  • Patent number: 5479807
Abstract: A hot strip coiler furnace is disclosed, which comprises a furnace hood, a drivable coiler drum, which is accommodated in the furnace hood and has a strip-receiving opening for receiving the leading end of the incoming strip, and a strip-receiving guide, which has a delivery end adjacent to the strip-receiving opening of the coiler drum when it is in a strip-receiving position. In order to permit the hot strip to be completely pulled into the coiler furnace, it is proposed that a strip-delivering guide for the outgoing strip is provided, which guide protrudes or is adapted to be introduced into the generally triangular space which is defined by the coil of strip and the incoming or outgoing strip.

  • Patent number: 5472178
Abstract: In a device for controlling a plug (5) of a metallurgical vessel (1), in particular a distributing launder of a continuous casting installation, with a plug (5), which can be raised and lowered and which is supported in a support frame which is movable relative to the metallurgical vessel (1), the support frame for the plug (5), which can be raised and lowered, is supported outside of the metallurgical vessel (1) displaceable in a direction crosswise to the lifting direction of the plug (5) and can be releasably locked together with the metallurgical vessel. By means of this a simple separation of the plug mechanism (9) and the metallurgical vessel (1) is possible without operational elaboration and an exchange of the metallurgical vessel (1), for example, is made possible without having to dismantle the entire plug mechanism (5, 9).

  • Patent number: 5453115
Abstract: A process for cooling and cleaning hot gas containing ultrafine particles exhausted from a coal gasification plant, a blast furnace, or the like. The process utilizes a vertical saturation stage to enrich the gas stream with water vapor and thereby saturate the ultrafine particles contained in the gas stream. The resulting mixture of particles, exhaust gas, water vapor, and water is then directed through a packing prewasher and then an annular clearance washer for removal of the particles through the rapid condensation of the water vapor. The water and particles are separated from the gas stream in several stages throughout the process resulting in a final gas exhaust stream with a significantly lower ultrafine particle content.

  • Patent number: 5439504
Abstract: In a process for the direct reduction of particulate iron-oxide-containing material by the fluidized bed method, reformed gas is mixed with top gas forming in the direct reduction of the iron-oxide-containing material and is fed to a fluidized-bed reduction zone as a reducing gas. To lower the energy demand and utilizing the potential of the reducing gas, both the top gas and the reformed gas are subjected to CO.sub.2 scrubbing and the reducing gas formed by mixing top gas with reformed gas is adjusted to an H.sub.2 content ranging between 45 and 75%, preferably between 50 and 65%, and to a CO content ranging between 10 and 20%.

  • Patent number: 5423201
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for continuously shaping a metal tube by means of shaping rollers, which are arranged around the tube and consist of pairs of rollers disposed on opposite sides of the axis of the tube. It is desired to permit an adaptation of the apparatus to tubes which differ in size and in final shape. This is accomplished in that each shaping roller is radially adjustable relative to the tube and is mounted to be pivotally movable about a pivotal axis which is parallel to the axis of the tube. Said pivotal axis extends through the center of curvature of an arc of a circle which is at least approximated by that portion of the rolling contour which is defined by said shaping roller or said pivotal axis is spaced from said center of curvature in a direction which is parallel to the axis of said shaping roller.

  • Patent number: 5381441
Abstract: A direct current arc furnace is described with a cathodic electrode held in the center of the melting vessel and an anodic bottom electrode arrangement in the vicinity of an electrically conductive lower vessel from the vessel wall to the melt. The current supply and removal takes place on one side via leads to a rectifier power supply set up in spaced manner alongside the furnace. The lower vessel is connected in several quadrants with leads and in the vicinity of each quadrant a connecting plate is provided on the furnace wall. Close below the arc the power supplies are led in a horizontal plane to the furnace wall. The current intensity for the quadrants of the lower vessel adjacent to the rectifier power supplies is lower than that of the power supplies to the remaining quadrants. The spacings of the connecting plates for the quadrant areas can be unequal.
