  • Patent number: 4508477
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved fastening device (70, 72, 74, 76, 78) for securement of a threaded member such as a screw ("s") to an article such as a panel or the like. The device is of the type having a base member (12) having a frusto-conical projection (14) having a lower and higher helical edge (16, 16a) surrounding an opening (40, 42') therethrough which in conjunction with a pair of resilient finger portions (30, 32') having respective free-ends (34, 36) spaced-apart from each other along an axis ("y--y") defined therebetween of which one finger portion is displaced a distance ("x") further from the base member than the other finger portion to provide a means of engaging the threads of the threaded member.

  • Patent number: 4502165
Abstract: A nut and washer unit for attachment of a plumbing faucet or fixture permits rapid and easy mounting at a supporting structure. The nut is placed on the shank before the faucet or fixture is dropped through the mounting hole. A C-shaped washer is positioned from below, between the nut and the mounting structure. An axially separable coupling between the nut and washer achieves initial placement of both parts at the mounting structure by simple hand rotation of the nut. Final clamping is achieved by engagement of wings formed on the washer, rotation of the washer causing corresponding rotation of the nut and, hence, advancement of both parts into clamping position.

  • Patent number: 4500240
Abstract: Disclosed is a bolt fastener adapted to rotatably or non-rotatably secure a bolt to a frame through an aperture therethrough. The fastener is provided with a base member having a slot therethrough and a resilient arm that extends upwardly from an edge of the base member and, in spaced relationship, across the side thereof that is to face away from the side of the frame against which the base member is to be laid and then downwardly past an opposite edge of the base member and then inwardly towards a plane generally transverse to the plane of the base member to a free-end thereof disposed in the side of the base member facing towards the frame against which the base member is to be laid to provide an open-ended clip.

  • Patent number: 4500237
Abstract: A tension indicating device which includes at least one indicating arm and reference means carried by a stamped generally frustoconical spring washer. A relieved area in the bearing surface of the washer prevents work surface irregularities from producing erroneous tension indications. The arm and reference means may mechanically engage one another and the arm may be made separately and attached to the washer. Indications made by the arm are designed to be visually discernable from a distance.

  • Patent number: 4488448
Abstract: The decoupling device is used for connecting the rods, especially gearshift rods disposed between the transmission and the gearshift lever of a motor vehicle. The incorporation of the device into the gearshift linkage permits to and fro movement of the decoupled gearshift rod and suspends the rigid connection between the gearshift lever and the transmission after the transmission has been shifted into a gear. A form-locking connection between the two gearshift rods is only established at the time of selecting or shifting in and out of a gear. The suspension of the rigid connection between the gearshift lever and the transmission effected by the decoupling device eliminates the problem of gear-jumping.The decoupling device incorporates a displaceable intermediate member adapted to control the decoupling operation, which is disposed between ends of the gearshift rods which are in engagement with one another and are located inside a tubular member.

  • Patent number: 4485688
Abstract: A decoupling mechanism is provided by incorporating a connecting element into the gearshift linkage disposed between the transmission and gearshift lever. A relatively simple and compact decoupling device is provided for effectively eliminating gear jumping. For this purpose, segmental sleeve portions having internally toothed gear means are axially coupled with the gearshift rod disposed on the side of the gearshift lever, but are adapted for radial inward displacement against the force exerted by springs through cams provided on the tubular casing. Externally toothed gear means are provided on the gearshift rod disposed on the transmission side in the area of the sleeve portions.

  • Patent number: 4482278
Abstract: An improved bolt which has a head with a plurality of sharp projections extending in the direction of the shank so that the head can bite in and lock the bolt to a workpiece. A second embodiment utilizes a plastic encapsulation over the head, for example, for use with buildings wherein the openings through which the shank passes is to be sealed and in this embodiment the sharp projections cut through the plastic encapsulating material so as to bite into the workpiece and such cuts are spaced so that the edge of the encapsulating material is not completely separated from the main portion of the encapsulating material.

  • Patent number: 4478546
Abstract: A quick release bolt system utilizes two bolt sections. Each bolt section approximates one half of a bolt and has a half head portion and half threaded portion. Each section has an inner face which are parallel to and approach one another when the two bolt sections are assembled. A slide insert is receivable between the bolt section faces such that when the sections are assembled with the slide insert therebetween, the bolt can be threaded into a threaded receiving aperture in a block or the like with the threads of the bolt engaging the corresponding threads of the aperture. On the other hand, with the slide insert removed, the bolt sections approach each other and abut at their flat faces sufficiently close such that the two bolt sections can be slid into the threaded receiving aperture without the threads of the bolt sections engaging the threads of the threaded aperture.

  • Patent number: 4478543
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a blind plastic rivet having a fully polymerized head and shear portion and a partially polymerized head forming portion. The head forming portion is deformed upon heating due to tensioning of a centrally disposed mandrel thereby to form a blind rivet having a fully polymerized blind head.

  • Patent number: 4478542
Abstract: An expansion anchor grip sleeve assembly comprising an anchor grip sleeve axially aligned with an expansion anchor shield. The anchor grip sleeve possesses grasping prongs or locking means which engage the expansion anchor shield. A bolt passes through the anchor grip sleeve and expansion anchor shield with the bolt having threads that engage threads in the expanding plug in the expansion anchor shield, such that when the bolt is tightened the grasping prongs or locking means of the anchor grip sleeve engage the expansion anchor shield to activate the expansion anchor shield. This results in the establishment of the expansion anchor grip sleeve assembly in one or more surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4476643
Abstract: A hand control system for a motorized implement such as a snowblower, lawn mower or tiller having a U-shaped handle in which a pair of control levers and a U-shaped bail are pivotally mounted on the handle such that the control levers can be pivoted independently or conjointly by the bail from a first, at-rest, inoperative position distal from the handle to a second, operative position proximate to the handle. The bail co-operates with the control levers to permit sequential activation of one control lever before the other for improved operation of the implement, permits one-handed control of the implement from various positions on the implement handle, and at all times maintains the safety feature of a "deadman" control.
