Abstract: An electroconductive member contains an electroconductive composition using a thermoplastic elastomer material having advantages such as reduction in energy of production process thereof and capability of being recycled, and which makes it possible to prevent a change in resistance by sending an electric current, improve uniformity of electric resistance, and reduce dependency on an electric field and a resistance-change by environment. The electroconductive resin composition contains an epoxidized diene block copolymer; a thermoplastic elastomer other than the epoxidized diene block copolymer, a conductive agent and one of a thermoplastic resin and a compound having an amino group.
Abstract: A method for processing digital images to be displayed, stored, or printed, to eliminate blooming and other artifacts. The system utilizes morphological processes to isolate and modify image structures susceptible to marking process artifacts and then combines the modified image structures with the input image to produce a printable image that may be rendered on a given printer.

Abstract: A symmetric key encryption system includes a printer or copier for performing decryption in two passes. During a first pass an encrypted image is decrypted to define a first partially decrypted image and during a second pass a complement of the encrypted image is decrypted to define a second partially decrypted image. The first partially decrypted image is formed when the encrypted image is rendered onto a first recording medium through a stencil. The stencil, which is a random arrangement of holes, is overlaid on the first recording medium to permit only selected portions of the encrypted image to be rendered on the recording medium. During the second pass, the complement of the encrypted image is rendered on a second recording medium through a complement of the stencil to yield the second partially decrypted image. Overlaying and aligning the first partially decrypted image and the second partially decrypted image finally decrypts the encrypted image.
Abstract: A document-services dialog window, accessible from all applications of a mobile computing device (MID), interacts with other applications on the MID, and with remote document services on a document access server. The applications on the MID are linked to the document access server and to the document references stored in a document reference repository on the MID. The document references can be beamed to another MID. The document services interface is invoked to access a desired document reference and enables a user of a MID to execute actions on a selected document via the selected document reference.
Abstract: Information indicating an area of an image and information indicating attributes of the image have been stored in an IC chip attached to an original paper. When a copying apparatus performs a character recognition process operation with respect to an image displayed on the original paper, the copying apparatus reads the information related to the area of the image and the information related to the attribute of this area from the IC chip attached to this original paper. Then the copying apparatus separates an area where a character is displayed therefrom. The copying apparatus executes the character recognition process operation with respect to the image of the separated area.
Abstract: Measuring electrodes are disposed in positions T5 and T6 according to the international 10-20 system. Electroencephalographic data obtained from these measuring electrodes is received in an input portion, and converted into phase analysis data on a phase plane V-dV/dt by a phase analysis portion. By use of a set of feature parameters selected from an aspect ratio, a V-axis maximum value, a sub/total revolution number ratio and an RL/UB distribution ratio in a feature parameter calculating portion, a Mahalanobis distance is calculated in a Mahalanobis distance calculating portion. The abnormality of the electroencephalogram is judged on the basis of the Mahalanobis distance, and a result of the judgment is outputted.
Abstract: To produce images at high speed, to conserve energy, and to be satisfactorily operated over the long run, a method fixes a toner onto an electrophotographic image-receiving sheet with the use of a belt fixing and smoothing apparatus and thereby forms an electrophotographic image. The belt fixing and smoothing apparatus includes a hot-pressing member, a belt member, a cooling device, and a cooling-releasing section. In the method, the total heat capacity per unit area in portions where the belt member, the toner, and the electrophotographic image-receiving sheet are in contact with one another is 840 J/K/m2 or less.

Abstract: There is disclosed an apparatus for supporting evaluation of usability in consideration of situations particular to each business and ISO evaluation standards. The usability evaluation support apparatus uses an instrument including a display portion for displaying information, and supports the evaluation of usability in achieving a given task. During acieve of the task, a control unit acquires information of an operation log related to an operation performed by a user, and divides an effectiveness index associated with achievement of the task, efficiency index associated with efficiency for the achievement, and satisfaction index associated with subjective satisfaction of a task achiever for each predefined subtask. The unit evaluates the indexes by a statistical calculation using measurement results of a plurality of measurement items including the information of the operation log for each subtask.
Abstract: In a system, such as in a digital copier, for classifying image data derived from an original image, the image data is classified by type. An algorithm is applied to the gray levels of pixels surrounding each pixel of interest. The algorithm determines whether a local maximum or minimum is part of an image of closely-spaced lines.
Abstract: In the invention, words in f-structure are represented as illustrations that can be understood by any persons regardless of what languages they use, whereby it is made possible to make the f-structure completely language-independent representation. Accordingly, two translation systems of a translation system from one language L into f-structure using illustration representation and a translation system from f-structure using illustration representation into language L are simply constructed, whereby communication support among persons using every language can be provided.
Abstract: A uniform identifier record for a digital file comprises a unique identifier field and a textual identifier field. The unique identifier field may comprise a uniform resource locator. Alternately, the unique identifier field may comprise an integer. In one embodiment, the unique identifier is created by adding a constant value to a last prior unique identifier. The textual information is a user-friendly string identifying the file. In applications where the file identified by the uniform identifier record is associated with a separate file, the uniform identifier record is appended to the associated file.
Abstract: Writing a decompressed bit-map cell in accordance with a pixel count and a fill order pattern based on half-tone threshold values of a half-toned bit-map compression cell that was used to determine the pixel count.
Abstract: A system operating on a network for learning a language includes a memory for storing a scenario having tasks to be carried out in the language. A connection manager accepts a plurality of connections from one or more user systems. A virtual reality subsystem represents the scenario in a physical setting. A communication subsystem provides at least one channel over which users communicate text when carrying out the tasks in the language. Linguistic tools receive and disambiguate an identified term in specified text. A search subsystem retrieves information related to the specified text. The set of linguistic tools disambiguate the identified term in the information retrieved by the search subsystem to identify example uses having a meaning similar to the identified term in the specified text to aid the users of the user systems to comprehend the text communicated in the language over the at least one channel.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus judges whether first processing information of current sheet information is different from that of preceding sheet information. If they are different, the current first processing information is notified to a finishing device. The finishing device prepares for processing based on the first processing information. Upon completing the preparation, the finishing device notifies preparation completion information to the image processing apparatus. Upon receiving the preparation completion information, the image processing apparatus starts image formation processing on the next sheet and notifies second processing information to the finishing device. Upon receiving the second processing information, the finishing device calculates a processing time necessary to perform a finishing operation and notifies it to the image forming apparatus.
