    Abstract: A magnetoresistance effect type head comprises a magnetoresistance effect film having a pair of leads connected thereto and possessing a magnetic field responding part and a pair of upper and lower shield layers having a magnetoresistance effect type head satisfies the relations, W.sub.s <W.sub.r and T.sub.r <W.sub.r, wherein W.sub.s stands for the width of the surface of the upper shield layer facing the magnetoresistance effect film, W.sub.r for the distance between the pair of leads, and T.sub.r for the width of the magnetic field responding part of the magnetoresistance effect film. The magnetic field responding part of the magnetoresistance effect film is formed as of the remainder of the MR film region whose magnetic moment is fixed outside the end part of the upper shield layer facing the MA film. The magnetic field responding part is otherwise formed of a protruding part of the magnetoresistance effect film extended in the direction of the surface facing the medium.

    Abstract: Integrated structure bipolar transistors with controlled storage time are manufactured by forming at least one bipolar transistor occupying a first area on a first surface of the silicon material, covering the first surface of the silicon material with an insulating material layer, and selectively removing the insulating material layer to open a window. The window has a second area much smaller than the first area occupied by the bipolar transistor. Therefore, by implanting into the silicon material a medium dose of platinum ions through the window and diffusing into the silicon material the implanted platinum ions, a uniform distribution of platinum inside the transistor is obtained.

    Abstract: A semiconductor device having N-type source and drain regions formed substantially in parallel to each other in the surface of a P-type semiconductor substrate. A channel region having first to fourth edges are sandwiched between each pair of the source and drain regions on the first and second edges. Gate electrodes are formed substantially in parallel to each other on the semiconductor substrate via gate insulating film so as to cross the source and drain regions. The first and second edges of the channel regions are substantially parallel to the source and drain regions, and third and fourth regions are substantially parallel to the gate electrodes. A P-type impurity diffusion region is formed by ion implantation in accordance with self-alignment with gate electrode, at least on either of the third or fourth edge of at least one of the channel regions.

    Abstract: A tape cassette includes a pair of cassette halves and a pair of hubs enclosed between the cassette halves, and about which a recording medium, or tape can be wound. Each cassette half includes a first molded body and a second molded body overlying it. The first molded body has a first principal surface and a first upstanding wall which is perpendicular to the principal surface and forms an integral part thereof and a part of a peripheral surface of the half. The second molded body has a second principal surface which is generally rectangular and overlies the first principal surface, and a second upstanding wall connected to the first upstanding wall to form the peripheral surface of the half therewith, forming an integral part of the second principal surface and surrounding it. The first and second upstanding walls are connected by a junction having a thickness increasing gradually across the thickness of the half.

    Abstract: In an insulated gate field effect semiconductor device, the gate electrode formed on the gate insulating film includes the first and second semiconductor layers as a double layer. An impurity for providing one conductivity type is not contained in first semiconductor layer which is in contact with a gate insulating film and is contained at a high concentration in the second semiconductor layer which is not in contact with the gate insulating film. Accordingly, By existence of the first semiconductor layer is which the impurity is not doped, the impurity is prevented from penetrating through the gate insulating film from the gate electrode and diffusing into the channel forming region. Also, by existence of the second semiconductor layer in which high concentration impurity is doped, the gate electrode has low resistance.

    Abstract: A thin film low profile write head is provided which has first and second pole pieces which are magnetically connected in a pole tip region and at a back gap. The pole tip region is located between the head surface and a zero throat height and the head has a body region which is located between the zero throat height and the back gap. A plurality of insulation layers are located above the first pole piece in the body region. Each of the insulation layers has an apex where the insulation layer commences and each insulation layer extends from its apex toward the back gap. The plurality of insulation layers typically includes first, second and third insulation layers. In the preferred embodiment the apex of the second insulation layer is located at and defines the zero throat height of the head. This enables a very narrow track width second pole tip to be constructed simultaneously with the second pole piece using ordinary photolithography processes.

By the disk tray, a disk can be easily accommodated in the disk receiving recess and the accommodated disk can be prevented from moving.

    Abstract: A composite thin film slider with a protruding R/W device formed by chemical-mechanical polishing to protrude above its substrate and thereby reduce the distance between the R/W device and the recording media. The slider includes a ceramic or non-ceramic substrate with a substantially planar bearing surface, and a R/W device. The R/W device includes an insulator and certain conductive R/W components, deposited onto the substrate's deposit end. The R/W components may include, for example, a magnetic shield layer, a MR stripe layer, and a magnetic pole tip layer, all layered over the deposit end of the substrate. The R/W components protrude from the insulator sufficiently to extend past the substrate's bearing surface. To manufacture this slider, a substrate with the R/W device deposited thereon is polished with a lapping slurry to disproportionately erode the substrate and insulator with respect to the R/W components.

Because of the high density and high strength of the target, generation of particles at the time of sputtering can be reduced, and because of the reduced content of carbon, mixing of carbon in a thin film formed by the sputtering can be prevented.

    Abstract: A gimbal and corresponding head suspension assembly including a planar flexure platform having integral static attitude compensation, nominal angle adjustment, and load point etched or etched-formed raised features. The head suspension assembly can also include a load point cover with etched or etched-formed load point features. The etched features are manufactured by masking a pivot point at about the intersection of the roll axis and the pitch axis, thus leaving a raised protuberance having either a pivot point or a load point feature. The process of manufacturing etched-formed features includes etching protuberances and slots. A punch press is then applied to the protuberances. The slots help control the formation of raised domes and provide additional static compensation and nominal angle adjustment pivoting clearance.

    Abstract: A double-cassette-type magnetic recording-reproduction apparatus wherein a cam gear allows the second over-stroke lever to shift in advancing and retracting manners and, following these movements, a mode lever and the second head mount are allowed to move to the first through third positions. When the mode lever is located at the first position, the first over-stroke lever is shifted to an operable position and the second head mount is blocked by the second idler lever from its advancing movement. When the mode lever is located at the second position, the shift-blocking state of the second head mount is released, and the first over-stroke lever is not allowed to shift. When the mode lever is located at the third position, the first over-stroke lever and the second head mount are allowed to shift to the operable positions. This construction makes it possible to reduce the number of driving means and cut the cost of production.

A pair of parasitic bipolar transistors are formed in series to provide a current path between the EOS transistors. When the voltage difference between the IC terminals exceeds the breakdown voltage of the EOS transistor with a reverse-biased junction as during an electrostatic discharge event, the parasitic transistors activate the EOS transistor with a reverse-biased junction to divert ESD current from the IC.
