  • Patent number: 4594660
Abstract: A collector for the results of a pipelined central processing unit of a digital data processing system. The processor has a plurality of execution units, with each execution unit executing a different set of instructions of the instruction repertoire of the processor. The execution units execute instructions issued to them in order of issuance by the pipeline and in parallel. As instructions are issued to the execution units, the operation code identifying each instruction is also issued in program order to an instruction execution queue of the collector. The results of the execution of each instruction by an execution unit are stored in a result stack associated with each execution unit. Collector control causes the results of the execution of instructions to program visible registers to be stored in a master safe store register in program order which is determined by the order of instructions stored in the instruction execution stack on a first-in, first-out basis.

  • Patent number: 4589463
Abstract: An expandable volume lavatory is enclosed by a three-panel two-position hinged door. When the lavatory is unoccupied, two adjacent panels of the door may be positioned to fit flush with the surrounding wall or enclosure. When occupied, repositioning of the third panel of the door reconfigures the door to increase available lavatory space. The expandable volume lavatory has particular utility in areas where space is at a premium, particularly on board a vehicle such as an aicraft.

  • Patent number: 4560352
Abstract: A one-hand operated dispenser for metering dental compositions comprises a casing for accommodating the dental composition between a forward dispensing opening and a plunger which is slidable within the casing. The plunger is advanced by means of a threaded spindle which engages in a nut mounted at the casing rear end so as to be secured against rotation and axial displacement. The casing rear end is rotatably supported within a sleeve which in turn is detachably inserted in a handle. The sleeve is formed with an axially extending slot through which a finger is visible which is disposed at the rear end of the spindle. When the handle is gripped, the casing may be rotated between the thumb and index finger such that the spindle advances the plunger thereby urging the dental composition out of the dispensing opening. During the forward movement of the spindle the finger travels forwardly in the axially extending slot and indicates the level of the dental composition.

  • Patent number: 4486659
Abstract: An emission-electron microscope comprises an evacuated chamber with a superconducting magnet at one end generating a region of very high field strength. In this region a specimen is mounted and the surface of the specimen is irradiated with photons, typically x-ray or hard ultra-violet, from a source. As a result the specimen emits photo-electrons. The magnetic field is axially symmetrical along the length of the chamber and emitted electrons spiral about the lines of force traveling down the chamber into a region of lower magnetic field controlled by electro-magnet coils. Transverse kinetic energy of the electrons is converted into energy along the lines of force of the magnetic field and the divergence of the magnetic field lines causes electrons to produce on a detector an expanded electron image indicative of the distribution of electron flux across the surface region of the specimen.

  • Patent number: 4467349
Abstract: An apparatus to allow a prospective customer of articles of clothing to try on one or more articles of clothing without actually putting the articles of clothing on his or her person. This is accomplished by means of an electronically produced full figure image which is composed of the customer's head and a model's body, the model's body attired in articles of clothing to be presented. The composite image is viewed by the customer on a television screen and this gives the effect of the customer being attired in the articles of clothing presented.

  • Patent number: 4461003
Abstract: In a microcomputer system arranged to operate with electrical power from a battery installed on a vehicle, the voltage of the power is detected to see whether it is below a predetermined value or not. When the voltage is below the predetermined value, a voltage detector produces an output signal which will be fed to a switching circuit formed by a D-type flip-flop. The D-type flip-flop is also responsive to a read instruction signal applied from the central processing unit of the microcomputer to a nonvolatile random access memory (RAM) thereof which is supplied with power from the battery all the time. With this arrangement, when voltage drop or sag is detected, the RAM is put in stand-by condition in which reading and writing operations are inhibited. In this stand-by condition of the RAM a central processing unit (CPU) of the microcomputer system is capable of operating as long as the power voltage is above the minimum operating voltage of the CPU.

  • Patent number: 4371816
Abstract: A control circuit for an ultrasonic dental scaler, comprising a transducer driven by a frequency-controlled oscillator, is disclosed. The control circuit is operable for continuously regulating the oscillator frequency at substantially the same value as the resonant frequency of the transducer with a dental tool attached to it and for controlling the mechanical power output of the transducer. The transducer can be drivingly connected to a work tool for transmitting mechanical energy thereto. The regulation of the oscillator frequency is accomplished by simultaneously applied control signals derived from the current passing through the transducer and from the voltage across the transducer, to compensate for supply voltage variations. Moreover, the mechanical power output of the transducer is controlled such that it is reduced whenever the contact pressure of the work tool exceeds a predetermined maximum value.
