Patent number: 11270194Abstract: Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are a distributed computing model in which computation is accomplished with many simple processing units, called neurons, with data embodied by the connections between neurons, called synapses and by the strength of these connections, the synaptic weights. An attractive implementation of ANNs uses the conductance of non-volatile memory (NVM) elements to record the synaptic weight, with the important multiply—accumulate step performed in place, at the data. In this application, the non-idealities in the response of the NVM such as nonlinearity, saturation, stochasticity and asymmetry in response to programming pulses lead to reduced network performance compared to an ideal network implementation. A method is shown that improves performance by distributing the synaptic weight across multiple conductances of varying significance, implementing carry operations between less-significant signed analog conductance-pairs to more-significant analog conductance-pairs.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2017Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventor: Geoffrey W Burr

Moreover, the computer receives a committed demand and demand weight pattern from an upstream node and aggregates the committed demand and demand weight patterns with its own before propagating the aggregated committed demand and demand weight patterns to an adjacent downstream node. The computer further allocates a remaining downstream supply to the uncommitted demand based on weight and detects pending slot position conflicts. Based on detecting a pending slot position conflict, the computer configures a pattern shift and commits the available downstream supply as upstream committed demand.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2017Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Keeranoor G. Patent number: 11269929Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention, methods, systems and computer readable media are provided, in a cognitive data processing system, for implementing a predictive analytics system that utilizes entity and non-entity information. A collection of content is processed to extract defined entities pertaining to one or more domains. Semantic relationships are determined between objects within the collection of content, wherein the objects include undefined entities. The defined entities and objects are resolved based on entity definitions and the semantic relationships to determine defined entities and undefined entities for a resulting data set. The resulting data set is processed to identify one or more relationships between a defined entity and an undefined entity.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2018Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: William S. Patent number: 11271958Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe techniques for detecting anomalous data in an encrypted data set. An example method generally includes receiving a data set of encrypted data points. A tree data structure having a number of levels is generated for the data set. Each level of the tree data structure generally corresponds to a feature of the encrypted plurality of features, and each node in the tree data structure at a given level represents a probability distribution of a likelihood that each data point is less than or greater than a split value determined for a given feature. An encrypted data point is received for analysis, and anomaly score is calculated based on a probability identified for each of the plurality of encrypted features. Based on determining that the calculated anomaly score exceeds a threshold value, the encrypted data point is identified as potentially anomalous.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2019Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Kanthi Sarpatwar, Venkata Sitaramagiridharganesh Ganapavarapu, Saket Sathe, Roman Vaculin

Patent number: 11269923Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide techniques to vary on and vary off databases simultaneously across a pair of nodes in a mirroring environment. A dual vary off operation is initiated at a first node of the pair of nodes, the dual vary off operation to be performed on copies of a database respectively stored on the pair of nodes, the operation to be performed in tandem with the second node. At the first node the copy of the database stored on the first node is informed of the dual vary off operation, and an operating system of the first node is also informed of the dual vary off operation. Upon receipt at the first node of an indication from the second node that it has completed its vary off operation, the first node completes the dual vary off operation. An analogous technique is performed for a dual vary on operation.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2019Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Scott D. Patent number: 11270076Abstract: A method and system are provided for adaptive evaluation of meta-relationships in semantic graphs. The method includes providing a semantic graph based on a knowledge base in which concepts in the form of graph nodes are linked by semantic relationships in the form of graph edges. Metadata are encoded in the edges and nodes of the semantic graph, of weightings for measuring a meta-relationship, wherein the meta-relationship applies to the concepts of the semantic graph and is independent of the semantic relationship defined by the edges of the semantic graph. A graph activation is carried out for an input context relating to one or more concepts of the semantic graph, wherein the weightings are applied to a spreading activation signal through the semantic graph to produce a measure of the meta-relationship for a sub-set of concepts of the semantic graph.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2017Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Seamus R.
