  • Patent number: 4221285
Abstract: A coin chute adapted to receive interchangeable coin slides. One type of slide may have one or more coin sockets fitted with one or more knock-out plugs to accommodate differently sized coins in each of the sockets. Another type of slide has either one, two, three or four open coin sockets of different sizes. The chute carries a blocking device with a plurality of sizing dogs biased against the coin slide. The sizing dogs are adapted to engage with the coin receiving sockets of the slide to jam continued projected movement of the slide in the absence of predetermined sized coins therein. The position of the dogs relative to the sockets of the slide and the spacing between the dogs is pre-set to similarly engage with differently sized socket openings of replacement slides without further adjustment of the sizing dogs to permit interchangeable use of coin slides whereby the coin chute is operable to accept a variety of differently sized coins and coin combinations by changing slides.

  • Patent number: 4221089
Abstract: A pair of safety stop blocks are welded to opposite sides of the fly section of a construction crane boom. The stop blocks have slide passages to receive the branches of a boom extension or load cable which is looped around an arcuate saddle near the base of the fly section. A pair of stop buttons are swaged to the extension cable branches between the saddle and the two stop blocks and are normally spaced somewhat from the stop blocks to allow the cable to seek an equal loading position around the saddle. The stop blocks carry cable retainer elements near the tops of the slide passages to prevent the escape of the cable therefrom. Should the extension cable fail in any region thereof under load, at least one swaged stop button will be engaged by a stop block of the boom fly section to positively arrest its retractive movement before any damage can occur.

  • Patent number: 4204186
Abstract: The invention is a temperature probe including an elongated electrically conductive housing having one closed end and one open end. Electrically connected to the inner surface of the closed end is one lead of a thermistor, the second lead of which is connected to the inner conductor of a coaxial cable extending into the open end of the housing. The outer conductor of the cable is electrically connected to the housing near its open end in such a manner as to compress the cable within the housing and induce longitudinal deformation thereof. The compression of the cable within the housing insures that the first thermistor lead is in intimate contact with the closed end of the housing when an electrical connection is made therebetween, preferably by a heliarc welding operation.

  • Patent number: 4194453
Abstract: A safe deposit box nest includes an outer housing into which are assembled a number of sheet metal partitions and shelves to form compartments. In order to eliminate the need for individually fitting each compartment door, each such door is hinged to and strikes against posts formed by extruded members such as aluminum attached to the front of the partitions. To the same end the forward edges of the shelves are disposed between the posts and doors and are folded rearwardly upon themselves and compressd to form shelf edge portions of uniform thickness. Finally, the nest is constructed in a manner which reduces welding to a minimum and helps insure accurate and uniform compartment openings to which the doors are applied.

  • Patent number: 4184573
Abstract: A disc brake primarily for use in a power transmission train between a drive motor and a gear speed reducer features a standardized compact and simplified hydraulic module containing a single piston and a coacting floating cylinder head and an adjusting collar to regulate the movement of the piston. The standardized module is compatible with and operationally connectable to a variety of brake disc assemblies of differing size and torque arresting capacity. The disc brake is biased "on" by constantly acting spring means behind the piston in the hydraulic module when the hydraulic system is depressurized. The brake also possesses a fail-safe capability and has a very desirable "soft feel" during operation due to hydraulic cushioning between the piston and floating cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 4162485
Abstract: A multi-zone fire protection system in which each protected zone is provided with a detector for producing an alarm signal in response to the presence of combustion products, a source of fire extinguishing agent, and a pull box station manually operable to induce discharge of the extinguishing agent into the protected zone. Each pull station possesses a signal lamp that can be energized to signal an abnormal condition to personnel present in the area. A signal lamp in a given zone is energized via a central control panel in response to an alarm signal from a detector associated with that zone, thereby clearly indicating to personnel at hand the specific zone in which a fire has been detected.

  • Patent number: 4156501
Abstract: A cylindrical money box assembly that is received in a housing through a generally circular opening thereof and has a locking mechanism with a plate that is rotatable to position projecting portions in relation to a set of parts of the housing. In one position of the plate, corresponding to an unlocked state, the projecting portions are located to clear the set of housing parts allowing insertion of the money box assembly into the housing, and removal therefrom. In another position of the plate, corresponding to a locked state, the projecting portions engage and interfere with the set of housing parts to securely lock the money box assembly to the housing.

  • Patent number: 4155438
Abstract: A combination coin operated mechanism and a non-reusable frangible coin-simulating element that is operative to activate the mechanism. The mechanism is of the type having a coin slide which is adapted to receive the frangible element, and wherein the presence of said element in the mechanism is operative to allow projected movement of the coin slide to an operative position. A camming plate is provided to engage with and deflect the frangible element upon projected movement of the coin slide. A constraining plate is also provided to engage with the deflected frangible element upon projected movement of the coin slide and limit further movement of said element, whereby said element fractures upon continued projected movement of said slide.

  • Patent number: 4155234
Abstract: A combination lock for luggage, for example, which may be surface mounted. ial gears and cooperable gears have separate axes parallel to the thickness of the lock. In the on-combination position, hubs of the cooperable gears are aligned with openings in a slide that is moved relative to the hubs to permit an actuator to move a latch to its open position. The latch may also be moved to its open position by a hasp, even when the combination is scrambled. A shifter, which has an operator accessible at the face of the lock only when the hasp has been released by the latch, moves the slide and the cooperable gears as a unit, to disengage the cooperable gears from the dial gears for changing the combination.

  • Patent number: 4140474
Abstract: A burner control system including a valve for controlling the flow of fuel to a burner, a flame sensor for producing a flame signal in response to the presence of flame at the burner, a start-up circuit for producing a start-up signal, a control circuit for opening the valve to establish fuel flow in response to either the flame or start-up signal, and a timing capacitor first delays the generation of the start-up signal while charging during a predetermined purge period after energization of the start-up circuit and then terminates the start-up signal while discharging during a predetermined ignition period. A monostable electronic switch produces the start-up signal in response to the charge level on the timing capacitor and a valve initiator for opening the valve is powered by energy discharged by the timing capacitor during the ignition period.

  • Patent number: 4133419
Abstract: A money box support arrangement in a housing for receiving a lockable money box of the type having transversely extendable locking bolts, which support arrangement secures the money box against removal from the housing. On the housing is provided a wall having an opening into which the money box is inserted, and positioned within the housing behind said wall is a frame secured to the housing. The frame has an opening for the insertion therethrough of the money box and flanges spaced with respect to said wall to define therewith channels that receive and confine the locking bolts of the money box to secure it against further movement relative to the housing, either inwardly or outwardly, thereby preventing removal of the money box by prying.

  • Patent number: 4125282
Abstract: A turnbutton latch has an improved male part comprising a hollow stud supting a turnbutton at one end of the stud. A bolt is fixed to the turnbutton within the stud, and a turnbutton spring biases the turnbutton to a closed position, at which the bolt depresses a trigger against the bias of a trigger spring. When the turnbutton is manually turned to open the latch, the trigger moves toward the turnbutton, blocking the bolt and preventing the turnbutton from closing the latch until the trigger is depressed. A female part placed over the turnbutton and the stud when the latch is open depresses the trigger to close the latch.
