Abstract: A fishing reel has a frame. A first cover assembly is affixed to a first side of the frame. A second cover assembly is affixed to a second side of the frame. At least one of the first cover assembly and the second cover assembly define at least one opening for receiving a panel member. The cover assemblies define supporting structure that is preferably made of a metal. The panel member defines non-supporting structure that is preferably made up of non-metallic structure such as plastic polymer and carbon fiber. The panel member may be transparent and is preferably replaceable to allow a user to customize the appearance of the reel.

Abstract: A fish line having a red color defined by a hue value of a LCH measurement of a colorimeter of between ?11.5 and ?13.5 is shown to get more strikes than fish line of other colors, thereby providing the user with an opportunity to catch more fish. The red fish line includes a red colorant which provides increased abrasion resistance compared to fish line comprised of the same synthetic or natural materials but a different or no colorant.

Abstract: A fishing reel, such as a spincast reel or a spinning reel, has a clutch assembly mounted on a shaft adjacent to the rotating component, the clutch assembly for frictional engagement with a rotating component. The clutch assembly has a first and a second protuberance. A bite alert contact is located for engagement with the first protuberance. A calibration member is adjacent the clutch assembly for engagement with the second protuberance. The calibration member provides a selectable amount of resistance to rotation of the clutch assembly, thereby regulating an amount of rotational force required to activate the bite alert contact. The fishing reel may further include a sensitivity switch for adjusting the selectable amount of resistance provided by the calibration member, which may adjust the resistance in discrete amounts.

An on/off switch is provided for selectively closing the circuit. A “try me” switch is also provided for temporarily activating the electronics. The “try me” switch prevents manipulation of the on/off switch into the “on” position but allows for the electronic feature to be temporarily activated. After purchase, the “try me” switch may be is removed to allow the on/off switch to function without interference.

The reel seat defines a receptacle for receiving the foot portion of the reel on a top side of the reel seat. The reel seat defines at least one orifice on a lower side. A rod has a base end that is received within the first end of the reel seat. A handle portion is affixed to the second end of the reel seat. A zip tie surrounds the real seat and passes secures the foot portion of the reel to the real seat, e.g., the zip tie may pass through the orifice on the foot portion and through the orifice on the lower side of the reel seat.

Abstract: A fishing reel with an integrated barometer sensor, a temperature sensor, and a weight sensor forming a sensorized fishing reel to enhance the fishing experience of an angler is disclosed. The sensorized fishing reel includes; an exterior housing supporting a display and enclosing the barometer sensor, the temperature sensor, the weight sensor as well as a controller. The controller selectively interacts with each sensor to obtain sensory readings provided by each sensor, and delivers the obtained sensory readings to the angler via the display.

Abstract: A device for transportation and selective release of live bait organisms is disclosed. The device has a ventilated body providing a plurality of ventilation openings, a lid having a lid base adapted to interfit with the ventilated body and tapering to an opening defined opposite the base. The opening is wide enough to allow only a single bait organism to pass. The lid has a trap door sprung in a normally closed position to cover the opening. A base is adapted to interfit with the ventilated body and provide at least one tackle storage compartment.

Abstract: A device for transportation of live baitfish is disclosed. The device comprises a container having an interior portion and a plurality of strain holes such that the container holds water when sitting in an upright position but which allows water exchange with the interior portion when placed in a body of water. A strainer is disposed in the interior portion of the container and connected to at least one elevator rail. A releasable handle is attached to the at least one elevator rail and disposed substantially outside the container. The handle provides a grip for lifting and carrying the container when the handle is in a first unreleased state, and serves to elevate the strainer by lifting the at least one elevator rail when in a second released state.

Abstract: An equipment selecting system for assisting in selecting optimal fishing equipment for catching a desired type of fish that includes a correlating device for displaying a first reference and a second reference. The first reference is associated with a type of fish selected from a plurality of types of fish. Each fishing kit is optimized for fishing for one of the plurality of types of fish. The second reference of the correlating device is associated with a suggested one of the fishing kits. The fishing kits are preferably assembled to provide optimal equipment for a particular species of fish, as indicated by the correlating device.

Abstract: An improved bail assembly for a spinning reel which, in one aspect includes a bail arm with a roller hood having an outer converging end portion wherein a bail wire extends from the converging end portion in an initial substantially straight manner such that there are no bends in the bail wire in proximity to the roller hood. In another aspect, the improvement comprises a converging extension piece which extends from the bail arm, the bail wire extending from the extension piece in a substantially straight manner such that there are no bends in proximity to the extension piece. The extension piece preferably also constitutes a connector for the bail wire which is effective for reducing corrosion of the bail assembly.

Abstract: A clicker mechanism for a fishing reel is described. A typical fishing reel has a spool defining an orifice and a shaft passing through the orifice. A component having an irregular surface, such as a gear-like component with teeth or a ring defining a serrated inner surface engages the shaft. A clicker assembly may be affixed to the spool. The clicker assembly includes a clicker for engaging the clicker gear. The clicker alternately moves from a first position to a second position. The clicker assembly utilizes a magnet that provides a magnetic force to return the clicker to the first position from the second position. Two magnets may be used to exert magnetic force against one another, either with an attracting or a repelling force.
