  • Patent number: 5685270
Abstract: A diesel engine idle speed control system and method wherein a preset running characteristic map is corrected by a learning value updated on the basis of the output of a PID under predetermined conditions for each of different engine load modes, thereby determining a desired injection quantity. The map indicates a relationship between an engine speed and a fuel injection quantity for each of accelerator openings, including an accelerator opening of zero percent. A judgment is made on the present load mode of the engine, and a basic injection quantity corresponding to the present accelerator opening and engine speed is calculated from the running characteristic map. When the vehicle operating condition is in an idle mode, learning is executed so as to optimize a feedback correction quantity used for feedback control for each load mode, and a corrected basic injection quantity is calculated from the basic injection quantity and the learning value. Relearning is executed according to a predetermined condition.

  • Patent number: 5685075
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for brazing flat tubes of a laminated heat exchanger comprising laminating a plurality of flat tubes (2) which have a brazing material claded with a fin (3) therebetween, inserting both ends or at least one end of each flat tube into tube insertion ports (5) of header tanks (4), and integrally brazing the ends of the flat tubes and the tube insertion ports, wherein the tube insertion ports have a width (A) larger than that (B) of the flat tubes, the laminated heat exchanger is transversely placed to vertically position the width direction of the flat tubes when integrally brazing after assembling, and a jig (19) is used to support so as to form a gap (20) at the lower parts of the flat tubes and the tube insertion ports before effecting brazing. Thus, the flat tubes can be firmly inserted when assembling, a brazing property between the tube insertion ports and the flat tubes can be improved, and beads can be mutually brazed with reliability.

  • Patent number: 5680312
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for selecting an entry stored in a data processing system, and specifically a destination in a vehicle navigation system. The system includes a display, a scrolling control having first and second controls, and a selecting control. Using the scrolling control, the user of the system scrolls through a plurality of stored destinations on the display. Each destination is made up of a plurality of alphanumeric symbols, the destinations forming an alphabetically and numerically organized list. The scrolling is accomplished by using the first control of the scrolling control. A character position selector is used to select a character position in a first indicated destination and the second control of the scrolling control is used to jump to subsets of destinations with the next or previous character position as compared to a currently indicated destination. The selecting control is then used to enter a desired destination.

  • Patent number: 5662164
Abstract: In a laminated heat exchanger, tube elements through which heat exchanging medium does not easily flow are eliminated by partitioning one of two tank groups extending in a direction of lamination approximately at the middle to divide it into a first communicating area 22 and a second communicating area 23. The first communicating area 22 communicates with an intake port 20 though which coolant flows in. The second communicating area 23 communicates with an outlet port 21 through which the coolant flows out. The number of tube elements constituting the first communicating area 22 is greater than the number of tube elements constituting the second communicating area 23. In this 4-pass system laminated heat exchanger, inconsistency in temperature distribution is minimized to achieve an improvement in heat exchanging performance.

  • Patent number: 5663618
Abstract: A driving apparatus for a commutatorless DC motor decides a next commutation period based on a difference of a reference zero-cross time and an actual zero-cross time such that a rising or falling edge of induced voltage signals is generated at the reference zero-cross time. Rising and falling edges of the induced voltage signals represent zero-cross points of induced voltages that are generated at each phase of drive windings. The actual zero-cross time is an actual time width from a start of a current commutation period till the generation of a rising or falling edge of the induced voltage signals. The reference zero-cross time is a desirable time width from the start of the current commutation period until a rising or falling edge of the induced voltage signals should be generated.

  • Patent number: 5649592
Abstract: In order to prevent damage to the tube elements or the communicating pipe due to water collecting in a gap formed between the tube elements and the communicating pipe by defective brazing in a laminated heat exchanger, in which the water thus collected will be frozen and melted repeatedly, a structure that ensures that no water is collected in such a gap is achieved by making either one or both of the indented portions of the two formed plates, which constitute the indented portion of each tube element, not in contact with the communicating pipe.

  • Patent number: 5647323
Abstract: The movement of a control sleeve in the circumferential direction is made to interlock with the movement of a timer piston to ensure that the control sleeve has a function of pre-stroke control. In order to interlock the movements of the timer piston and the control sleeve, they are linked with first through third link members and the control sleeve is caused to rotate in the circumferential direction at a specific ratio relative to the quantity of movement of the timer piston. In a fuel injection system provided with an actuator for adjusting the fuel force feed end by moving the control sleeve in the direction of the axis and an actuator for controlling the timing with which the cam lift begins, pre-stroke control can be achieved without requiring a separate actuator, with a simple mechanical structure.

  • Patent number: 5647794
Abstract: When a fault occurs in the setting unit for setting the position of an actuator or when the control unit for controlling a stepping motor actuator goes out of order, the mode switch door cannot be set to a foot mode or the like other than a ventilation mode and a defrost mode. Therefore, when a fault occurs in the built-in contacts of the actuator for driving the mode switch door or when the control unit for controlling the stepping motor actuator for driving the mode switch door goes out of order, another mode position can be set by moving the actuator to a ventilation mode position or a defrost mode position and then reversing it with the moved position as a starting point.

  • Patent number: 5647326
Abstract: In a fuel injection pump equipped with a plunger producing preflow effect, pressurized fuel is delivered at least in the low engine speed region by driving the plunger using a region of a cam on the decreasing velocity side of its maximum velocity point. As a result, the fuel delivery rate is reduced during low-speed engine operation and increased during high-speed engine operation, providing an ideal fuel delivery rate for an indirect-injection type engine equipped with swirl chambers or auxiliary chambers.

  • Patent number: 5645126
Abstract: In a laminated heat exchanger in which a heat exchanging medium flows into a specific tank portion via a communicating passage that is connected to a surface that is at a right angle to the direction of the lamination, a reinforced portion is formed in the tank portion that faces opposite the opening portion of communicating passage (communicating pipe). The reinforced portion minimizes the likelihood of a rupture at the shoal-like bead near the communicating passage, which is provided among shoal-like beads formed in an area where the tank portions change to a U-shaped passage portion.

  • Patent number: 5645225
Abstract: A plurality of injection holes are circumferentially arranged in the peripheral wall of the hole at predetermined intervals and at axially different circumferential levels in the leading end portion of the nozzle body to introduce pressurized fuel, and the injection holes at each circumferential level are set different in diameter. On the other hand, a rotary valve has a plurality of fuel guide holes each corresponding to the injection holes at the respective circumferential levels. The fuel guide holes of the rotary valve and the injection holes of the nozzle body are arranged in such a relationship that while the fuel guide holes at one or more than one circumferential level are each made to communicate with the fuel guide holes at one or more than one corresponding circumferential level, the fuel guide holes at the other circumferential levels are not allowed to communicate with any injection holes.

  • Patent number: 5642715
Abstract: Inflow/outflow ports are provided in either one of a distribution member for distributing compressed fuel or a control sleeve which is externally fitted around the distribution member. Each of the ports includes a slit extending therefrom. At the other one of the distribution member and the control sleeve, an intake-cutoff hole that communicates sequentially with the inflow/outflow ports and a pilot port which communicates with the slits during part of the force feed period are provided. Since the fuel flows out through the slits during part of the force feed period, pilot injection can be more easily achieved prior to the main injection during low speed rotation and fuel is less likely to be diverted through the slits due to the constricting effect during high speed rotation so that only the main injection is performed.
