Abstract: An image processing system and method are described which use entropy values in processing the image. For each of a plurality of segments of an image, the segment is considered as a stream of bits and a bit difference is computed between pairs of sequential bit sequences in the stream of bits. An entropy value of the segment is computed as a function of the bit differences. The image is processing based on the computed entropy values, which may include compressing some or all of the image segments using an acceleration factor that is based on the computed entropy value for the segment. In this way, differences in entropy, which correlate with the compressibility of the image segment, can ensure an optimal compression of the segment, or in some cases, no compression.
Abstract: A reading method guidance apparatus includes a receiving unit, an acquisition unit, and a guidance unit. The receiving unit receives a document size that is a size of a document as a reading target. The acquisition unit acquires an image of at least a partial area in the document. Abstract: A toner transporting device includes a bearing, an opposing section, a flange, and an engaging section. The bearing has an inner ring supporting a shaft, rolling elements disposed on an outer periphery of the inner ring, and an outer ring disposed around the rolling elements to surround the inner ring. The opposing section is disposed facing a first side of the inner and outer rings. The flange is provided at a second edge at a second side of the outer ring, extends in a direction of the shaft, and covers at least a part of a second end surface at the second side of the inner ring. Abstract: An addition to additive manufacturing sews a number of printed substrate sheets together using industrial sewing machine technology. Portions of the final 3D object that will be solid are sewn together into bundles of the object with a needle protruding through the top of the bundle via a sewing machine with a looping mechanism connecting the thread loops under each bundle of printed substrate sheet layers. This will result in many well connected stack bundles that are then stacked in alignment to form the final stack. During heat and compression, the stitch thread may bunch together and become entangled with the cooled plastic of the final solid 3D object. Removal of the excess substrate may proceed as usual, since the sewing is applied only in the solid portions of the final object. The end result will be a part with much higher strength in the Z axis.

Abstract: A method of printer operation identifies inkjets to operate in each scanline to eject sneeze drops or, in an alternative approach, identifies the cross-process direction scanlines within a page to be printed by the printer where each inkjet ejects sneeze drops. The methods use a binary grayscale code counter that generates a sequence of binary grayscale code numbers and every other output of the sequence is bit reversed to spread the sneeze drops over the pages of the printer output so the sneeze drops are not perceptible to a human observer.

A reception unit receives a change of a printing setting for each page in a case where, in a printing setting is designated for printing data that is made up of a plurality of pages, a page on which printing processing is impossible to perform is included in the printing data.
