Abstract: Identifying the substrate type of a target substrate before patterning by a marking engine produces an opportunity to adjust the marking engine. The adjustments can enable the marking engine to produce higher quality work. The target substrate's substrate type can be automatically identified by obtaining its characteristics and submitting them to a classifier. A spectrophotometer can measure a substrates reflectance spectrum, which is a good characteristic for use in classifying. Classifiers can be based on known distance or correlation measures.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for deciding a target Packet Error Rate (PER) in a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes setting a target PER, comparing a variance of the target PER (?p(k)) with a previous target PER variance (?p(k?1)), and updating a next target PER variance (?p(k+1)) using an average capacity and a previous average capacity in accordance with the comparison result between the target PER variance (?p(k)) and the previous target PER variance (?p(k?1)).
Abstract: A halftone method and apparatus provides a line screen frequency of N/2 for a printer resolution of N without negative print effects. A 300 lines per inch halftone screen for a 600 dpi printer may thus be created by alternating white and saturated colored lines when half of a given color component's pels are on. Empirical rules are used to create the screens based on how that printer creates consistent and reliable levels for each color component. These rules allow intermediate intensity values between white and full-on at each pel. Since the halftoning is done in the hardware just before printing, the print direction relative to the threshold matrix is known. No rotation capability is needed in the hardware. If an image needs to be rotated, it can be done previously to being sent to the hardware. Furthermore, because a pair of pels are turned on for the lightest values (or possibly with a one level difference between the first and second dots in the pair), the electronics are stressed less.

Abstract: A device having a dipolar ring surrounding an interior region that is disposed asymmetrically on the ring. The dipolar ring generates a toroidal moment switchable between at least two stable states by a homogeneous field applied to the dipolar ring in the plane of the ring. The ring may be made of ferroelectric or magnetic material. In the former case, the homogeneous field is an electric field and in the latter case, the homogeneous field is a magnetic field.

Abstract: A multi-way nested search utilizes one or more knowledge bases to allow a search engine to search through a database of target documents to find the best match for a given situation. In one node of the search, a user can input one or more search terms in an input string that can be searched against the database of target documents to select and score a resulting set of documents. In another node, a reference document can be input and search terms extracted for searching against the database of target documents to select and score a resulting set. In yet another node, a reverse search can be conducted in which the reference document is scored against the result set of target documents from the reference document search. These various search results and scores can be combined using combining functions to ultimately produce the most relevant set of target documents for the user. The user can control how much weigh is given to each search.
Abstract: An inner area of a framing or framework is divided into a plurality of openings by metal frame bars arranged in a lattice pattern. Particular openings are closed by surface glass panes fitted therein, and the remaining openings by metal plates fitted therein. Spacers 10 softer than the surface glass panes and frame bars and capable of transmitting external forces through the frame bars and surface glass panes are mounted in the openings, between end surfaces extending along sides of the surface glass panes and the frame bars. The spacers not adhering to the surface glass panes are spaced from corners of the surface glass panes.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronizing updates to a large set of global counters are described. In one embodiment, the method includes making updates to a global state in response to a file system making changes to data in memory. In parallel, updates are made to a copy of the global state in a temporary buffer in response to the file system flushing the data changes to a mass storage device. The temporary buffer thus includes a set of deltas representing the changes to be made to the global state in response to the changed data in memory being pushed to the mass storage device. The method further includes merging the deltas in the temporary buffer with the global state.
Abstract: A data provider application programming interface (API) is configured for use with a game content editing application. An asset relationship management file, which is generated with the data provider API, includes information such as relationship references and annotations and is updated by the data provider API when a digital asset is edited. The asset relationship management file is then stored in a data store. An asset relationship graph is generated, based on the asset relationship management file in the data store. The asset relationship graph includes asset graph nodes that map dependency relationships between asset files. A graph API is also described. The graph API is configured for accessing the relationship graph through a server process to expose dependency relationships and annotations to a client process, such as an application. Thus, the effect of changes to one asset on other assets can readily be evaluated.

Abstract: A relationship engine provides for the management of relationship information between entities. The relationship information indicates the level (or degree) of relationship between an entity and another entity or entities. The relationship engine allows applications to access the relationship information that is being managed by the relationship engine. For example, when an application needs to process an interaction between one entity and another entity, the application can query the relationship engine for the relationship between the entities. The application can then base its processing behavior at least in part on the relationship information obtained from the relationship engine.

Abstract: An architecture for development and execution of a system for implementing business logic includes an engine providing management of the system and execution of the business logic. A single service-side interface connects the engine to service side plug-in modules, and a single resource side interface connects the engine with resource-side plug-in modules. The server-side and resource-side plug-in modules connect to users and resources, respectively. The single interfaces conform the plug-in module interfaces to one interface to communicate with the engine. The single interfaces employ a single command definition. Development code defining the business logic is written by a user and executed by the engine.
Abstract: A skateboard truck with an offset axle is described. The skateboard truck includes a base plate and a kingpin attached with the base plate. A hanger is also attached with the base plate by the kingpin. The hanger includes an axle pin cast therein. The axle pin has a center axis and an arched portion and is positioned through the hanger such that the center axis of the axle pin passes through the kingpin, with the arched portion passing around the kingpin, thereby offsetting the axle pin and providing additional strength to the skateboard truck.
Abstract: A stopping rule for Turbo decoding that is applied for both good and bad code blocks is disclosed. If the iteration either converges or diverges, decoding is terminated. In an alternative embodiment, the result of the stopping rule testing may be used for H-ARQ acknowledgement generation: if the iteration converges, an ACK is generated and if the iteration diverges, a NACK is generated. Optionally, the maximum number of decoding iterations may be dynamically selected based on MCS levels.
Abstract: A mold includes a controller and core actuators that may independently drive a plurality of mold cores positioned with the mold. Sensors may be included whereby the mold cores are positioned in the mold core responsive to the sensor feedback. The core actuators may be servomotors and may further include motor controllers, one for each servomotor, for use in actuating the mold cores.
