  • Patent number: 5397925
Abstract: An anti-theft device that is adapted to be connected adjacent to or on a battery of a motor vehicle and including a power switch for disconnecting the battery from its standard battery cable when current flowing through the cable exceeds a preselected substantial amount of current associated with an attempt to start the vehicle. A lockout circuit is actuated by a remote transmitter for generating an external command signal to override the operation of the power switch. This device can be attached directly to a battery without external wiring and still provide the passive or self-arming anti-theft device.

  • Patent number: 5397923
Abstract: A device for providing remote control current signals to wave energy transmitters in a vehicle is provided. The vehicle has a power source, a manually operated electrical switch, and at least one wave energy transmitter. The device comprises an electrical network including a first timing R--C circuit, a second timing R--C circuit, a counter, and a transmission actuator that has a plurality of transmission output lines. The counter counts the number of times the electrical switch is actuated during the timing period. The transmission actuator provides an output current to one of the output lines for a duration controlled by the second timing R--C circuit. Selection of the output line for receiving the output current is determined by the accumulated count during the first timing period.

  • Patent number: 5396396
Abstract: An electronic apparatus which is placed in an operation wait state by fully closing a cover having an electrical component, and a method for grounding the electronic apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a cover side contact element electrically connected to the electrical component, and a body side contact element electrically connected to a grounding member of the apparatus. Both contact elements are brought into contact with each other so as to electrically connect the electrical component with the grounding member of the apparatus when the cover is fully closed. Thus, grounding of the electrical component can be insured without using a conductive wire for connecting the electrical component with the grounding member of the apparatus. Furthermore, a misfunction of the electrical component caused by an electrostatic charge is prevented while reducing a troublesome assembly work of the apparatus and the number of components.

  • Patent number: 5393945
Abstract: A sliding type adjustment mechanism for changing settings of a diaphragm type pressure switch adjusted by moving an external lever to move a plunger for changing the preload on the diaphragm. An external metal mounting bracket has a pair of spaced parallel slots which serve as ways. A plastic slider with a cam surface engaging the lever has a pair of lugs, each of which engages one of the slots for guiding the slider on the bracket. The slider has an integrally formed spring tab providing friction against the bracket to hold the slider in a selected position. A recess in the bracket relieves the tab friction at the limit of the slider travel to allow the lever to bias a steep-ramp portion of the cam surface to move the slider to an initial position.

  • Patent number: 5391927
Abstract: If a rectifier having Walk-in characteristics is directly connected to a dc-dc converter, an output current of the rectifier violently fluctuates because of the Walk-in characteristics of the rectifier. The Walk-in characteristics have been improved by connecting an apparatus in parallel with the rectifier. The apparatus includes a storage battery and a switch. During the Walk-in period, the switch is closed and the storage battery supplements the capacity of the rectifier. • Patent number: 5392187
Abstract: An integrated circuit power device includes many cell blocks which are electrically connected in parallel, with each of the cell blocks including at least one cell such as a MOSFET, electrically connected in parallel. A transient responsive current limiting means, such as a resistor/capacitor circuit, is electrically connected to each cell block, so that the leakage current into defective cell blocks is maintained below a predetermined level without limiting the operating speed of the device. An operable integrated circuit power device is thereby obtained, notwithstanding a defective cell block. The circuit resistors are preferably formed using the same mask and material as the gate. The circuit capacitors and common gate electrode are preferably formed using the same mask and material as the source electrode. The use of common materials eliminates the need for extra fabrication steps.

  • Patent number: 5392184
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for relieving a capacitor of a controlled series compensator as a function of the load on its arrester when high-current line faults occur. The current flowing through the arrester is used to determine its absorbed energy, from which a temperature gradient is then determined as an indicator of a sudden load on the arrester and compared with a limit value. This comparison value is processed, as a function of the determined actual arrester temperature and the measured line current, to yield a control signal. The power converter valve of the controlled series compensator is triggered in response to this control signal in such a way that its equivalent impedance is switched from capacitative to inductive. The number of disconnections required as a result of high-current line faults is thereby considerably reduced, thus greatly increasing availability of the system.

  • Patent number: 5391926
Abstract: A vertical-axis, high-wind turbine for use with an electrical generator for producing power by converting the energy of wind currents into mechanical, rotational energy, which is then used to operate the electrical generator. Fixed, stationary stators, while providing significant structural integrity, direct currents having horizontal components into a rotor assembly, where the rotors of this assembly are responsive to the currents by imparting rotation upon a central vertical shaft. Both stators and rotors are designed with functional curved blades for greater efficiency in operation. In fact, the stators are designed with a double-curve which in many ways, discussed herein, perform at levels higher than either straight, or single-curved stators. The present turbine is not equipped with any braking system, or feathering system to withstand the high winds; instead, it is capable of actual operation and energy conversion of these high energy-potential winds.

  • Patent number: 5391932
Abstract: A transistorized source power coupler for coupling a power source to a pair of transmission lines. DC power from the power source is conducted by the transistorized source power coupler to the transmission lines. Meanwhile, AC signals on the transmission lines are isolated from the power source by the source power coupler. Consequently, the same pair of transmission lines can be used to supply power to cells of a communications system while also conducting data signals between those cells with minimal effect to the power source.
