  • Patent number: 12100429
Abstract: A computer-implemented method is provided for cooling hard disk drives (HDDs). The method may include determining a threshold fan speed for one or more fans that provide cooling for HDDs based upon a target HDD vibration performance. The method may also include controlling the one or more fans, by a controller, to alternately run at a first fan speed for a first period and at the threshold fan speed for a second period, when the one or more fans reach the threshold fan speed. The first fan speed is higher than the threshold fan speed.

  • Patent number: 12052848
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided to facilitate the cooling of different configurations of cards within a chassis, e.g., a card riser cage. Embodiments disclose telescoping air dams that may be reconfigured to adapt to different combinations of half height and full height cards to fill vacancies in the chassis, hindering the flow of air through those vacancies, thereby redirecting the flow elsewhere and improving the cooling of the cards. By being reconfigurable, embodiments improve the ease that card cages may be reconfigured by reducing the number of parts necessary for such reconfigurations.

  • Patent number: 12026021
Abstract: An apparatus and method provide a cable chain system with automatic latching and unlatching that facilitates the hot-swapping of individual drives, and also the hot-swapping of an entire JBOD sled. Between an installed position and a first extended position, the apparatus maintains the connection of the sled to the shared rack infrastructure, which facilitates the hot-swapping of individual drives in the first extended position. With additional movement to a second extended position, the apparatus releases the sled, allowing the sled to be disconnected from the shared rack infrastructure.

  • Patent number: 12004319
Abstract: A system and method are provided for an interlock that limits the number of electronic devices that may extend from a rack system. In the system, sensors attached to the rack detect the extension of a rail from the rack. The sensors provide a controller with data from which the controller determines a number of rails that are extended from the rack. If the number of extended rails is determined by the controller to exceed a threshold number, the controller actuates a latch system that closes to lock the remaining devices within the rack.

  • Patent number: 11994447
Abstract: An apparatus and system are provided for detecting coolant leaks from connections to rack-mounted devices and managing the leak by directing liquid away from sensitive electrical components. On each device, a pan is connected to liquid couplings found on the rear of the device. A sensor tape is attached to a vertical section of the rack, e.g., on the coolant supply lines or housing. The pan collects leakage from the couplings and directs the leakage to the sensor tape, which is connected to a control unit. Upon liquid contacting the sensor tape, the control unit signals the detection of a leak. To prevent false positives due to incidental leakage, e.g., mere drops leaked upon connection to the coolant system, the pan may include a texture in the pan surface that retains a small amount of fluid.

  • Patent number: 11852186
Abstract: An apparatus provides a latch with a rotary dial and a leaf spring with teeth that extend from a frame into an engaging position. Inward axial movement of the dial causes the dial to deform the leaf spring and the teeth to extend into the engaging position. In the engaging position, the dial supports the teeth and resists forces that might otherwise cause the teeth to unlatch. In the engaging position, a catch in a track on the dial engages a pin of the frame to maintain the engaging position. From the engaging position, a rotation of the dial unseats the catch and allows the dial to move axially outward and the teeth to recede into the frame.

  • Patent number: 11828780
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for reporting capacitance of a capacitor of a power backup circuit comprising a plurality of metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). The system may also include a bleeder resistor and a voltage detection circuit. When capacitance monitoring is active, a first MOSFET may be turned off, causing the capacitor to be discharged via the bleeder resistor. After predetermined time intervals, a first drain voltage and a second drain voltage of the first MOSFET may be determined using the voltage detection circuit. The drain voltage readings at the different times may be used to determine the capacitance of the capacitor, which may be used to generate and transmit a report on capacitor performance and status.

  • Patent number: 11815428
Abstract: An apparatus and system are provided for detecting leaks in cooling tubing using sensor cabling. In the leak detection system, a leak detection cable is routed along the full length of the cooling tube. The leak detection cable and the cooling tubing are encased within a shrunken tube, which leaves such a small gap between the cooling tubing and the heat-shrunk tube that leakage is distributed within the gap about the outside of the cooling tubing by capillary action. The relative position of the detection cable above or below the cooling tubing is then irrelevant, since the capillary action may overcome the effect of gravity and distribute leakage from the bottom of the tubing to a detection cable at the top of the tubing.
