  • Patent number: 5881166
Abstract: A system and method generates a histogram of a scanned image by determining a number of pixels of the image to be scanned to generate the histogram. It is then determined whether the determined number of pixels is less than or equal to a capacity of a histogram buffer. The image is scanned to generate pixels having grey values associated therewith and a portion of the generated pixels is stored in the histogram buffer if it is determined that the number of pixels exceeds the capacity of the histogram buffer, thereby generating a histogram of the image.

  • Patent number: 5880857
Abstract: A process eliminates pattern shifting artifacts in a printed image by perturbing a threshold/image signal value relationship when a multi-level grey level is binarized. The process utilizes a programmable multi-level grey signal modifying circuit for modifying the multi-level grey signal by a predetermined value according to its grey level. The modified multi-level grey signal is binarized to a binary pixel signal according to a relationship between the modified multi-level grey signal and a threshold value. The process further generates an error corresponding to the relationship and diffuses the error to neighboring pixels. The multi-level grey signal is modified with either random noise multiplied by a grey level dependent coefficient or by a predetermined value from a checkerboard or vertical line pattern. The value from the pattern is dependent upon the grey level and pixel location of the image data.

  • Patent number: 5880855
Abstract: A document processing apparatus that is adapted to the state of document data to be processed and performs document processing at low cost and efficiently. When document data comes over a communication line, a communication section receives the same to pass the received document data to a storage location selector. If the total size and the number of documents received are less than the predetermined values, the storage location selector transfers the document data to a part of the main memory. If the storage location selector cannot transfer the document data to that part, the storage location selector transfers the document data to one of auxiliary memories. The document data stored in one auxiliary memory is read by the CPU to be processed by the same and an image processor. The results of the document processing are stored in the main memory to be transferred to an output unit over an input/output interface 10 to be recorded.

  • Patent number: 5880974
Abstract: A merchandise simulator device which allows a user to operate a desired piece of merchandise on a user's terminal as if the user was using the piece actually at hand. In the merchandise simulator device, when a workstation executes merchandise simulation software received from an HTTP server, a merchandise simulation control section is activated on the workstation to thereby display the basic image of a selected piece of merchandise in a display section. If a drag operation is carried out by a mouse of an input section, then the piece of merchandise displayed on the display section is rotated on the basis of two or more pieces of image data received from the HTTP server and also, if a mouse input is given to a button or the like of the image data displayed on the display section, then the function of the piece of merchandise displayed in the display section is simulated in whatever display state the present piece is.

  • Patent number: 5880742
Abstract: An improvement to a spreadsheet application program executed in a processor-controlled machine displays a first spreadsheet image showing a plurality of cell regions each of which shows a direct, symbolic representation of a source data value of a source data item in an n-dimensional (nD) information data array with which the cell is respectively paired. In response to an image display request signal, a second spreadsheet image is displayed which shows, in each cell, a graphical display object representation of the respectively paired source data value in place of its direct representation. The source data values in the nD data array are thus graphically, or indirectly, represented in the cell regions in the second spreadsheet image, facilitating the visual observation, identification and inspection of patterns and trends in the data.

  • Patent number: 5880743
Abstract: An apparatus and method for animating editing changes on a display device is provided. The invention is designed to operate preferably with a graphical editing system that permits both handwritten and typewritten data entry. Both the primary changes made by the user and the contextual changes resulting from the primary changes are animated at a visually apparent rate in multiple steps to permit a user and other viewers of the display device to understand the effects of an editing change on surrounding objects. The number of steps in which the changes are animated depends on the number of changes which must be made and the operation performed.

  • Patent number: 5880766
Abstract: An apparatus for correcting positional deviation of the light source emitting light beams in an image recording apparatus is disclosed which corrects change of the image size (dimensions of the image) on the photosensitive member due to positional deviations of beam spots on the photosensitive member on account of physical distortions caused by external vibration, temperature change, and the like. Changes in the diameter of detective light beams are measured by photodetecting portions 5.sub.R and 5.sub.L and piezoelectric devices 6a and 6b are driven based on the results of the detection, whereby the semiconductor laser array 1 is moved so that the multiplication b/a for the image size may be kept constant.

  • Patent number: 5878196
Abstract: In a printer control system, a monitor unit monitors whether print document data or a print document consisting of a group of such print document data has been received within a given time. A schedule attribute judging unit judges whether the job processing scheduling attribute of the received print document data or print document is a before-complete attribute or an after-complete attribute. In the case of the before-complete attribute, a print document data processing unit is used to process the print document data. On the other hand, in the case of the after-complete attribute, a print document processing unit is used to process the print document. When a job is interrupted, a document addition judging unit is used to judge whether the job interrupted but received later again can be added to the last print document data or to the last print document or not.
