Abstract: REaD electrophotographic printing using additive color toners. Toners that are non-transmissive to exposing light are developed using inhibited image-on-image printing. Then, the photoreceptor is exposed to produce a latent image for a toner that transmits the exposing light. Finally, the latent image for a toner that transmits the exposing light is developed.

Abstract: An apparatus for fabricating bichromal balls includes a means for fabricating droplets from electrically conductive hardenable liquids. The liquids have different colors. A forward end of the hardenable liquids becomes unstable and breaks up into the droplets. Each droplet includes hemispheres of different colors. An RF signal generator produces electrical pulses which increase the instability of the forward end of the hardenable liquids. A capacitance in the conductive liquids causes current to flow from the signal generator to the hardenable liquids. A diameter of the droplets is reduced to form substantially spherical balls. Each of the balls includes hemispheres of different colors. The bichromal balls are collected.

Abstract: A liquid ink printing machine, for forming an image on a recording medium moving along a path, including an arrangement for reducing media feedhead loads on media being fed in the printing machine. This is accomplished by using the printing machine's printhead carriage to contact a lever which will lower a paper tray holding the media once media being fed has reached an advance nip past the feedhead, thus reducing drag on the media being fed.
Abstract: An ink jet cartridge for use in an ink jet printer has replaceable ink supply tanks. The cartridge includes a housing with an integrally mounted printhead, at least one ink pipe connector protruding from a floor thereof, and internal passageways which interconnect the ink pipe connectors and printhead. The replaceable ink supply tanks, one for each color and each ink pipe connector, contain an ink saturated foam or needled felt member, an ink outlet port, and a filter element which covers the ink outlet port. When the ink supply tank is installed in the cartridge housing, the ink pipe connector extends through the outlet port of the tank and deforms the filter element into compressive contact with the foam or needled felt member. Whenever an ink depleted ink supply tank is replaced with a new ink supply tank, a fresh filter element is available for the cartridge, thus preventing degradation of the cartridge filters during the useful life of the cartridge.
Abstract: A cover for protecting from undesired exposure a photoconductive member assembled to the housing of a printing cartridge for use in a printing machine is provided. The housing includes an aperture periphery defining an aperture therein for communication of illumination from an illumination source with the photoconductive member. The cover includes a first portion positionable adjacent the housing, a second portion operably associated with the first portion and at least partially extendible between the illumination source and the photoconductive member for protecting a substantial portion of the photoconductive member from exposure, a third portion operably associated with the second portion, the third portion removably securable to the housing, and a fourth portion operably associated with the third portion. The fourth portion is utilized for removal of the cover. As the third portion is pulled from the housing the third portion is directed along a path spaced from the photoconductive member.
Abstract: An ink jet channel wafer for an ink jet printer has a first surface in which a plurality of anisotropically etched ink channels and an anisotropically etched ink reservoir are directly connected to one another. The ink jet channel wafer is etched using an admixture of at least one alkali metal hydroxide and at least one alcohol compound.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an image reading apparatus in which a structure is simple and in which the size of a document can be detected in a short time, wherein the levels of signals, which are outputted from photoelectric elements within a plurality of sensing regions on a light-receiving portion of a line sensor correspond to a pair of nearby regions (#1 and #2, #3 and #4, #5 and #6, and #7 and #8) which hold each edge (e.g., edges 64A, 64B, 64C in FIG. 5) of the plurality of documents of different sizes disposed on a platen glass, are compared to a threshold value, or alternatively, the change in the levels of signals which are outputted from the photoelectric elements within a plurality of sensing regions (e.g., #1, #2 and #3 in FIG. 11) continuously cross each edge of the plurality documents of different sizes is obtained in order to determine the size of the document.

The printing system includes a processor, receiving the color image data, and outputting a plurality of color image signals, each of the plurality of color image signals representing color information of one of a plurality of color planes. A plurality of graphics processors, coupled to the processor, receive the plurality of color image signals and output a plurality of bitmap image signals in response thereto. A color liquid ink printhead, coupled to the plurality of graphics processors, receive the plurality of bitmap image signals and deposit liquid ink on the recording medium in response thereto.
Abstract: When a power supply of an image forming apparatus is turned on and also a power save function is released, the image forming apparatus initialize modules with respect to each of the modules. For example, when initializations of a communication control unit and a modulating/demodulating unit are accomplished, even when initializations of other modules are not yet ended, a facsimile service is provided. Also, when initializations of an image reading control unit and an image reading unit are accomplished, a scanner service is provided. In this manner, the services provided by such modules whose initializations have been accomplished are sequentially providable irrespective of states of the other modules.

In practice, one of the plurality of layers receives a request from one of the one or more clients and the request designates an operation to be performed with respect to one of the plurality of printers. The printing system includes an application layer, communicating with the one of the plurality of layers, for developing a command expression based on the request received by the one or the plurality of layers, and a communications interface including a first connectivity module and a second connectivity module, with the first connectivity module communicating with a first one of the plurality of printers and the second connectivity module communicating with a second one of the plurality of printers.

Abstract: In an image processing device, when image data is expanded to width K corresponding to one-third of width L of a band buffer 26, the band buffer in which the width K image data is expanded is divided into square blocks each having side length K. When expansion of the image data in the square blocks into which the band buffer is divided is complete, the resultant image data is compressed for each square block. Thus, occurrence of generation can be prevented and the image data can be compressed efficiently. The locations of a final output image to which the compressed data corresponds are managed with a compressed page buffer management table, etc., so that the final output image can be restored based on the managed location information and image quality degradation can be avoided.
Abstract: An image bar printing system, which, in a preferred embodiment, utilizes a plurality of LED arrays to provide a plurality of color images. The print bars are used in conjunction with a plurality of gradient index lens arrays which optically couple and focus the LED outputs onto a photosensitive surface. In order to maintain image-to-image registration, out of spec deviations in active write length of the image bar and scan line bow are identified and compensated for by selective deformation of one or more lens arrays in a specified manner. The lens deformation serves to reorient the position of certain of the lens elements, redirecting the transmitted LED outputs so as to shorten or lengthen the active write length, or to eliminate bow in the scan line.

Abstract: The undesirable image defect of dragout of liquid ink development (LID) toned images generated from the development zone, formed by an imaging member and a metering/development member, can be prevented. Background development of the toned images is suppressed in an image enhancement zone. With the aid of an enhanced electrostatic field, created by an electrode biased at a voltage other than normal development bias in the metering zone, the toned layer can resist higher viscous forces. Image dragout, due to the viscous shear from liquid ink, can therefore be eliminated.
