  • Patent number: 4560076
Abstract: This relates to a closure having incorporated therein tamper indicating mechanism. The closure is provided with a tamper indicating member in the form of a sleeve which is divided into upper and lower bands which are separate from one another except for rupturable bridges. In lieu of relying solely upon the axial movement of the unrestrained part of the tamper indicating member to effect rupture of the bridges, the tamper indicating member has formed thereon lugs which cooperate with lugs on the neck finish and which lugs have camming surfaces to force the lower band axially away from the upper band as the closure unit is rotated in a removal operation. Separation of the bands may also be assisted by cooperating ramp surfaces between the two bands which become operative when the upper band is rotated and the lower band is held against rotation. This abstract is not to be construed as limiting the claims of the application.

  • Patent number: 4557393
Abstract: A closure for a container which includes a cap portion having a snap-on or friction fit with the neck finish and wherein the cap portion remains tethered to the container by way of a tethering strap extending between the cap portion and an anchoring band permanently affixed to the container neck finish. The tethering strap and the anchoring band are part of an extension of the skirt of the closure cap with the tethering strap being defined by a continuous weakening line of which portions must be ruptured in order to release the cap portion and to define the tethering strap. The rupturing of these portions gives indication of tampering.

  • Patent number: 4533059
Abstract: This relates to a closure cap for containers wherein the end wall of the closure cap and more particularly an end panel thereof may be subjected to a vacuum which will determine the condition within the container. The closure cap involved is of a small diameter and is specifically intended for use in conjunction with neck finishes having diameters ranging from 27 mm to 43 mm. The end panel of the closure cap is of a specific configuration so that a small diameter central portion in the form of a button will evert under the existing vacuum conditions so as to present a substantially plain end panel when the vacuum condition exists within the container and which will show a popped up button when the vacuum has been relieved. The button will be indicative of product condition or possible tampering.

  • Patent number: 4448320
Abstract: This relates to a closure utilizing a liner which is formed of plastisol or like material which puffs or expands upon curing after the liner has been applied. By providing the liner with a skirt portion and by increasing the radial thickness of a lower part of the liner skirt portion through a shaping of the skirt of the closure shell, the cured liner skirt portion will expand differentially and form, on the inner surface of the liner skirt portion, a bead which will snap over and lock beneath a bead on a container neck finish to lock the closure in a container sealing position. The closure may be removed and reapplied to reseal the container.

  • Patent number: 4444325
Abstract: This relates to a container neck finish which is particularly constructed to have an interlock with a closure of the pry-off type. The container neck finish has a peripherally projecting locking bead which includes an upper camming surface and a lower locking surface, and the associated closure has within the skirt thereof an extension of the usual gasket or sealing liner wherein, when the closure is applied to the neck finish locking bead, will deform the adjacent portion of the liner and form an interlock therewith which serves to retain the closure in place. The interlock permits the prying off of the closure and will serve again to retain the closure in place for the purpose of maintaining the original seal when the closure is reapplied.

  • Patent number: 4442947
Abstract: This relates to a plastic material closure which is provided with deformable sealing flaps and cooperating abutments wherein when the closure is drawn down onto a container, the flaps will deform in accordance with the cross section of the sealing surface area of the container including down inside of the mouth of the container and down alongside the exterior surface of the neck finish to provide effective sealing contact with the container sealing area. Separate seals between the flaps and the container neck finish permit the same closure to be used to form gas-tight seals both with respect to high internal pressures and vacuum packs. The seals are liquid-tight and the closure may be used for reclosing the container against liquid loss.

  • Patent number: 4423822
Abstract: This relates to closures for containers such as jars and the like wherein the neck finish of the container is provided with an annular locking ring and a skirt of the closure is provided with a series of circumferentially extending and circumferentially spaced lugs for locking the closure in place. The closure may be entirely formed of a resilient plastic or may include only an annular rim which carries a metal panel forming the general end wall of the closure. The skirt is molded so as to define a tab which may be engaged by one's thumb and folded or hinged radially outwardly so as to facilitate application of the necessary lifting force to remove the closure from the container. There are several different tab formations and at least certain of the tabs have associated therewith tamper indicating means.
