  • Patent number: 4119118
Abstract: Fluid links are interposed between manual levers which control the motions of a machine such as a construction crane and associated spool valves which regulate the machine motions. In normal operation within predetermined safe limits of machine motions, pressurized fluid delivery valve means connected with the fluid links is conditioned by a normal signal from a safe machine motion sensing means and delivers pressurized fluid to the fluid links rendering the links "hard" so that the manual levers are enabled to effect safe machine motions. When an unsafe machine motion is sensed by the sensing means, the valve means responds to the interruption of the normal signal from the sensing means and is conditioned to interrupt delivery of pressurized fluid to the fluid links thus rendering the links "soft" and thus disabling the manual levers from causing machine motions beyond safe limits.

  • Patent number: 4098172
Abstract: A self-aligning and end fixity connector for connecting a hydraulic cylinder piston rod to its respective boom section in a multi-section telescopic boom assembly wherein the piston rod end is rigidly and fixedly secured to a structural part of one boom section. The cylinder barrel has a lost motion connection with a next adjacent boom section whereby slight movement in a vertical direction can occur between the cylinder barrel and said next adjacent boom section. The arrangement significantly increases the column loading capacity of telescoping crane boom hydraulic cylinders and reduces significantly the tendency for cylinders to bind with their piston rods due to inevitable cocking of boom sections.

  • Patent number: 4045923
Abstract: A telescopic extension jib for crane booms increases the reach of the boom and therefore increases the utility of the construction crane. To facilitate manual extension and retraction of the movable jib section relative to the fixed base section, a system of rollers is employed between the relatively movable jib sections. In the socketing area of the jib at full jib extension, upper and lower rollers are spring-mounted and can bear the dead weight of the movable jib section when the same is unloaded. Coacting bearing pads engage the top and bottom faces of the movable jib section under loading to distribute stresses over larger areas, the spring-mounted rollers retracting automatically to enable the movable jib section to engage the bearing pads in the socketing area. A locating pin is provided to lock the jib sections against accidental relative movement in both the extended and retracted positions of the jib.

  • Patent number: 4044351
Abstract: A system for monitoring a protected premises from a central station over telephone lines employs different audio tones sent back and forth over the lines. A random succession of audio tones from the central station interrogates the protected premises and is returned as a like succession of different tones to the central station where the latter tones are compared with the first to indicate a normal or a trouble condition at the protected premises or on the lines. When an alarm condition exists at the protected premises, still different tones are sent over the lines to cause an alarm alert at the central station. The entire system can be tested from the protected premises, including operation of the trouble and alarm circuits, without producing a trouble or an alarm alert at the central station.
