Abstract: An improved blast handle that is equipped with an operator input panel to permit the operator, at the blasting site, to adjust the pressure and/or the media mixture ratio. This permits the "fine tuning" of the blast to adjust for changing blast requirements as the substrate material changes. Since the operator has complete control of the blasting parameters, the risk of damaging the substrate or target is minimized.

Abstract: A surgical rod pusher instrument for application of a force against a rod. The instrument has a distal tip which includes a plurality of rod locator recesses, each having a different directional orientation. The rod can be located in the desired recess for application of force against the rod. The plurality of recesses enables the user to apply force to the rod in multiple, selectable directions.

Abstract: A set of wheel speed sensors forming parts of an anti-lock brake control system are tested for proper connection and operation when mounted on a motor vehicle. A check signal is first input to a sensor check terminal connected to a control circuit included in the brake control system, thereby causing the control circuit to light a warning lamp. Then the wheels of the vehicle are successively rotated in a predefined sequence and at a speed corresponding to the lowest vehicle speed at which the brake control system must be active. If all the wheel speed sensors deliver their outputs to the control circuit in the predetermined sequence, the warning lamp goes out to indicate proper functioning and proper connection of the sensors. The warning lamp remains illuminated if one or more of the wheel speed signals are not input to the control circuit or if the wheel speed signals are received by the control circuit in other than the predetermined sequence.

Abstract: A protective body appliance to prevent injury from external force to the underlying region of the wearer's body. The body appliance comprises a generally dome-shaped rigid shield secured to a flexible, compressible pad. The pad has an inner section that is adhered to the wearer's body, and an outer section to which the rigid shield is attached. The inner pad section has two lateral wings separated by a center region all of which form an exposed surface which is placed against the wearer's body. The inner pad section is mated to the outer pad section along the center region so that the wings are movable relative to the outer pad section. The wings permit the shield and outer pad section to shift or rock relative to the inner pad section in response to body movements and external forces, thus increasing the appliance's ability to remain adhered to the wearer over time.

Abstract: A conveyor section has a belt supported above a slide channel in which the pulling chain moves. A laterally extending plastic stabilizer is connected to the chain and is received in a slot at the sides of the channel. The channel is constructed with steel sides and overhead lip and with a plastic bottom wall, such that the chain and stabilizer operate with dissimilar materials in contact at substantially all times.

Abstract: An improved mopping system useful in cleaning a surface, the mopping system includes in combination a handle having a mop head at one end thereof, a container attached to the handle and holding a dispensable liquid, a valve mechanism for dispensing liquid from the container to a surface, a rotatable absorbent belt for removing liquid from the surface, a scrubber for scrubbing the surface, pressure bar for removing liquid from the absorbent belt and a reservoir associated with the rotatable absorbent belt for storing dirty liquid removed from the floor surface in a container separate from the container carrying the dispensable liquid.

Abstract: Damping seals, damping bearings and a support sleeve for the ball bearings of a high speed rotor, the ball bearings being a duplex set having the outer races packaged tightly within the sleeve while the sleeve provides a gap with a support member so that the bearings may float with the sleeve. The sleeve has a web extending radially between the pair of outer races and acts in conjunction with one or more springs to apply an axial preload to the outer races. The sleeves have a series of slits which provide the sleeve with a spring-like quality so that the spring acts to center the rotor upon which the bearings are mounted during start up and shut down. A damping seal or a damping bearing may be used in conjunction with the ball bearings and supporting sleeve, the damping seal and damping bearing having rotor portions including rigid outer surfaces mounted within the bore of a stator portion triangular shaped pockets on the surface facing the rotor.

Abstract: A method of reinstating acceptable flavor to catfish determined to have an unacceptable earthy, musty flavor comprising treating an aquaculture with an inorganic peroxide which releases hydrogen peroxide into the aquatic environment, and subjecting the fish to the treated environment for a time sufficient to reinstate acceptable flavor. Hydrogen peroxide itself or inorganic peroxide which release hydrogen peroxide, such as sodium percarbonate peroxyhydrate, may be used. Flavor reinstatement is achieved in as little as 72 hours.

Abstract: A guide apparatus for orthopedic surgery provides locational guidance for insertion of an orthopedic nail through a pilot bore into the intramedullary canal of a fractured bone. The guide creates a protected channel through soft tissue which shields the soft tissue from contact by a reaming tool and prevents soft tissue from interfering with a reaming procedure. The guide collects marrow and bone fragments, removed during reaming to prevent their dispersion in soft tissue. Bone fragments and marrow collected on the guide are re-introduced into the canal for grafting. The apparatus includes an elongated chute having a concave, arcuate segment terminating at a spooned end adapted to be mounted controllably spaced in alignment with the pilot bore. An elongated pin secured to the backside of the chute extends beyond the spooned end of the chute for insertion into the proximate bone area. Both guide apparatus and method of utilizing the guide apparatus are disclosed.

Abstract: A structure to facilitate the stacking of a significant number of newspapers in a tidy manner and having means for facilitating the bundling of the newspapers stacked in the structure. In a preferred embodiment, the structure includes a framework having an open generally box-like configuration made of wire rod, a support for a supply of string or other filament, and a cutting implement to trim the string to required lengths. The framework is also provided with anchors to retain the string in an operative position ready for tying the newspapers or other paper stacked in the framework.

Abstract: A ducted fan including a funnel-shaped duct positioned upstream of the impeller and connected to a base, an outer cowling concentrically positioned downstream and attached to said duct through a series of ribs, an inner cowling positioned inside the outer cowling and surrounding the impeller and a circular grill attached to the discharge end of the inner cowling. The grill including a center hub and a series of arcuate-shaped ribs extending outwardly from the hub and having a constant curvature of less diameter than the outside radius of the grill whereby the maximum lateral spacing between the ribs is at a radius inboard from the outside radius of the grill.

Abstract: Vibration equipment bases which are isolated from the floor by air bags are made self-leveling by interposing a valve between each of the air bags and a pressurized air supply and each of the air bags and the atmosphere, the valve being sensitive to height of the base in air flow controlling relation to and from the bags to adjust their inflation and thus the height of the base.

Abstract: Gallium and rare earth values are recovered from oxide mixtures thereof by acidulating/dissolving such admixtures in an acid medium, and then liquid/liquid extracting the resulting solution and ultimately recovering said values from the phases which separate. The subject process is advantageously applied, for example, to the recovery of gallium and gadolinium from the waste fines resulting from the production of the garnets Gd.sub.3 Ga.sub.5 O.sub.12.

Abstract: Contrast medium compositions for delineation of bowel during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen are provided for oral or rectal administration. The compositions consist of aqueous suspensions of clay in finely-divided particles which expose a large surface area to the suspending water and impose a condition of dynamic anisotropy upon the adjacent water, resulting in reduction predominantly in the transverse relaxation time of the water and subsequent loss of signal from the bowel lumen.

Abstract: Curable, high solids, liquid coating compositions are disclosed. The resinous binder comprises a copolymer of an alpha-olefin or cycloolefin and an olefinically unsaturated monoanhydride which may include a half-ester thereof. The coating compositions are useful as clear coats in color-plus-clear automotive coatings and have good humidity resistance and mar resistance.

Abstract: An artificial diamond single crystal, at least a part of a surface of the crystal having a rough surface which diffusibly reflects light which is formed by suppressing crystal growth at that surface, and wherein said diamond single crystal is obtained by:providing a diamond synthesis reaction system comprised of a reaction chamber housing having positioned therein a carbon source and a solvent metal arranged in contact with the said carbon source, said reaction system being arranged in a pressure medium;providing a seed crystal in the reaction chamber;providing temperatures of from about 1300.degree. to 1600.degree. C.

Abstract: A vertically extending stripper bar is manipulated to strip a stack of articles from a conveyor while the conveyor is carrying the articles downwardly at high speed. A carriage is mounted for being vertically movable. A pneumatic cylinder is coupled to the carriage. The stripper bar is supported on horizontal guide rods which slide in the vertically movable carriage. A pneumatic cylinder moves the stripper bar horizontally in and out relative to the conveyor. When the correct number of articles has accumulated next to the bar, a stripping cycle is initiated. This involves activating one pneumatic cylinder which pushes the stripper bar horizontally across the path of the downwardly moving articles. A gear rack is mounted to the vertically movable carriage and it is engaged by a gear which begins to drive the carriage and stripper bar downwardly at the same speed that the articles are moving downwardly at the instant the stripper bar begins to move horizontally.

Abstract: In the pulsed FM system, the input signal is first modulated into the pulse FM signal. Thereafter, this pulse FM signal is modulated into the pulsed FM signal by the frequency divider. This pulsed FM system is suitable to CATV.

Abstract: A hair cutting guide is comprised of a plurality of spaced-apart segments, each of which is formed of a pair of legs having longitudinal axes disposed along intersecting planes such that each segment is generally triangular in cross-section. The guide includes a connecting spine or the like for linking the segments along their top portion to produce a unitary structure having a predetermined height measured from the top surface between the segments along a line perpendicular to a plane defined by the distal ends of the legs in the segments.
