  • Patent number: 7932880
Abstract: In order to charge and discharge parasitic capacitance of a source signal line sufficiently and program a predetermined current value into a pixel transistor, it is necessary to output a relatively large current from the source driver circuit. However, if such a large current is passed through the source signal line, the value of this current is programmed into the pixel, causing a larger than desired current to flow through an EL element. For example, if a 10 times larger current is used for programming, a 10 times larger current flows through the EL element, and thus the EL element illuminates 10 times more brightly. To obtain predetermined emission brightness, the time during which the current flows through the EL element can be reduced to 1/10 of one frame (1 F). This way, the parasitic capacitance of the source signal line can be charged and discharged sufficiently and the predetermined emission brightness can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 7924248
Abstract: To provide a drive method capable of maintaining gradation display performance regardless of screen display brightness. Reference numeral 491R denotes a regulator used to control reference current for red (R). By adjusting a reference current for R linearly, it is possible to linearly vary a current flowing through a transistor 472a which constitutes a current mirror with a transistor 471R. This changes a current flowing through a transistor 472b which has received a current-based delivery from the transistor 472a in a transistor group 521a. This in turn causes changes to a transistor 473a in a transistor group 521b which constitutes a current mirror with the transistor 472b, resulting in changes to a transistor 473b which has received a current-based delivery from the transistor 473a. Thus, since drive current of the unit transistor 484 changes, programming current can be changed linearly.

  • Patent number: 7903058
Abstract: A circuit and method for monitoring the forward voltage for a plurality of LEDs in a battery powered device so that the gain in the LED driver circuit can be switched at a point that optimizes the energy provided by the battery. The invention provides for sensing each LED's voltage, VLED, and determining the maximum forward voltage, VLEDmax, between the plurality of LEDs. The invention uses the knowledge of VLEDmax in conjunction with VIN, converter output resistance and LED current, and current source/sink minimum headroom to switch from an initial gain to some higher gain just before the current sinks/sources would drop out, or from a higher gain to a lower gain in the event of the battery voltage going back to a voltage close to its initial value after being momentarily pulled down by a heavy load.

  • Patent number: 7852287
Abstract: Technology that enables writing in a PDP to be conducted effectively, even when a time period of the writing is shortened. In a PDP driven by a method in which a write discharge is selectively generated in a plurality of cells by applying a scan pulse sequentially to a plurality of first electrodes and a data pulse selectively to a plurality of third electrodes in a write period, the technology provides for a write auxiliary discharge to be generated at least in a cell selected for writing or in a vicinity of the selected cell when the scan pulse is applied in the write period, the write auxiliary discharge being smaller in magnitude than the write discharge. The write auxiliary discharge results in the generation of priming particles in or in a vicinity of the selected cell, and these priming particles facilitate the generation of a write discharge in the selected cell.

  • Patent number: 7800590
Abstract: An input apparatus causes the user to feel a force sense as a feedback from an operation surface that he or she has pressed. When the input apparatus is in the standby state for the user to press the operation surface, a drive voltage is not supplied to a piezoelectric actuator. When the operation surface is pressed at timing T401, the drive voltage is gradually increased. At this point, as the piezoelectric actuator is curved, the operation surface is gradually raised. After predetermined period T1 has elapsed, at timing T402, the piezoelectric actuator is quickly curved in the reverse direction. At timing T403, the operation surface is deformed to the lowest position. This position of the operation surface is kept until the operation surface has been pressed at T404. When period T1 is sufficiently larger than period T2, immediately after the operation surface is pressed, it is deformed. Thereafter, since the operation surface is deformed in the reverse direction, the user can feel a strong force sense.

Abstract: An output pulse of a flip flop is delayed in a delay inverter circuit before supplied to an input terminal of a level shifter. Then, an output pulse of the next stage flip flop is supplied to a reset terminal of the first flip flop and also to an enable terminal of the level shifter. Further, the level shifter output a sampling pulse with a beginning end equal to the beginning end of the pulse supplied to the input terminal and a terminal and equal to the beginning and of the pulse supplied to the enable terminal. With this arrangement, the subject invention provides a pulse output circuit, a driving circuit for a display device using the pulse output circuit, a display device and a pulse output method, that reduce delay of the terminal end of the pulse in sequentially outputting pulses from plural output terminals.
