Publication number: 20100314857Abstract: An airbag arrangement for a motor vehicle includes, but is not limited to an airbag module which includes, but is not limited to an airbag and a gas generator for inflating the airbag. The airbag module is located inside a firing channel housing which allows target-oriented unfolding of the airbag. The firing channel housing is closed on the passenger side by a cover which is connected to the firing channel housing by means of a predetermined rupture line. The airbag and/or a flexible protective sleeve at least partially surrounding the airbag is connected to the firing channel housing in such a manner that the airbag or the protective sleeve contacts the firing channel housing. A fixed housing surrounding the airbag and the gas generator is thus saved, with the result that the weight of the airbag arrangement is reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2007Publication date: December 16, 2010Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS, INC.Inventor: Ullrich Rick

Patent number: 7845921Abstract: The invention is to reduce flutter and wear and improve the serviceability and wear life of tip seals for roots blower and screw type compressor superchargers where used for improved supercharger output and efficiency. As the seals travel over the outlet opening, the seals move outward in their slots, leading to flutter which may shorten their useful lives. As each seal reaches the center of the outlet opening, it is forced back into its groove by engaging a valley of the mating rotor with the likelihood of increased wear. The invention provides longitudinally spaced support bars extending laterally across the opening in the directions of rotation of the rotors. The support bars have inner surfaces machined with the associated rotor cavity bores and thus smoothly support the seals as they ride over the support surfaces. The support reduces the flexing of the seals and the resultant wear.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2008Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventor: Gregory P. Preferably, the liquid distribution media is in direct contact and fluid communication with a fluid distribution layer disposed between the membrane electrode assembly (MEA) and the liquid distribution media, so that liquids are drawn from the MEA through the fluid distribution layer to and through the liquid distribution media. The liquid distribution media transports liquids away from the MEA in the fuel cell. Methods of fabricating and operating fuel cells and electroconductive elements according to the present invention are also contemplated.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2004Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventors: Wenbin Gu, Gerald W Fly, Mark F Mathias

Patent number: 7848834Abstract: A computer system used for carrying out engineering tasks as a part of an engineering project. The system includes a plurality of client computers and one or more server computers accessible by the client computers via a communications network. Distributed across these computers is a multi-tiered software system that includes system programs, application programs, and database programs. The system programs include a system objects module, a job manager module, an event manager module, and a workbook module. The system objects module provides security and authentication services. The application programs carry out at least some of the engineering tasks. The job manager module manages use of the application programs. The event manager module receives and distributes notifications between at least some of the modules. The workbook module provides a user of the application programs with engineering information related to one or more of the engineering tasks.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2003Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventors: Thomas C. Patent number: 7849224Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for transmitting data from remote server device to a computer module in a vehicle. A request for data is transmitted from the computer module over an in-vehicle network to an in-vehicle communications gateway module. The request for data from the computer module is destined for a remote server device. A request for a software component is transmitted from a standard port of the in-vehicle communications gateway module to the remote server device. The software component comprises a non-standard transfer protocol module. The in-vehicle communications gateway module loads the non-standard transfer protocol module, and the remote server device transmits the requested data to the in-vehicle communications gateway module according to the non-standard transfer protocol. The in-vehicle communications gateway module then transmits the requested data (provided from the remote server device) to the computer module over the in-vehicle network.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2007Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventors: Ansaf I. Patent number: 7845699Abstract: A motor vehicle roof is provided that includes, but is not limited to a base roof and a roof segment. The roof segment is adjustable relative to the base roof. In a closed state, the roof segment fits tightly with the base roof. When opened, the roof segment is arranged to provide a space between itself and the base roof. A spoiler is provided that is connected to and adjustable relative to the base roof and kinematically connected to the roof segment in such a way that, with movement of the spoiler, the roof segment can be opened and closed. Additional storage space for the placement of baggage is formed when the roof is in an opened state.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2008Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventor: Frank Leopold

Patent number: 7845324Abstract: A locking mechanism for a plural rocker arm valve train assembly is provided. The locking mechanism is adapted for use with a camshaft having a plurality of different cam lobes having a plurality of different profiles, which result in variable valve displacement and duration. A plurality of rocker arms are located on a pivot shaft which runs parallel to the camshaft, each rocker arm having structures configured to be acted upon by respective lobes of the camshaft. An active rocker arm has structure configured to act upon an engine valve or valves. A movable locking element is fully enclosed by the rocker arms and is capable of selectively moving along the pivot shaft to allow the active rocker arm to selectively engage one or more of the other rocker arms for common pivoting, resulting in varied displacement of the engine valve or valves.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2008Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventors: Burak A. Patent number: 7848707Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for suppressing radio interference from a noise source having an operating frequency. One system includes memory for storing a threshold signal strength, a re-configurable filter for selectively filtering signals of a harmonic of the operating frequency, and a controller. The controller is configured to compare a signal strength of a received signal to the threshold signal strength and turn ON the re-configurable filter if the signal strength of the received signal is less than or equal to the threshold signal strength. A method includes determining a noise signature for the motor vehicle and associating a signal strength threshold with the noise signature. The method further includes comparing a signal strength of a tuned radio station to the signal strength threshold and turning ON the filter if the signal strength is less than or equal to the signal strength threshold.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2009Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventor: Vipul M.
