of an embodiment having a hydraulic cylinder-piston-aggregate it is preferred to design this cylinder-piston-aggregate as a valve (18) which simultaneously provides the possibility to expel pressurized liquid via a spraying nozzle (32) onto the mine face.
