Abstract: A color image forming device and method prevent occurrence of pile height moires specific to electrophotographic images in low-frequency areas and conventional moires in a digital screen set of four colors. In the color image forming device, by at least one of a halftone generating part and scanning signal forming unit in an image processing unit, differences among screen angles of three dot patterns corresponding to cyan, magenta and black toner images are in the range about 25 to 40 degrees, preferably 30 degrees; the screen angle of a first dot pattern corresponding to a yellow toner image is made equal to that of a second dot pattern corresponding to the toner image of one of cyan, magenta and black; and the screen of the first dot pattern is brought about 150 to 210 degrees, preferably about 180 degrees out of phase with the screen of the second dot pattern.
Abstract: A method for classifying pixels into one of a neutral category and a non-neutral category inputs a group of pixels within an image into a memory device. A color of each of the pixels is represented by a respective color identifier. An average color identifier is determined as a function of the color identifiers of the pixels in the group. One of the pixels within the group are classified into one of the neutral category and the non-neutral category as a function of the average color identifier.
Abstract: A color calibration job identification system and method are provided, wherein the job identification data is encoded on a printed page, in a patch code, along with color targets, according to a protocol and format approximately identical to a format of the color targets. The patch code comprises a first portion, including a start code, and a second portion, including job identification data. The first portion of the patch code is comprised of two or more small color patches, each having a predefined color. The second portion of the patch code is comprised of two or more small color patches wherein each of the patches is comprised of a color selected from a plurality of colors, wherein each of the colors is indicative of a unique datum value, preferably an octal digit. The system provides a means for determining correct functioning of a printer and a means for determining an orientation of a printed page in a scanning device.

Abstract: The present invention enables registration adjustments during actual use of an image forming apparatus. A test pattern is formed on a sheet in a full-color image forming apparatus and the test pattern formed on the sheet is read in an image read unit. From the result of reading the test pattern, misregistrations of vertical and horizontal scaling factors, parallelism, squareness, skew, side registration, and lead registration in the test pattern are determined, and mounting positions, drive timings, drive speeds, and the like of constituent members are adjusted.
Abstract: A pixel value change processing section corrects the value of a current pixel in an input image so that the size of a code produced by a coding processing section is reduced, and outputs a changed pixel value. When predictive coding is employed, the pixel value change processing section outputs the same pixel value as that which is predicted by a predictor. When arithmetic coding is employed, the pixel value change processing section outputs a pixel value at which a dominant symbol is obtained in the arithmetic coding. The coding processing section produces a code from the changed pixel value 310. The pixel value change processing section produces an error value between the current pixel value and the changed pixel value. An error distribution processing section produces an error distribution value from the error value and adds the error distribution value to the pixel value of the input image.
Abstract: Disclosed is an aqueous ink composition comprising an aqueous liquid vehicle, a colorant, and an additive wherein, when the ink has been applied to a recording substrate in an image pattern and a substantial amount of the aqueous liquid vehicle has either evaporated from the ink image, hydrogen bonds of sufficient strength exist between the additive molecules so that the additive forms hydrogen-bonded oligomers or polymers.

Abstract: A method and system for masking a surface to be etched is described. The method includes the operation of heating a phase-change masking material and using a droplet source to eject droplets of a masking material for deposit on a thin-film or other substrate surface to be etched. The temperature of the thin-film or substrate surface is controlled such that the droplets rapidly freeze after upon contact with the thin-film or substrate surface. The thin-film or substrate is then treated to alter the surface characteristics, typically by depositing a self assembled monolayer on the surface. After deposition, the masking material is removed. A material of interest is then deposited over the substrate such that the material adheres only to regions not originally covered by the mask such that the mask acts as a negative resist. Using such techniques, feature sizes of devices smaller than the smallest droplet printed may be fabricated.

Abstract: A photoreceptor module for an electrophotographic device that includes a tension roller, a photoreceptor belt, which wraps around a plurality of backing members and the tension roller, and a rotatable handle. When the handle is in a first position it engages at least one other module within the device to maintain proper spacing between the at least one other module and the photoreceptor module. When the handle is in a second position, the tension roller is retracted so that the belt may be removed more easily.

Abstract: An optical encoder that includes an optical grating and a quadrature optical encoder sensor that move relative to each other. The optical grating includes a first encoder bar and a plurality of second encoder bars, wherein the first encoder bar is optically configured to change an amplitude of an output of the quadrature optical encoder sensor.
Abstract: A system for integrating services in a system includes a plurality of services, wherein each service includes a software component associated with the system and provides at least one functionality. A user interface, such as a web browser, displays the plurality of services, wherein each service has a link associated with it for accessing the service directly. A scripting shell, responsive to selection of a first service and a second service from the plurality of services, pipes the first and second services together to form a scenario such that output from the first service is provided as input to the second service. A link may be associated with scenario for accessing the scenario directly.
Abstract: The concept of a document assembly tree is extended to include in nodes, such as a node describing a sheet 330 or a node describing a compilation 342, a sample interval specification. The sample interval specification is interpreted as a request to produce sample copies of the part of a job described by the node every time the sample interval specified in the node has transpired. Digital printing system modules are arranged and configured to provide a sample job destination 39 separate from the main job destination.

Abstract: A method for mapping a color specification to colorant amounts when a first and a second colorant have a similar hue involves the division of portions of color space into regions. Colors of the similar hue are rendered with a first colorant, a second colorant or a blend of the first and second colorants depending on which region of a color specification space the color specification is related. An image processor operative to map color descriptions via the method includes a colorant splitters operative to map a color description to colorant amounts for colorants of similar hue. In a xerographic environment, such an image processor includes a xerographic printer.
Abstract: An information display system in which information can be referred to without a power supply anytime and anywhere like information recorded on paper, and in which information can be rewritten repeatedly, and such information can be outputted instantaneously and in large numbers. An image accepted by an image input unit (1 in FIG. 1) is converted by a signal processing unit (11) into a data format for writing the image into a display unit (3). An information sending unit (12) controls plural display elements (3-1 to 3-N), and it sends the information to-be-displayed to the plural display elements (3-1 to 3-N) in parallel through a connector array (13). Thus, the image accepted by the image input unit (1) can be instantaneously displayed on the multiple display elements (3-1 to 3-N). The display elements (3-1 to 3-M) have storability.
