Abstract: A dual mode imaging system includes a dual wavelength ROS suitable for imaging xerographic media and erasable media. When included in an imaging system this includes media transport for selectively conveying non-erasable and erasable media to corresponding imaging positions in the dual mode imaging system. The system further includes a photoreceptor and a raster scanned light beam positioned to selectively image one of the photoreceptor and the erasable media. The media transport includes a non-erasable media transport path and an erasable media transport path, the erasable media transport path diverted from the non-erasable media transport path. An erasable medium in the diverted erasable media transport path intercepts a UV imaging raster scanned light beam, and in the absence of an erasable medium, the photoreceptor intercepts an IR raster scanned light beam.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for adjusting estimated ink pile height to reduce the frequency and effects of a defect known as a halo defect. An estimated ink pile height profile of ink to be deposited on a surface in an area of image data having a foreground and a background is determined. The estimated ink pile height profile has a foreground color area including a top color component and at least one non-top color component in the foreground. Then, the estimated height profile is adjusted if the difference between the pile heights of the foreground and background is greater than a threshold condition.

Abstract: An edge sensing apparatus is disclosed including first and second emitters, first and second detectors and a timer. Beams radiated from the first emitter being emitted in an opposite direction from beams radiated from the second emitter. The first and second detectors being aligned to receive beams from the first and second emitters respectively, where the first detector is offset in a cross-process direction from the first emitter and/or the second detector. The timer receiving signals from both the first and second detectors, wherein a change of the signals determines a position of an edge of a substrate media sheet causing the change of signals. Also, an edge sensing method is disclosed including measuring a mean time associated with a change of signals received from the two detectors and determining a location of a sheet edge causing the change of signals based on the mean time.

The screen image obtaining unit obtains a screen image including an icon. The image attribute obtaining unit obtains an image attribute that is an attribute of the icon. The apparatus attribute obtaining unit obtains an apparatus attribute that is an attribute of another apparatus. The determination unit determines whether to display, on the other apparatus, the icon included in the screen image obtained by the screen image obtaining unit, based on the image attribute obtained by the image attribute obtaining unit and the apparatus attribute obtained by the apparatus attribute obtaining unit.
Abstract: A method, system, and product for separating an image into a set of layers (background, foreground, and selector) and processing those layers to produce an output image of reduced size with improved compression and greater image quality. Each pixel of image data is processed based on signals produced from the set of layers and their attributes. The method includes determining values for signals being processed based on a look-up table or template, as well as changing values based on each pixel and its neighboring pixels.
Abstract: A photoreceptor charge transport layer thickness determining apparatus for a photoreceptor including a scorotron charge device having coronode wires and a scorotron grid positioned between the corona wires and the photoreceptor charge transport layer, the scorotron charge device being configured to charge the photoreceptor layer using corona discharge to generate ions directed to a surface of the photoreceptor charge transport layer. A first current measuring device measures a current supplied to the coronode wires and outputs a first current value, a second current measuring device measures a current being delivered to the scorotron grid and outputs a second current value, and a processor receives the first and second current values and determines a current delivered to the photoreceptor charge transport layer by subtracting the second current value from the first current value, and determines a thickness of the photoreceptor charge transport layer using the current value.

Abstract: A method receives, at a processor of a printing apparatus, a variable information print job. The variable information print job is processed into upper planes of the record-specific objects, upper planes of the reusable objects, lower planes of the record-specific objects, and lower planes of the reusable objects. The method stores such objects within a storage medium of the printing apparatus. The method combines ones of the compressed upper planes of the record-specific objects and the compressed upper planes of the reusable objects corresponding to the record of the variable information print job using the processor to create a single compressed upper plane for the record within an output buffer of the printing apparatus and creates an ordered list (corresponding to the record) of lower plane tiles by assembling the compressed lower planes of the record-specific objects and the compressed lower plane reusable objects.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are optimal or near optimal algorithms implemented as software tools that will allow the user/machine to identify optimal media out of the job set automatically. There are at least two main process steps to the exemplary embodiment. The first step involves the off-line characterization of the printing/image rendering system that will be used to extract the principal basis vectors from the experimental data. The second step involves the run-time mode, in which the pre-characterized basis vectors are used in conjunction with an optimal algorithm that will identify the media for re-calibration/re-characterization from the group of media set that the customer is interested to print. The optimal algorithm performs the combinatorial search every time the customer wishes to select the media. Once the optimal media is selected, the customer or the machine can print color patches (which are also optimal set) and execute the rest of the processing to reconstruct the best color management LUTs.
