Abstract: There is provided an optical waveguide including: a waveguide core through which light propagates; a cavity that is present inside the waveguide core so as to be open at least one end in the thickness direction of the waveguide core; a layer-form first cladding having a lower refractive index than the waveguide core, and sealing at least one of the at least one opening of the cavity to thereby close the opening of the cavity; and a second cladding having a lower refractive index than the waveguide core, and surrounding the waveguide core. There is also provided a method of manufacturing the optical waveguide.
Abstract: Sample mounts (10) for mounting microcrystals of biological macromolecules for X-ray crystallography are prepared by using patterned thin polyimide films (12) that have curvature imparted thereto, for example, by being attached to a curved outer surface of a small metal rod (16). The patterned film (12) preferably includes a tip end (24) for holding a crystal. Preferably, a small sample aperture is disposed in the film for reception of the crystal. A second, larger aperture can also be provided that is connected to the sample aperture by a drainage channel, allowing removal of excess liquid and easier manipulation in viscous solutions. The curvature imparted to the film (12) increases the film's rigidity and allows a convenient scoop-like action for retrieving crystals. The polyimide contributes minimally to background and absorption, and can be treated to obtain desired hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity.

Abstract: An exemplary liquid crystal display device (1) includes a liquid crystal module (10), a circuit board (12), a chassis (16), and a stabilizing clip (18). The circuit board and the liquid crystal module are received in the chassis. The circuit board includes a power socket (122). The liquid crystal module includes a plug (104) electrically connecting with the power socket. The stabilizing clip is detachably engaged with the chassis and the power socket, whereby movement of the plug relative to the power socket is restricted or eliminated.
Abstract: An extrusion die device for a molding machine includes an accumulator which includes a housing, a core extending into the housing, and a main passage formed between the core and the housing and having interconnected upper and lower passage sections. The upper passage section has inner and outer annular passages spaced apart radially from each other. A die head has a die orifice and a die exit connected to a bottom end of the lower passage section. An extruding unit includes an annular plunger disposed movably within the housing, and dividing the upper passage section into the inner and outer passage sections. Two differently colored plastics can be extruded by the single annular plunger from the inner and outer passage sections through the die head.
Abstract: An interlocked clamp for an elongated member such as a pipe, tube cable, or the like is provided. The two-part clamp is interlocked on one end and is secured by a fastener to a supporting surface on an opposite end. The two parts are interlocked by a T-shaped distal end of one of the clamp members that is received in an elongated slot formed in the other clamp member. A finger is provided that extends across the slot and secures the T-shaped distal end within the slot.
Abstract: A voltage sag compensation system includes a capacitor charging and discharging module connected to an AC rectifier and to an inverter, a two stage voltage detector configured to detect a degree of voltage sag that is present on a power line, and an inverter gating module selectively connectable to the power line in response to the two stage voltage detector and configured to provide gating signals to the inverter. The system further includes a low DC bus switch out module configured to monitor an output voltage of the capacitor charging and discharging module and to disable the inverter gating module from providing the gating signals to the inverter when voltage associated with the capacitor charging and discharging module falls below a predetermined value.
Abstract: Apparatus and methods provide an operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) with one or more self-biased cascode current mirrors. Applicable topologies include a current-mirror OTA and a folded-cascode OTA. In one embodiment, the self-biasing cascode current mirror is an optional aspect of the folded-cascode OTA. The self-biasing can advantageous reduce the number of biasing circuits used, which can save chip area and cost. One embodiment includes an input differential pair of a current-mirror OTA.
Abstract: A method for detection of a variable parameter of a vehicle with the aid of a measurement device, by which measured values are evaluated as sensor signals of at least one sensor element which is arranged in the immediate vicinity of an actuating element with an electrical drive, in which no evaluation of the measured values is carried out or performed during an influencing time period between a time of a change in the electrical drive for the actuating element and a time in which this change is essentially still just exerting an influence on the measured values.

Abstract: A transverse pin (17) pierces the core (16, 70) of a round or flat bungee cord (12, 69) to anchor the bungee cord within a molded base (11). A single wire sharply folded near its center (20) into a double strand (21, 22) is bent in a semi-circle to form a hook (25). Bent ends (30, 31) of the double strand are molded into the base.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus for removing water droplets from an air stream having a high air speed. The apparatus is provided with a plurality of water separators to sequentially reduce the water droplet content of the air stream. Preferably, the apparatus is provided with a first water separator to reduce the water droplet content of the air from water droplets which have been picked up as the air is impacted with a water source. The apparatus is provided with a second water separator over which the air flows to further reduce the water droplet content of the air. An outlet duct beyond the second water separator is provided with a third water separator to further reduce the water droplet content of the air to a level which can be handled by a blower used to draw the air through the apparatus.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of image carrying members and an image carrier. Each of the plurality of image carrying members is configured to form and carry a toner image. The image carrier cassette is configured to be detachably installed to the image forming apparatus and includes an image carrier holder. The image carrier holder is configured to rotatably hold the plurality of image carrying members and to allow each of the plurality of image carrying members to be independently removed therefrom.

Abstract: Embodiments of a high-linearity low-noise amplifier (LNA) and method are generally described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed. In some embodiments, an RF input signal may be amplified with a cascode amplifier and a common-gate stage. The common-gate stage is dynamically biased based on an output voltage of the common-gate stage to allow an output voltage swing to be shared between the cascode amplifier and the common-gate stage.
Abstract: According to one exemplary embodiment, a three-way splitter includes a printed element and a resistive network comprising discrete resistors. A first printed branch, second printed branch, and third printed branch distribute a received communication signal to respective outputs having substantially the same phase, frequency, and impedance. Each printed branch includes a number of substantially ninety-degree angles. In one embodiment, the printed branches are quarter wavelength transmission lines in a frequency range of 1.5 GHz. In one embodiment, the three-way splitter consumes less than one square inch of surface area on a printed circuit board, and can be used in a satellite receiving system, for example. In this embodiment, the three-way splitter is utilized for frequencies in the range of approximately 900 MHz to 2.2 GHz.
Abstract: In a color image forming apparatus, a color mode is switched from a full color mode to a single color mode as follows. When the length of an image of a last page in the full color mode is less than the distance from a first-transferring position of a most downstream image forming station to a second-transferring position, if the time interval from arrival of the trailing end of an image of a page immediately previous to the last page at the second-transferring position to arrival of the leading end of the image of the last page at the second-transferring position is longer than the time needed to separate color image forming stations from the second image carrying medium, then the separating operation is started when the trail end of the image of the page immediately previous to the last page in the full color mode reaches the second-transferring position.
