Abstract: An apparatus and automated method are disclosed for alignment of objects in a document which allows saliency within one or both objects to be a factor in the alignment. The method includes, for an input electronic document, identifying first and second objects to be aligned on a page of the document. A one dimensional guideline profile is generated for at least the first object based on a detection of saliency for the first object. The first and second objects are aligned based on the guideline profile to form a modified document and the modified document is output.

  • Publication number: 20100277540
Abstract: A method of operating a printhead of an imaging device includes actuating a plurality of ink jets of the printhead to emit drops of ink onto an image receiving surface in accordance with a test pattern. The test pattern includes full pixel density areas and half pixel density areas that alternate in a process direction. Distances in a process direction between drops of the full pixel density areas and drops of the half pixel density areas in transition regions of the test pattern are then measured. The measured process direction distances are then correlated to a graininess level for the printhead.

  • Publication number: 20100280929
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and system for determining a billing structure for outputting documents using an image processing apparatus. If image data of the document includes color pixels, a billing structure is determined for each page based on an amount of color coverage. The marked color pixel locations of the image data to be output in the device dependent space are counted. Each color pixel location comprises at least one color plane. In some cases, a ratio of the count of the marked color pixel locations to a maximum number of pixel locations may be used to determine the amount on the page. Processing and determining a billing structure based on image data in the device dependent space, irrespective of the amount of ink/toner or color planes used, avoids charging a customer for color print job when only a small amount of color pixels are printed.

  • Publication number: 20100276872
Abstract: A method and system feeds a sheet through a media path in a process direction. When the sheet is within a sheet registration carriage of the media path, the method and system align the sheet to a predetermined lateral position within the media path. The aligning process comprises unevenly activating nips within the sheet registration carriage and moving the sheet registration carriage in a lateral direction perpendicular to the process direction. When the sheet is within the sheet registration carriage, the method and system determine a lateral movement distance the sheet registration carriage will move in the lateral direction during the aligning of the sheet. If the lateral movement distance exceeds a predetermined distance, the method and system move the sheet registration carriage toward the starting position after the nips have released the sheet, but before the sheet has passed by the nips.

  • Publication number: 20100277770
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for color trapping on halftoned bi-level bitmaps. Color edges are detected and edge pixels that need to be trapped are identified. The number of pixels qualified as edge pixels eligible for color trapping can be up to a pre-determined number of pixels away from the color edge. Estimates for the continuous-tone values are obtained for the dominant colors on each side of the two-color edge. The contone value of the dominant color on the opposing side of the two-color edge is assigned to the qualified edge pixels. Qualified edge pixels are re-halftoned using their assigned contone value so that halftones for one color are extended beyond the edge into the other color. The re-halftoned edge pixels are combined with the original bitmap to produce a new bitmap for the image. The new bitmap is then provided to an image output device.
