  • Patent number: 5687046
Abstract: A vertical recording head structure combines a tri-pad shaped slider body with a uniquely shaped thin-film recording element disposed along a trailing edge of the slider body. The recording element, or transducer, includes a narrow probe tip for writing data to a rotating magnetic disk. The recording element also includes a wide permalloy area to distribute the magnetic field returning from the disk. The wide area spreads the magnetic field lines such that the returning flux is kept from unintentional writing or reading information. The size and orientation of the air-bearing surfaces on the tri-pad slider body causes the slider to assume a flying attitude wherein the leading edge is lifted above the rotating magnetic disk, and the trailing edge is in substantial contact with the disk, during data transfer operations.

  • Patent number: 5663588
Abstract: A semiconductor device of SOI structure formed by the mesa isolation method, which can sufficiently reduce the wiring capacitance even if the width of the isolation trench is large. An SOI layer which constitutes an element region is formed by forming a buried oxide film in a silicon substrate, forming an isolation trench in the buried oxide film and burying an isolating material in the isolation trench. By the formation of the SOI layer with the isolating material, a dummy SOI layer is formed in a field part other than the element region. Then, by the formation of a MOSFET gate wiring on the dummy SOI layer, the wiring capacitance is reduced. Furthermore, the dummy SOI layer is completely depleted when the MOSFET threshold value is applied to the gate wiring.

  • Patent number: 5652447
Abstract: A flash EEPROM having reduced column leakage current suitably includes cells with more uniform erase times arranged in an array. An intermediate n+ implant immediately following the DDI implant step suitably provides an enhanced doping profile in the tunneling region, which increases the rate at which F-N tunneling occurs to erase the cells, and which increases the uniformity of F-N tunneling rates among memory cells within the array. A thermal cycle drives the intermediate n+ implant deeper into the tunneling region. Alternatively, an n+ implant may be performed at a relatively large angle with respect to the semiconductor substrate, which improves the doping concentration in the tunneling region of the source.

  • Patent number: 5652687
Abstract: A thin film magnetic write head is provided with a notch structure located on top of one of two pole layers. The notch structure is a generally U-shaped thin film layer which forms a trench inside the U for the containment of one or more pole tip layers in the pole tip region of the head. The notch structure has front surfaces at the tips of the legs of the U which lie in a plane that forms a part of the air bearing surface. The thickness of the notch layer is substantially equal to the thickness or thicknesses of the one or more pole tip layers located in the trench. A method of manufacturing the write head includes forming a very thin photoresist layer for defining the notch structure. The notch structure is well-defined which in turn allows the one or more pole tip layers to be well-defined with a very narrow trackwidth in the trench.

  • Patent number: 5640027
Abstract: A static random access memory (SRAM) device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided. In the SRAM memory device, a first active region of annular shape and a second active region bisecting the annulus are repeatedly formed over the whole cell array. Thus, since the contact hole for connecting the power line to the active region can be formed larger without increasing the cell size, contact resistance can be decreased. Also, the manufacturing method can be simplified since just one gate oxide layer formation process is needed.
