Abstract: The file server determines to register whether to or not to accept a data file in accordance with the printing charge of the accepted data file and an attribute of a printing device that prints the data file. When a user registers a data file in a file server, the file server compares its printing charge with the upper-limit amount of money set to a payment accepting unit of the printer. And when the printing charge exceeds the upper-limit amount, the file server rejects registration of the data file, and otherwise registers the data file.
Abstract: A web-based shared document repository includes recommender system functions to allow users of the repository to input reviews of documents contained in the repository and to read inputted reviews. The recommender system functions appear as a seamless integration in the document repository by loosely coupling the shared document repository to a web-based recommender system.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method to generate a style sheet comprising the steps of first determining a set of layout constraints such as design criteria to act as ‘soft’ constraints or could additionally include the requirements of a particular output device. Alternatively, the constraints could be explicitly specified or expressed as properties of a good layout design. Next, the present method has the step of representing the style properties of the document as problem variables. These variables could advantageously include font, text line, or color properties in addition to positioning properties including graphical style. Then, solving the constraint problem and outputting the generated style properties in the form of a style sheet wherein the style sheet is a Cascaded Style Sheet (CSS) or an Extensible Style Language (XSL) specification.

A method which enables of manufacturing the optical element in a simple and convenient manner at a low cost is also provided.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus that forms a raised print image by successively transferring foaming toner and non-foaming toner onto a recording medium in correspondence to print image information and heat-fixing onto the recording medium the foaming toner and the non-foaming toner that have been transferred onto the recording medium. The image forming apparatus includes an image processing section that image-processes the print image information so that transfer of an image resulting from the foaming toner is selectively prohibited in correspondence to a line width or size of an image to be transferred by the non-foaming toner onto the foaming toner.
Abstract: When a user uploads a data file to be printed by a printer to a file server through a user terminal, the file server calculates its printing charge based upon the number of pages to be printed and the printing format, and makes the user terminal used for the uploading the file display the calculated charge.
Abstract: A target document in a document processing system is annotated on the basis of annotations made previously to a source document. A source document (either a scanned image of a paper document or an electronic document) is annotated by a user to identify words or phrases of interest. The annotated words are extracted for use as keywords or phrases to search in future document. When a target document is processed, the target document is searched to locate any of the keywords of interest to the user. If any of the keywords are located, electronic annotations are applied to these in the target document for display or printing out and/or registered as keywords to the project. The automatically annotated words or phrases enable the user to locate regions of interest more quickly.
Abstract: A summary of a captured document image is produced on the basis of detected handwritten annotations made to a document prior to image capture. The scanned (or otherwise captured) image is processed to detect annotations made to the document prior to scanning. The detected annotations can be used to identify features, or text, for use to summarize that document. Additionally, or alternatively, the detected annotations in one document can be used to identify features, or text, for use to summarize a different document. The summary may be displayed in expandable detail levels.
Abstract: An image formation processing method for forming an image to be raised with color toners on a raised portion of an expandable toner which is formed on a recording sheet according to an original image, comprising extracting a contour section of the image to be raised from the original image, and changing a color of the extracted contour section to enhance the image to be raised.
Abstract: A crosslinked polymer particle can be obtained by carrying out a crosslinking reaction between a non-crosslinked polymer particle containing a succinimidoxycarbonyl group and a compound having two or more amino groups.
Abstract: A printing apparatus acquires data files from an external device, the printing apparatus prints the acquired data file when the printing charge for the acquired data file has been accepted. The printing apparatus acquires the data file from a server on condition that at least part of a payment of the printing charge is accepted from a user, and starts printing the acquired data file when payment more than or equal to the charge for printing the acquired data file is accepted.
Abstract: An ink jet recording head wherein a nozzle jetting ink droplets is structured of a plurality of ink jet ports 11, and the length ln [m] of an ink jet port and pitch Pn [m] are set to satisfy the conditions ln>1.2 Vd/An and Pn>1.4 dd (where Vd is the volume of ink droplets that are jetted from one individual ink jet port [m3], dd is diameter of an ink droplet [m] and An is the area of a nozzle opening [m2]); wherein the fusion phenomena of a meniscus at the rear surface of a nozzle after ink is jetted can be suppressed; and wherein the effect of a multi-port nozzle enabling re-fill time to be reduced is utilized. Further the fusion phenomena of ink jet droplets in flight after being jet expelled from a multi-port nozzle can be suppressed enabling superior quality images to be recorded.
Abstract: A bearing containing and force applying device comprises a single piece member including an adjustable force applying spring clip having a chest portion for mounting over and against a bearing device. The chest portion has first and second edges; a first surface, and a second surface for contacting an outer or back end of the bearing member. The adjustable force applying spring clip also has bearing retaining members connected to the second surface of the chest portion for receiving and retaining the bearing member; and resilient shoulder portions connected the first and second edges and bent backwards towards the first or back surface of the chest portion.
Abstract: A method and system having real-time control of tone reproduction curves. The machine comprises: a moving photoreceptor; a means for storing a target tone reproduction curve; and, a means for updating a current tone reproduction curve LUT.
Abstract: The multicolor image forming apparatus according to the present invention comprises openings near the edge of the laser beam scanning start side, near the center, and near the edge of the laser beam scanning end side, on the photoconductor belt. The multicolor image forming apparatus measures time intervals from the horizontal synchronizing signal to the detection of the scanning start-side opening, the center opening, and the scanning end-side opening, respectively. The multicolor image forming apparatus calculates the function indicating the scanning speed at time t along the surface of the photoconductor, to correct the function indicating an image clock frequency at time t.
Abstract: In the present invention, a photosensitive layer of an optical recording medium includes a photo-responsive high-molecular compound comprising a photo-responsive group (e.g., an azobenzene derivative) which is geometrically isomerized by light radiation, and a liquid crystal linear mesogen group (e.g., a biphenyl derivative), wherein the photo-responsive group and the linear mesogen group are respectively bonded as side chains. The invention provides an optical recording medium enabling large scale recording by making the photosensitive layer thick without impairing recording characteristics. The photo-responsive high-molecular compound preferably comprises an aromatic ring on a main chain. Further, the photo-responsive high-molecular compound preferably comprises a structural unit which is capable of forming a liquid-crystalline or crystalline polymer and a structural unit which is capable of forming an amorphous polymer.
Abstract: In a pipeline process structure having a plurality of processing functions 131-1 to 131-N which are connected to each other in a pipeline mode so as to execute predetermined process operations, while an image information read-skipping unit 132 for skipping a reading operation of a portion of image information to be processed is provided with at least one of these plural processing functions 131-1 to 131-N, when the image information is processed on such a system for requiring/releasing a memory, the image information can be effectively processed and acquired.
Abstract: A high speed heat and pressure belt fuser apparatus or structure for fixing toner images including an endless belt and a pair of pressure members between which the endless belt is sandwiched for forming a fusing nip through which substrates carrying toner images pass with the toner images contacting an outer surface of the endless belt. Thus, one of the pressure rolls is supported internally of the endless belt while the other pressure roll is supported externally of the belt. The belt has at least one conformable or deformable layer which cooperates with a deformable or conformable layer on at least one of the pressure members to provide a large nip that yields high gloss images, long belt life, minimal edge wear and reliable stripping at high speeds. Effective substrate stripping is accomplished by wrapping a portion of the belt about the external roll in a post-nip area.
