  • Patent number: 9165301
Abstract: Techniques for replacing an advertisement in a webpage from a website with another advertisement are disclosed. A response including the webpage is intercepted in a network device deployed in an in-line fashion, preferably at a data traffic point along a network. When it is determined that the webpage includes an advertisement that is replaceable, a preferable advertisement more correlated to the interests of a user is embedded in data packets to replace those for the original advertisement. Subsequently, the preferable advertisement is served when the webpage is displayed.

  • Patent number: 9064264
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer-readable storage medium, and including a method for predicting visibility of web pages. The method comprises identifying web pages that include slots for presenting content. The method further comprises, for each slot, creating a fingerprint based on a URL associated with the page and structural information associated with the slot's location on the page, determining a likelihood of the slot being visible when the web page is initially presented, the likelihood in the form of a predictive model, and saving the fingerprint and predictive model in a data structure. The method further comprises receiving a request for content from a web page, creating fingerprints associated with the web page, and comparing the fingerprints to fingerprints in the data structure. When a matching fingerprint is located, prediction data is used that is associated with a matching fingerprint for the web page.

  • Patent number: 9020835
Abstract: A social networking system extends the reach of an ad by allowing an advertiser to seed a search for suggesting targeting criteria for an ad. Using the seeds, the social networking system identifies a set of seed objects from a social graph. The social networking system traverses the social graph to compute the similarity between the seed objects and candidate objects related to the seed objects. Based on the computed similarity, the social networking system suggests a set of target objects to the advertiser. The social networking system receives a selection of one or more target objects from the advertiser. From the selected target objects the social networking system determines one or more targeting criteria for the ad, so users with an edge in the social graph to any of the selected target objects are eligible to receive the ad.

  • Patent number: 8768772
Abstract: One aspect relates to a social bookmarking system that has the capability of displaying advertisements based on user input provided to the system. Advertisements displayed to the user may be determined based on one or more classifications provided by the social bookmarking system and selected by the user. Further, classification information that is created, used, or otherwise associated with the particular user may be used to determine ads displayed to that user. Another aspect relates to a system for collecting user classifications of content and using such classifications to match ads to appropriate content. In such a manner, more appropriate associations between ads and content may be made. Such classifications may be collected, for example, using a social bookmarking system. Further, advertisers may subscribe to classifications created in the social bookmarking system, allowing their advertisements to be displayed to users that perform actions with the subscribed classification.
