Abstract: A transaction card is formed of an electrically-alterable display material. The display may be altered by the application of an external field, without requiring any circuiting on the card. The card also includes an information storage medium, and both the information storage medium and the display may be accessed by a card reader.
Abstract: When a hardware or software problem reoccurs, a customer is rarely able to remember and repeat the process that was performed by a customer service representative to correct the problem the first time. By capturing desktop events and/or one or more other available data streams during the first customer service engagement, and making a document containing that data available to the customer, the customer can solve a reoccurrence of the problem without having to contact the customer service center. The captured data is integrated into a single multimedia document, which has an indexing capability, highlights critical information, and includes annotations and/or comments. The integrated multimedia document can be distributed to the customer by the customer service representative during an engagement, over a customer accessible network site visited by the customer, or in a CD-ROM provided with the product.

Abstract: A trickle collection system including a trickle port formed in a developer housing and communicating with the interior of the developer housing, and a trickle port housing communicating the trickle port with an external vacuum collection source. The trickle port may include an aperture having a variable cross-section, for controlling an amount of flow of trickle through the trickle port. The trickle collection system also may include an air infusion port communicating the interior of the trickle port housing with external air and providing infusion of an amount of external air into the trickle port housing sufficient to facilitate flow of trickle from the trickle port to the external vacuum collection system. An aperture of the air infusion port may be variable, such that the amount of air infusion may be varied in accordance with internal and/or external conditions.

Abstract: A printing apparatus and method for duplex printing a document having a show-through watermark wherein the watermark is comprised of first and second images on both sides of the document. The images comprise stoclustic halftone screens having a substantially common registration wherein the second image is relatively shifted from the first image for forming an associated overlay pattern between the first and second images resulting in a recognizable pattern comprising the watermark upon illumination by a show-through light source. The watermark is unrecognizable from either image alone upon illumination from a front light source. The relative shifting can be implemented by either phase, frequency or angle shifting between the front and back side images.
Abstract: A user to conducts a telephone conversation without speaking. It does this by moving the participant in the public situation to a quiet mode of communication (e.g., keyboard, buttons, touchscreen). All the other participants are allowed to continue using their usual audible technology (e.g., telephones) over the existing telecommunications infrastructure. The quiet user interface transforms the user's silent input selections into equivalent audible signals that may be directly transmitted to the other parties in the conversation.
Abstract: A method for driving a self-scanning light-emitting element array is provided in which two light-emitting elements may be illuminated simultaneously in one chip. In a self-scanning light-emitting element array including a transfer element array and light-emitting element array, a magnitude of the write signal for illuminating adjacent two light-emitting elements simultaneously is two times that of the write signal for illuminating one light-emitting element. The self-scanning light-emitting element array is composed of a plurality of self-scanning light-emitting element array chips arranged in a linear manner, and the two-phase clock pulses are applied commonly to the plurality of self-scanning light-emitting element array chips.
Abstract: Techniques for generating temporary digital ink on media are provided. Marks or gestures are made using one or more temporary digital inks on media, such as an digital document. Digital ink may be dynamically determined to be permanent or temporary. Each mark or gesture using temporary digital inks may fade based on at least one condition. The conditions include a predetermined time determined based on, a first stroke of the temporary digital ink, completion of the temporary digital ink, appearance of the temporary digital ink to another user, a first stroke of a succeeding group of digital ink, and a stroke of the succeeding digital ink is completed. Conditions may also include changing display attributes, such as color and thickness of digital ink, and fading or switching in reaction to an audio or video signal.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a pair of opposing covers; a recording part that forms an image on a sheet; a feed roller that feeds the sheet to the recording part; and a discharge roller that discharges the sheet on which the image is formed by the recording part. The recording part and at least one roller of the feed roller and the discharge roller are supported with the pair of the opposing covers.
Abstract: The presently disclosed embodiments relate in general to electrophotographic imaging members, such as layered photoreceptor structures, and processes for making and using the same. More particularly, the embodiments pertain to a photoreceptor undercoat layer that includes titanium oxide with untreated surface to improve image quality.

Abstract: The present invention provides an organic conductor comprising a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and an electric charge-donating material bonded to the deoxyribonucleic acid, and an organic conductor comprising at least two DNAs; and an electric charge-transfer substance bonding to each base of the two DNAs.
Abstract: An electronic conference system includes a portable storage device that stores written content as image data, a reader that reads the image data recorded in the portable storage device, and a display controller that incorporates the image data read by the reader as additional image data into image data to be displayed on a display device and displays the image data incorporating the additional image data.
Abstract: A data processor that erases data stored in a storage device includes an erase information storage unit that stores an erase information indicating a description of an erasing process having been performed, corresponding to an erase-specified area, after the erasing process for the erase-specified area, being an area specified to be subjected to the erasing process, is performed.
Abstract: An electrostatic latent image carrier having core particles and a resin coating layer that coats the surface of the core particles, wherein the surface roughness of the core particles exhibits a surface roughness Sm that satisfies the expression Sm?2.0 ?m and a surface roughness Ra (compliant with JIS B0601) that satisfies the expression Ra?0.1 ?m, the surface roughness Ra (compliant with JIS B0601) of the electrostatic latent image carrier satisfies the expression Ra?0.5 ?m, and a sphericity of the electrostatic latent image carrier is 0.975 or higher.
