  • Patent number: 7317696
Abstract: An inband signaling modern communicates digital data over a voice channel of a wireless telecommunications networks. An input receives digital data. An encoder converts the digital data into audio tones that synthesize frequency characteristics of human speech. The digital data is also encoded to prevent voice encoding circuitry in the telecommunications network from corrupting the synthesized audio tones representing the digital data. An output then outputs the synthesized audio tones to a voice channel of a digital wireless telecommunications network.

  • Patent number: 7317711
Abstract: A reverse transmission controlling method in a mobile communication system, after receiving forward information, commanding the increase or decrease of the reverse data rate received on a forward control channel from a base station, a mobile station determines whether the previous rate increase available information transmitted to the base station on a reverse control channel before reception of the forward information indicates that a reverse data rate increase is available, if the forward information commands a reverse data rate increase. The mobile station increases the current reverse data rate to a data rate equal to or less than a maximum reverse data rate if the rate increase available information indicates that the reverse data rate increase is available, and transmits reverse data at the increased reverse data rate.

  • Patent number: 7313143
Abstract: Shortcomings in conventional Very High Frequency (VHF) Digital Link Mode 3 (VDL-3) communication techniques for implementing air/ground (A/G) diversity site group (DSG) communication are identified and resolved. Beacon schedules are used to coordinate the use of VDL-3 TDMA management slots. Limited autonomy local address management techniques are used to distribute blocks of unique addresses to the ground stations (GS's) of a DSG from a common base of local addresses maintained at a control site, thus assuring that the respective ground stations assign a unique local identifier to each aircraft supported by the DSG. Aircraft supported by a DSG are polled to obtain time of arrival (TOA) and signal quality information used to: intelligently select the transmit ground station and the receive ground station used for communication between an specific aircraft and the control site; and, intelligently manage contiguous communication handoffs of aircraft from one ground station to another ground station of the DSG.

  • Patent number: 7307955
Abstract: A “loose ACK” method by which a radio access network of a cellular network monitors wireless transmission of packets according to a layered protocol including a radio layer (near the physical layer) and an upper layer, the method including: a step (23) of slow release—in what is called normal buffer management—in which the upper layer removes from a buffer maintained by the upper layer the oldest packet in the buffer when the buffer is full and a new packet arrives, and does so independently of whether the packet being removed has been acknowledged by the radio layer of the terminal; and a step (24) of local acknowledgement in which the radio layer sends an acknowledgement to the upper layer on the occurrence of a predetermined event. The local acknowledgement can trigger either special mode buffer management or release of the buffer to a target (entity or layer).

  • Patent number: 7304955
Abstract: A method and apparatus in a multicast transmission system for routing packets including a scalable architecture that supports QoS. Redundant state information is minimized in the MOSPF multicast forwarding cache of each router in the communications system, thereby rendering MOSPF considerably more scalable. In a particular embodiment, cache redundancy is minimized by using a class of graph compression algorithms to solve a graph compression problem. In another embodiment, the forwarding cache is further consolidated by separating state information pertaining to individual source routers in a multicast group from state information pertaining to the entire multicast group.

  • Patent number: 7301896
Abstract: A redundant changeover apparatus causing no frame synchronization loss even upon occurrence of changeover between working system and protection system. In case of an in-apparatus synchronization system, when two input signals which are mutually asynchronous in phase are changed over by a changeover switch, a changeover switch, a clock extractor, a PLL circuit, and a clock changing portion transmit signals with clocks before the changeover being gradually changed to clocks after the changeover. Alternatively, in case of an in-apparatus synchronize system, data are separated from clocks so that the data are once changed to data with reference clocks, and then for the data, clocks before the changeover are gradually changed to clocks after the changeover.

  • Patent number: 7298691
Abstract: A rate-adaptive mechanism for optimizing transmitter/receiver connections on a carrier-by-carrier basis for maximum date rate based on channel attributes for that connection and direction. Channel information is produced by a channel adaptation process based on channel characteristics and is stored in both transmitter and receiver as a channel map with an associated a channel map index for channel map look-up. The channel map index for a channel map used to modulate a payload of a frame is conveyed by transmitter to receiver in the frame so that the receiver is able to select the correct channel map for demodulation.

  • Patent number: 7260393
Abstract: A communication unit operates in a wireless-networking environment and maintains a mapping for active channels and associated network identifiers. The communication unit may associate with a wireless network using the mapping for one or more of the active channels having a selected network identifier. For associations and reassociations with wireless networks, the communication unit may selectively scan the channels having mapping stored in a table to more quickly identify active channels and thereby reduce scan time. In some embodiments, an access point may perform channel-width measurements and radar detection using the bitmap.

  • Patent number: 7257376
Abstract: There is disclosed a system and method for improving wireless system capacity by reducing collisions where the Signal to Interference Ratio (SIR) is high in systems having a channel reuse of 1. By ordering the channel assignment in each of the interfering cells according to a pattern, for example, according to the distance from a base station (determined by power levels), the mobile stations will become paired on the same channel in a manner to reduce interference between them. In one embodiment, this intelligent assignment is accomplished by assigning mobile stations in one cell such that the mobile station having the strongest signal is assigned channel A while in the interfering cell the mobile station with the weakest signal is assigned to channel A. In another embodiment, certain preferred mobile stations are assigned either interference-free channels or channels paired with weak interference mobile stations.

  • Patent number: 7254118
Abstract: A novel and improved method and apparatus, in a WCDMA communication system (100), for informing a mobile station (101) of a downlink data frame time offset by determining the downlink data frame time offset, and transmitting the downlink data frame time offset via an Active Set Update message transmitted from a cell (102 or 103) to mobile station (101). Once an Active Set Update message is received, the data frame time offset information is provided to a timing block (201) which may determine data frame boundary of each downlink signal. Timing block (201) may then adjust the PN sequence timing corresponding to the downlink signal associated with the data frame time offset such that corresponding data symbols in each data frame are correctly soft combined in a combiner (210).
