Abstract: A device to measure toner concentration can include a selector that selects a type of developer material to be measured and a sensor that detects an amount of light reflected off a developer material. A controller within the device can determine a value corresponding to a toner concentration of the developer material based on the amount of light detected by the sensor.
Abstract: Systems and methods preserve the information lost in gamut-mapping during marking (e.g., printing) such that the lost information survives the marking and recapture (e.g. scanning) process. Generally, an encoding method may include gamut-mapping and image for a particular device; determining a residual image; and embedding the information needed to recover the residual image within the pixels of the gamut-mapped image. Generally, a decoding method may include extracting the embedded information from the image; and using the residual image to restore the gamut-mapped image to the original image.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus has an extracting unit, a dividing unit and a text searching unit. The extracting unit extracts a text part from an image. The dividing unit classifies text in the text part based on color information of the text. The text searching unit searches the text based on the color information.
Abstract: Techniques for media segmentation are disclosed. A number of measures used to generate similarity values are compared. Two different approaches to calculate feature vectors based on pairwise frame similarity in combination with different kernel functions are disclosed. A supervised classification method is used with the feature vectors to assess segment boundaries.

Abstract: The invention displays video search results in a form that makes it easy for users to determine which results are truly relevant. Each story returned as a search result is visualized as a collage of keyframes from the story's shots. The selected keyframes and their sizes depend on the corresponding shots' respective relevance. Shot relevance depends on the search retrieval score of the shot and, in some embodiments, also depends on the search retrieval score of the shot's parent story. Once areas have been determined, the keyframes are scaled and/or cropped to fit into the area. In one embodiment, users can mark one or more shots as being relevant to the search. In one embodiment, a timeline is created and displayed with one or more neighbor stories that are each part of the video and which are closest in time of creation to the selected story.

Abstract: A free sheet, high speed, color tandem printing system that controls registration of images from one imager to another while mechanically decoupling individual imagers and all the while maintaining relative registration of each of the color separations by the use of spherical transport servo devices or spherical nips (SNIPS). SNIPS correct skew, lateral, and process positions and ensure proper registration of a sheet with a station.
Abstract: Methods and systems for separating encapsulated particles from empty shells. One method involves providing a mixture including at least one dipolar particle encapsulated in a shell and at least one shell which does not encapsulate a dipolar particle. The mixture is positioned in a spatially inhomogeneous electric or magnetic field and at least one encapsulated dipolar particle is isolated from the mixture.

Abstract: An a.c. driving system photo-writing type recording medium having a substrate formed an electrode layer on one side thereof, a transparent substrate formed a transparent electrode layer on one side thereof, an optical switching layer having a pair of charge generation layers each including a charge generation material; and a charge transport layer including a charge transport material, disposed between the pair of charge generation layers, and a display element layer, in which the electrode layer of the substrate and the transparent electrode layer of the transparent substrate are opposed to each other, and the following equation (1) is satisfied |Ipcgl?Ipctl|?0.5 eV??(1) where Ipcgl is an ionization potential of the charge generation material and Ipctl is an ionization potential of the charge transport material.
Abstract: As a retrieval result, appropriate text of a second language is provided in response to a retrieval request by text of a first language. A first directory storing part stores a first directory structure created for a first language. A second directory storing part stores a second directory structure created for a second language. A directory relation storing part stores correspondences between directories in the first directory structure and directories in the second directory structure. A directory retrieval part receives a retrieval request by the first language from a user and decides which directory in the first directory structure the request has a high degree of relation with. A multilingual retrieval part decides documents having a high degree of relation with the retrieval request, of documents belonging to a directory in the second directory structure that corresponds to the decided directory.
Abstract: A domain block extracting unit extracts a domain block image from an original image. A range block extracting unit extracts a range block image from an area in the vicinity of the domain block image. The range block image has size being larger than a domain size and being smaller than an enlarged size. A reduced range block forming unit reduces the range block image to the domain size to produce a reduced range block image. A similarity judging unit compares each of the reduced range block images with the domain block image to select the highest similarity range block image. An enlarged range block forming unit forms an enlarged range block image by enlarging the size of the highest similarity range block image to an enlarged size thereof. An enlarged image acquiring unit produces an enlarged image of an original image by employing the respective enlarged range block images.
Abstract: An image formation apparatus that has a fuser roll/belt in pressure contact with a pressure roll that forms a nip, a meter roll that receives a release agent, a donor roll in press contact with the meter roll and is disposed between the meter roll and the fuser roll/belt to transport the release agent from the meter roll to the fuser roll/belt, a metering blade disposed adjacent to the meter roll that regulates an amount of release agent on the surface of the meter roll, and a smoothing/camouflaging device in contact with a surface of one or more of the fuser roll/belt, the meter roll and the donor roll, that smoothes/camouflages a non-uniform application of the release agent.
Abstract: Selective edge softening and selective edge dithering is introduced into an image representation to improve local control where halo problems are expected. Selective areas of dilation are isolated and separately dithered or halftoned, the result of which is then swapped back into or substituted for the stored original image. In this manner misregistration and color plane-to-plane interactions can be compensated for in plural image forming station architecture systems. The same technique is also valuable in monochrome systems as an aid to overcoming edge displacement and slow toner problems when the selective edge softening is selectively applied to edges which are in particular perpendicular to the fast scan direction.
