Abstract: The tone reproduction curve is smoothed to eliminate or reduce artifacts due to abrupt changes in the final system tone reproduction curve. As the tone reproduction curve approaches an end point, it is modified, if necessary, so that the angle between a tangent to the tone reproduction curve at a point, and a line from that point to the end point is less than a threshold value. The end point is considered to be a corner of a box, the threshold value is a function of the distance from the point to the nearest of the walls of the corner, and the threshold value goes to zero as the distance to the wall goes to zero. Thus, the tone reproduction curve is guided to the end point in a smooth and monotonic fashion.
Abstract: A process for preparing a colorant of the formula which comprises preparing a first reaction mixture by admixing leucoquinizarin and, optionally, quinizarin, an aminobenzene substituted with an alcohol group of the formula —R1—OH, boric acid, and an optional solvent, and heating the first reaction mixture to prepare an alcohol-substituted colorant of the formula followed by converting the colorant thus prepared to either an ester-substituted colorant by reaction with an esterification compound which is either an anhydride of the formula or an acid of the formula R2COOH in the presence of an optional esterification catalyst or a urethane-substituted colorant by reaction with an isocyanate compound of the formula R4—N?C?O and brominating the colorant thus prepared, wherein either conversion to ester or urethane can be performed before bromination or bromination can be performed before conversion to ester or urethane.

Abstract: Printing equipment for processing relevant print requests from a plurality of host devices in parallel and its printing control method. A plurality of logical printers are provided in one unit of physically existing printing apparatus and one logical printer is allotted to each one of host devices so that processing of the print data from a plurality of host devices can be carried out in parallel. One virtual host interface exists for each logical printer and this host interface establishes session with the corresponding host device to transfer data. Each logical printer independently takes charge of emulation, respectively. Operating a plurality of logical printers in one unit of printing apparatus realizes multi-session and multi-emulation.
Abstract: In a digital scanner or other source for sending documents by electronic mail to a client, the size of the document is determined and a calculation is made of how many segments the document must be divided into. If the required number of segments is so large as to present a risk of flooding a network, a warning is displayed to a user. The system is particularly useful in the context of scanning to e-mail full-color images.
Abstract: A system and method of determining a residual toner mass on a receiving member includes providing one or more test patterns to the receiving member, transferring the test patterns from the receiving member to a transfer medium, determining a sensor signal obtained after transfer, processing the sensor signal obtained after transfer and determining an amount of residual toner mass based on the processed sensor signal. A xerographic marking device also includes a receiving member, an array-type optical sensor or a point optical sensor arranged on the receiving member, and a controller that generates one or more test patterns, transfers the test patterns to a transfer medium, determines a sensor signal obtained after the transfer by the optical sensors, processes the determined sensor signal, and determines an amount of residual toner mass based on the processed sensor signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting image quality defects in images rendered by a rendering device. Original image data is rendered by an image rendering device, and the rendered image is captured by an image capturing device. Regions of interest may be identified to provide information indicating where image quality defects of the rendering device, may be identified. At each region of interest, the original image data may be compared to the captured image data of a corresponding region of interest to determine color difference of the captured image at the region of interest. The color difference may be subsequently converted from a device independent color space to a device dependent color space. Based on the converted color difference and input intensity of the original image data at the region of interest, a colorant error may be determined for the region of interest, and/or a scan line and a row line including the region of interest.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a gloss coated paper having specific properties for enhanced toner adhesion. The critical specific properties of the paper include the combination of a thermal diffusivity of less than approximately 8.5 mm2/s, a polar liquid contact angle slope of less than approximately ?12.0 and a non-polar liquid contact angle slope of less than approximately ?5.5. A method of printing gloss coated paper in an electrophotographic apparatus includes forming an image with an electrophotographic toner in the electrophotographic apparatus and transferring the image to the gloss coated paper.

Abstract: A user conducts a telephone conversation without speaking. It does this by moving the participant in the public situation to a quiet mode of communication (e.g., keyboard, buttons, touchscreen). All the other participants are allowed to continue using their usual audible technology (e.g., telephones) over the existing telecommunications infrastructure. Abstract: A document size identification module receives a single scan of a document and detects for at least one of a black to white transition and a white to black transition. The black to white transition may represent a transition from an overscan area of a platen to a document. The white to black transition may represent a transition from the document to the overscan area of the platen. By detecting at least one of the black to white transition and the white to black transition, the document width may be determined. By determining the document width, the document size may be identified.
