Patents Assigned to WABCO Westinghouse Fahrzeugbremsen GmbH
  • Patent number: 4631679
Abstract: A vehicle gearshift mechanism for a power-assisted transmission with a unilateral gearshift actuator which can be moved into speed selection positions and into a neutral position. The gearshift only has one speed selection position for a shift-up or shift-down, respectively. A respective optimum gear is assigned to the speed selection positions by an electronic evaluation control circuit. The evaluation control circuit receives signals representing the speed and the respective driving conditions of the vehicle to shift to the optimum gear.

  • Patent number: 4625841
Abstract: A power-assisted transmission with a gear shift suppressing arrangement in which the transmission is controlled so that the gears can only be changed when the clutch is completely disengaged. An electrical sensor senses and measures the movement of the clutch. The sensor is connected to an electronic evaluating circuit which controls the selection and the engagement of the gears. The evaluating circuit causes the disengagement of an old gear and initiates a serch for a newly selected gear when the clutch is depressed approximately two-thirds (2/3) of its full stroke. When the full clutch stroke has been reached, the newly selected gear is completely engaged. If the clutch is reengaged before the engagement of the newly selected gear, the transmission is shifted to the neutral position.

  • Patent number: 4617961
Abstract: A pilot-controlled solenoid valve apparatus includes a valve housing having an entrance chamber, an exit chamber, and a discharge chamber formed therein. An inlet valve controls fluid pressure flow from the entrance chamber to the exit chamber while an outlet valve controls fluid pressure flow from an exit chamber to the discharge chamber which exhausts to atmosphere. The inlet and outlet valves each include respective membrane diaphragms which have control chambers disposed on one side; which control chambers are pressurized by means of respective inlet and outlet control valves. Disposed on each of the membrane diaphragms are annular symmetric bodies which each have a longitudinal bore formed therein to allow communication between the respective control chambers and the exit and discharge chambers when the respective control valves are opened. An inlet and an outlet solenoid valve arrangement controls operation of the respective inlet and outlet control valves.

  • Patent number: 4598374
Abstract: A vehicle gearshift selection system for a multiple-speed power-assisted transmission having a gearshift lever which is shiftable into a single shift-up position or a single shift-down position. A gear sensor for monitoring the position of the gearshift lever and connected to an evaluation control circuit. The electronic evaluation control circuit is connected to the multiple-speed power-assisted transmission and receives signals concerning the prevailing driving conditions of the vehicle for engaging an optimum higher gear when the gearshift lever is shifted-up and for engaging an optimum lower gear when the gearshift lever is shifted-down.

  • Patent number: 4584487
Abstract: A component control arrangement for transit-type vehicles having a distributed plurality of vehicle components to be monitored and controlled, includes a number of function control modules, each being associated with a specific vehicle function; as for example, wheel-skid, climate-control, and verification systems. The function control modules, each communicate in a multiplex arrangement over a shared data bus and a transceiver arrangement, with a distribution unit. The distribution units have an output configuration allowing connection to a variety of vehicle operating devices including lamps, switches, solenoid valves, and electric motors. The function control modules evaluate status indications originating from the vehicle operating devices and transmitted through the distribution units and a transceiver arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4575157
Abstract: A pneumatically controlled double seat relay valve including a housing for accommodating a reciprocating control piston having a first reactive surface acted upon by a source of control pressure and having a second reactive surface acted upon by a source of working pressure. A spring biasing valve piston slidably disposed in a tubular projection formed in the control piston. A spring biased slidable valve member disposed in a central bore formed in the housing and including an inlet valve cooperatively associated with an inlet valve seat formed by an annular lip of the central bore. An outlet valve seat carried by the slidable valve member and cooperatively associated with one side of the valve piston to initially close the outlet valve and subsequently open the inlet valve when control pressure is applied to the first reactive surface and for allowing the inlet valve to close when working pressure is applied to the one side of the slidable valve member to overcome the spring bias.

  • Patent number: 4570502
Abstract: A transmission gearshifting arrangement in which the gearshift lever is provided with a normal shift position and a fast shift position, the latter resulting in relative motion between the gearshift lever and a cam plate. This relative motion produces closure of a fast shift switch to signal the electronic evaluation circuit of the desired fast shift. In the absence of a signal, a normal shift speed is indicated. A pressure control valve capable of producing a bilevel rate or pressure is controlled by the evaluation circuit to cause a power cylinder to effect the gearshifting at either a normal or a fast speed.

  • Patent number: 4548079
Abstract: This invention teaches a method and apparatus for the determination of the weight of a moving vehicle driven by an internal combustion engine. The invention provides means for the determination of a value corresponding to the driving torque of the engine, and for the determination of an acceleration value corresponding to the acceleration of the vehicle. The measuring means are controlled in such a manner that the torque value can be determined at the same time as the acceleration value. Furthermore, a calculating device is provided in which one or two values of the driving torque value--determined at different times--as well as values of the acceleration variable--determined at said times--are utilized for the determination of a weight variable corresponding with the weight of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4523513
Abstract: A pneumatic door control equipped with a door control valve for operating a door drive to an open or a closed position. The door control valve has an opening and a closing solenoid-operated pilot valve and an opening and closing spool valve, each operable to a passage or a vent position. A shuttle valve is part of the control valve and works in conjunction with an operator-controlled emergency valve to vent both spool valves simultaneously. A differential pressure switch is connected to the door drive to sense abnormal pressure expended in a door-opening or closing movement. Such an occurrence will output a signal to an electronic switching device which also monitors, via limit switches, whether a door is fully opened or fully closed. If excess pressure occurs during a door-closing movement, the switching device will trigger the control valve to reverse to the opening position.

  • Patent number: 4515530
Abstract: A reciprocating piston compressor which is driven by a rotating camshaft and cam. An auxiliary piston is located below the compression piston. The auxiliary piston is movable by a regulated control pressure against the compression piston so that the compression piston is stopped at its top dead center position. Thus, the reciprocating piston compressor is disabled since the compression piston is no longer driven by the rotating camshaft and cam.

  • Patent number: 4510906
Abstract: An accelerator pedal control mechanism provides a positionable stop to resist pedal depression beyond a point at which optimum fuel economy is realized during vehicle acceleration. The position of the stop relative to the accelerator pedal is controlled by an electronic circuit that is programmed to select the desired point of accelerator depression for a given condition of engine operating parameters. A caged limit spring is carried on the underside of the accelerator pedal for engagement with the stop, thus allowing the operator to sense the additional resistance of the spring through the accelerator pedal when the appropriate amount of accelerator depression is reached. The spring allows the operator to override the programmed control by pressing on the accelerator pedal with sufficient force to overcome the limit spring.
