Abstract: The disclosed system and methods adjust one or more parameters affecting the purchase of one or more items and change a buyer interface in order to display the consolidated parameter to a buyer. Example embodiments include a machine-implemented method for detecting an edit to the shopping cart, conducting a complex parameter editing simulation based on data accessed from multiple databases, adjusting a parameter associated with an item in the shopping cart, and adjusting and displaying a cart total to the buyer. The system can further receive an indication to checkout the shopping cart and edit complex parameters during checkout accordingly.

Abstract: Improved access of a multidimensional database can be implemented using a space-filling curve, such as a z-order curve, and a tree structure. A state engine is configured to track the state of the dimensions of the database as the tree structure is traversed. Different states allow optimizations such as avoidance of analyzing a dimension for further nodes of the tree and removal of multiple nodes in a sub-tree.

Abstract: Technologies are shown for securing private information during shipping of an item storing shipping information at a blockchain address that includes a recipient geolocation address and generating a shipping label that includes a machine-readable pointer to the blockchain address. The label can be scanned to obtain the blockchain address and request the shipping information. In response to a request, the recipient geolocation address or a next intermediate shipper can be provided. The recipient can be notified to obtain authorization to release the recipient geolocation address or provide an alternative geolocation for delivery.

Abstract: An enhanced product customization service to automatically generate product customization parameters for customizing a product for a user in accordance with an interest of the user. Signals received from various sources are analyzed to identify an interest of the user and search queries that are generated by the user are also analyzed to identify an intention of the user to acquire a product. Then, based on having identified both the interest of the user and the intention of the user to acquire the product, product customization parameters are generated for customizing a physical characteristic of the product in accordance with the identified interest. In this way, embodiments of the enhanced product customization service may be deployed to customize a product for a user preemptively even without the user expressly indicating a specific interest in such a customized product.

Abstract: In various example embodiments, systems and methods to provide proximity recommendations are provided. In example embodiments, data representing prioritized recommendations for a user is received. The data representing the prioritized recommendations is used to generated a composite visual representation by embedding select prioritized recommendations into a visual representation. The composite visual representation presents a higher prioritized recommendation in a more spatially prominent manner than a lower prioritized recommendation. The composite visual representation is then presented to the user.

Abstract: In various example embodiments, a system and method for smart recurrent orders are presented. An inventory indicator corresponding to an inventory level of a first item may be received. An order schedule for the first item may be identified. An adjustment to the order schedule based on the inventory indicator may be determined. The adjustment to the order schedule for the first item may be facilitated.

Abstract: Systems and methods of rate limiting are disclosed herein. In some example embodiments, a rate limiter service receives a request from an online application to access an online resource, and the rate limiter service transmits an indication of the request to a back end system, and an enforcement decision corresponding to the online resource is received from the back end system, with the enforcement decision comprising an instruction to either permit or deny access to the online resource, and the receiving of the enforcement decision from the back end system being performed asynchronously with the receiving of the request and the transmitting of the indication. In some example embodiments, the enforcement decision received from the back end system is stored, the stored enforcement decision is accessed in response to the receiving of the request, and the request is responded to using the accessed enforcement decision.

Abstract: Technologies are shown for secure token refresh where a client receives a first access token from an authentication service, generates an asymmetric key pair, stores the first access token in association with a private key, and sends a public key to the authentication service. The service stores the public key in association with the first access token. The client sends a refresh token request to the service with the first access token. The service responds with a verification request with proof data. The client signs the proof data with the private key and sends the signed proof data to the service. The service verifies the signed proof data using the public key associated with the first access token, creates a second access token that is stored in association with the public key, and sends the second access token to the client, which stores it in association with the private key.

Abstract: A method and system to determine the size of a first area on a user interface that is utilized to display data items. The system receives a request for a user interface that includes a first area and a second area that are complementary in size. The system utilizes the first area utilized to display data items and the second area to display other information. The system determines a size of the first area by computing a number of data items that are to be displayed in the first area and generates the user interface to include the first area in the second area, the first area being of the determined size.

Abstract: A system receives item data corresponding to an item list from a user. The item list may include one or more items. The system communicates the item list to a community group associated with the user and the system then receives member data from one or more members of the community group, wherein the member data is associated with the one or more items on the item list.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed to receive a message from a user device. The message may include metadata that includes data related to one or more specifications of the user device. The method may also determine a sales price for the user device based on the one or more specifications of the user device and create a listing for the user device that includes at least the sales price and at least one of the one or more specifications of the user device.

Abstract: Methods and systems to adapt search results are described. The system receives search information that includes a constraint over a network. The system generates a first search result based on the search information. The system communicates a first user interface, over the network, to the client device. The first user interface is formatted based on first formatting level information. The system receives a first request, over the network, from the client device. The first request includes a description of a first interaction with the first search result. The system identifies a first formatting level based on at least one interaction that was received previous to receiving the first request. The system transitions to a second formatting level based on the first formatting level and the first interaction. The second formatting level is associated with second formatting level information.

Abstract: A machine learning (“ML”) pipeline that includes unsupervised learning, supervised learning, and Bayesian learning is utilized to train a ML classifier that can classify machine metrics as being indicative of an anomaly. A boosting process can be utilized during the unsupervised learning portion of the ML pipeline that scores clusters of training data for completeness, and further splits clusters of training data based upon the completeness scores in order to optimize the clustering of the training data. Supervised learning is then performed on the cluster-labeled training data. Bayesian learning can also be utilized to assign incident probability inferences to the clusters of training data. Once the ML classifier has been trained, the ML classifier can be utilized in a production environment to classify multi-dimensional machine metrics generated by computing devices in the production environment as being indicative of an anomaly.

The system receives a browser back button selection, associates the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier, retrieves the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier, associates the first user interface identifier to a second user interface, and displays the second user interface responsive to selection of the browser back button.

Abstract: A system comprising a computer-readable storage medium storing at least one program, and a computer-implemented method for saving and presenting a state of a communication session are presented. The communication session may be established between a client device and an application server of a content publisher, and may include the presentation of content on the client device. In some embodiments, the method may include receiving user input to save a state of the communication session, and in response, temporarily storing session data representative of the state of the communication session for a predetermined duration of the communication session. The method may further include generating and presenting an interface that includes a visual representation of the session data, and allows a user to return to the saved state of the communication session.

Abstract: In a networked data system, a discovery protocol enables clients to establish connections to one a plurality of database servers to utilize a distributed connection service. The service manages connections between application servers, i.e. clients, and databases. An initial request from the client is received by a load balancer. The load balancer responds to the client by identifying an assigned connection to one of the database servers based on load considerations. The client sends a secondary request directly to the assigned connection, bypassing the load balancer. The service establishes a persistent link on the assigned connection and assigns a time-to-live (TTL), during which the service connects data requests to the databases. Upon expiration of the TTL, the service completes a next data request received, then notifies the client that the connection is no longer valid, thereby requiring a new connection through the load balancer and rebalancing system traffic.

Abstract: Methods and Systems to browse data items are described. The system receives selections, over the network at a computer based system, from a client machine and uses the selections to identify a level of interest of a first user for a first browsing set. The first browsing set includes a first browsing concept. The system receives a query from, over the network at a computer based system including a keyword. The system automatically selects the first browsing set based on the query and the elevated level of interest of the first user for the first browsing set. The system generates a first user interface including the browsing concept. Finally, the system communicates the first user interface including the browsing concept to the client machine.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for creating and utilizing search indexes with different properties to provide efficient and flexible means for retrieving and ranking high-dimensional content. A first index and a second index are generated with a different sets of properties, which may include a permutation prefix length and a vector quantization scheme, and are each associated with a computational workload. Further, at least one index structure may be created with a posting list associated with a permutation prefix and a set of references, rather than only a permutation prefix, to balance out posting lists of variable lengths within the index. Another embodiment of the disclosure provides for expansion of search results at search time, rather than during indexing, by retrieving posting lists associated with shorter permutation prefix after an initial list is determined to have insufficient recall.

Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling an audio device include a system provider device that retrieves, through a network, audio device information for at least one audio device. The system provider device also receives an indication of a triggered alert from at least one of a plurality of devices. In various embodiments, the system provider device determines an alert type corresponding to the received indication of the triggered alert. In addition, the system provider device modifies an audio setting of the at least one audio device based on the determined alert type. In some examples, the system provider device further modifies the audio setting of the at least one audio device to return the modified audio setting of the at least one audio device to a pre-modified setting.

Abstract: The disclosed technologies include receiving a request from a second computing device to verify ownership of a blockchain address. A challenge content is generated and sent to the requestor. A signature is received comprising a hash of the challenge content generated using a private key. A public key corresponding to the private key is obtained, and the signature is validated using the public key. In response to validating the signature, a characteristic is associated with a user associated with the blockchain address.

Abstract: A machine may be configured to perform image evaluation of images depicting items for sale and to provide recommendations for improving the images depicting the items to increase the sales of the items depicted in the images. For example, the machine accesses a result of a user behavior analysis. The machine receives an image of an item from a user device. The machine performs an image evaluation of the received image based on an analysis of the received image and the result of the user behavior analysis. The performing of the image evaluation may include determining a likelihood of a user engaging in a desired user behavior in relation to the received image. Then, the machine generates, based on the evaluation of the received image, an output that references the received image and indicates the likelihood of a user engaging in the desired behavior.

Abstract: A system may receive information representing a first item and an item price of the first item from a first user device operated by a buyer. The first item may be available for sale by a merchant of a brick-and-mortar store. A plurality of sellers may be identified, the plurality of sellers may list a second item as being available for sale at the calculated reduced item price in an item listing for the second item. Moreover, the second item may be similar to the first item. A reduced item price may be calculated based on the item price of the first item received from the user device, the reduced item price representing a price lower than the item price of the first item. The item listing for the second item available for sale may be presented to the first user device operated by the buyer.

Abstract: A system and method for mirroring traffic data is described. A traffic proxy samples traffic data between a client device and a first web server. The traffic data comprises requests from the client device and corresponding responses from the first web server. The sampled traffic data is encoded and relayed to a second web server. The second web server comprises an updated version of a web service that is operating at the first web server. Responses from the first web server are compared with responses from the second web server based on the requests in the encoded sampled traffic data. The differences between the responses from the first web server and the second web server is stored.

Abstract: A method and system receives at a server a search request and processes the search request to determine a context of the search request, then determines, based on the context, a network route to an application server having the closest geographic proximity, with respect to the server, to the most relevant database associated with the context.

Abstract: Described are computing systems and methods configured to detect a small, but meaningful, anomaly within one or more metrics associated with a platform. The system displays visuals of the metrics so that a user monitoring the platform can effectively notice a problem associated with the anomaly and take appropriate action to remediate the problem. An operational visual includes a radar-based visual with a heatmap arranging metrics, and a node representing a state of the metrics. Moreover, the system uses an ensemble of unsupervised machine learning algorithms for multi-dimensional clustering of hundreds of thousands of monitored metrics. Via the visuals and the implementation of the machine learning algorithms, the described techniques provide an improved way of representing and simulating many metrics being monitored for a platform. Moreover, the techniques are configured to expose actionable and useful information associated with the platform in a manner that can be effectively interpreted.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer storage media are provided for providing a concurrent browsing session are provided. The user interface and recommendation engines may provide recommendations that are based on the user attributes of a group of users in a concurrent browsing interface, where participating users may interact with the user interface and view a real-time live feeds of other participating user's browsing screens and activity. The user attributes associated with the participating users may be received to generate recommendations. Based on all of the user attributes, recommendations for the group of participating users are generated. The participating users may also provide annotations or scores with respect to the items being browsed by other users. All participating users may view the annotations and scores submitted by users. As user input is received and processed, recommendations are generated and the concurrent browsing user interface is updated with recommendations, annotations, and scores.

Abstract: Different action user-interface components in a comparison view are described. Initially, a selection is received to display a comparison view via a user interface of a listing platform. Multiple listings of the listing platform are selected for inclusion in the comparison view. A comparison view system determines which action of a plurality of actions, used by the listing platform, to associate with each of the listings. A display device displays the multiple listings concurrently in a comparison view via a user interface of the listing platform and also displays an action user-interface component (e.g., a button) in each of the plurality of listings. The action user-interface component is selectable to initiate the action associated with the respective listing. In accordance with the described techniques, the action user-interface component displayed in at least two of the multiple listings is selectable to initiate different actions in relation to the respective listing.

A user commentary is received from the second device, the user commentary generated by the second user and associated with the program content or product-related metadata.

Abstract: Systems and methods for multi-directional visual browsing on an electronic device are described. In example embodiments, a primary result and a peripheral result are determined. A display layout based on attributes associated with the primary result and the peripheral result is generated. The display layout is then formatted into instructions, which will cause a device to render the display layout. The instructions are transmitted to the client device.

Abstract: A method of enhancing a network-based publication system with curator lists is disclosed. Information pertaining to an item is received from a submitter of a listing of the item on a network-based publication system. Metadata pertaining to the information about the item is received from a curator of the information pertaining to the item. Abstract: A computer-implemented method of graphical user interface element adjustment may include presenting a graphical user interface element that includes an adjustable element that is configured to be moved to adjust a selection of a value between a first end value and a second end value. In response to a movement of the adjustable element to adjust the selection of the value, the computer-implemented method further include obtaining a time for the movement of the adjustable element and selecting the first end value to adjust based on the time. The computer-implemented method may further include determining an updated end value based on the first end value and the time and presenting the updated end value in the graphical user interface element in place of the first end value.

Abstract: Disclosed is a tamper proof tag and accompanying method for verifying that a watch is authentic and has not been tampered with. The tamper proof tag, when affixed to the watch, ensures that the watch is authentic and prevents a user from tampering with the watch. The tamper proof tag also allows the watch to be worn while the tamper proof tag is affixed to watch and is minimally obstructive to the aesthetics of the watch. This provides a purchasing user with confidence that the watch is authentic, while also allowing the user to try on the watch without having to remove the tamper proof tag. The tamper proof tag also protects the seller from a user that may attempt to tamper with the watch after purchase. For example, the seller may condition returns for a sold watch on the tamper proof tag remaining affixed to the watch.

Abstract: In an example embodiment, an item listing process is run in an item listing application. Upon reaching a specified point in the item listing process, a camera application on the user device is triggered (or the camera directly accessed by the item listing application) to enable a user to capture images using the camera, wherein the triggering includes providing an overlay informing the user as to an angle at which to capture images from the camera.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for providing automatic adjustment to commission fees on a network-based marketplace. Consistent with some embodiments, a purchase offer for an item for sale is received via a user interface of a client device, the purchase offer including an offer price. Upon determining that the offer price is below a listed price, a commission fee reduction value is computed based on a difference between the listed price and the offer price. A reduced commission fee is determined based on the commission fee reduction value and a standard commission fee. Upon determining that the reduced commission fee satisfies a condition defined by a set of rules, a transaction for the sale of the item is automatically completed based on the reduced commission fee, the completing of the transaction comprising reducing the listed price by the commission fee reduction value.

Abstract: An item query can be received on a website that manages a diverse set of items. If the query is associated with a custom taxonomy, the custom taxonomy for the item (or item class) is used to create a user interface with navigational elements generated from the custom taxonomy. The custom taxonomy can be generated from a third-party site that is associated with the item (e.g., a manufacturer). The generated user interface allows users to more readily navigate items from the item class.

Abstract: Real time item listing modification is described. A listing modification system receives, via a real time communication protocol from a client device, user interaction data that describes an item listing of a network-based commerce system currently being accessed at the client device. The user interaction data further describes an identity of a user of the client device and a manner in which the user of the client device interacts with the item listing. A modification user interface is generated for output at a different computing device and configured to present the user interaction data together with controls that are selectable to cause modification of the item listing output to the client device. The modified item listing is selectively output to only the client device, such that other computing devices simultaneously accessing the item listing are not updated to display the modified item listing.

Abstract: Techniques for optimizing power and computational density of data centers are described. According to various embodiments, a benchmark test is performed by a computer data center system. Thereafter, transaction information and power consumption information associated with the performance of the benchmark test are accessed. An efficiency metric value is then generated based on the transaction information and the power consumption information. In some implementations, the efficiency metric value indicates a number of transactions executed via the computer data center system during a specific time period per unit of power consumed in executing the transactions during the specific time period. The generated efficiency metric value is then compared to a target threshold value. Thereafter, a performance summary report indicating the generated efficiency metric value, and indicating a result of the comparison of the generated efficiency metric value to the target value, is generated.

Abstract: In various example embodiments, a system and method to provide status indictors on an image galley is disclosed. At least one item to be displayed in an image gallery on a client device is identified. Once identified, status information for the item is obtained. Subsequently, gallery rendering and display instructions are generated and transmitted to the client device. The rendering and display instructions include the status information and enables generation of status indicators from the status information for display over the image gallery at the client device. The rendering and display instructions may also include instructions for displaying the image gallery. The status information at the client device may be updated as status information changes.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media for an improved database management system that provides database transactions on a non-transactional database. The database management system executes garbage collection on data stored in a database to remove data values written to the database as part of uncommitted transactions. Each uncommitted transaction is associated with a respective transaction identifier that is not included in a list of committed transaction identifiers. The list of committed transaction identifiers lists, in sequential order, transaction identifiers for committed transaction. After removing each data value written to the database as part of an uncommitted transaction, the database management system modifies the list of committed transaction identifiers to include the transaction identifier for the uncommitted transaction.

Abstract: Colored three-dimensional digital model generation techniques and systems are described. In one example, scanning techniques are employed by a scanning system that scans a physical object while disposed within packaging to form a three-dimension digital model. A model coloring system is employed to color the three-dimensional digital model. A two-dimensional digital image is employed that captures the same or similar physical object. In one example, features of the model are matched to the image. This is then used to align a viewing perspective with respect to the model with a viewing perspective of the object within the digital image, e.g., to find which “view” of the model corresponds with the image. The color is then applied from the digital image to the model, e.g., from pixels of the image to corresponding points in the model.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for adding new features to a network service. An example method includes accessing an image from a user device to determine a salient object count of a plurality of objects in the image. A salient object count of the plurality of objects in the image is determined. An indicator of the salient object count of the plurality of objects in the image is caused to be displayed on the user device.

Abstract: In various example embodiments, a system and method to provide services associated with an image is disclosed. The method includes receiving image data of an item of interest from a client device. The image data is used to identify a similar item from an image catalog based on the image data of the item. Attribute information associated with the similar item is retrieved and used to pre-populate a template. The pre-populated template is sent to the client device, and modified data from the client device is received in response, with the modified data resulting in a final template. A listing based on the final template is generated.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for providing personalized coordinated shopping among multiple participants in a network marketplace. Social group interactions are extended to shopping, to enhance the scope and efficiency of commerce. A shopping group comprising selected members of a social group includes an authorized purchaser and a number of shoppers who are not authorized to make purchases. A non-authorized purchaser selects desired items and sends a purchase approval request to the authorized purchaser, including a personalized video message describing and supporting the request. The personalized video message is sent to the authorized purchaser by communication means selected according to determined current availability, including via review of a social calendar. The authorized purchaser may approve, decline, or request further information from the requester, upon reviewing the purchase request.

Abstract: Methods and systems for protecting seller privacy during an ecommerce transaction are disclosed. In one aspect, a method includes, receiving, via an online listing configuration interface for a first session, one or more candidate pick up times and specific pick up locations for an item, determining a generalized version of the one or more specific pick up locations, displaying, via a second session, an online listing for the item, displaying, via the second session, the one or more candidate pick up times and the generalized versions of the one or more specific pick up locations, receiving, via the second session, a selection of one of the candidate pick up times and one of the generalized versions of one of the specific pick up locations, in response to receiving payment for the item, displaying a specific pick up location corresponding to the selected one generalized version.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for adaptive search refinement is provided. The method may include obtaining an indication of user engagement with an online marketplace and in response to obtaining the indication, providing visually guided search refinement to construct a search query for searching the online marketplace. Providing the visually guided search refinement may include providing search refinement options, obtaining an indication of the approval or disapproval of one or more of the search refinement options, and repeating providing the search refinement options and receiving the indication. For each iteration of providing the plurality of search refinement options, at least some of the search refinement options may be different and determined based on previously received indications of both approval and disapproval. The method for adaptive search refinement may further include providing search results based on the search query.
