  • Patent number: 7742023
Abstract: In an electroluminescence display device having, on a display panel, a display portion in which pixels are arranged in matrix, an external connection terminal is placed along a lateral side of the display panel and a vertical scan driver circuit is placed on a lateral side of the display panel which opposes the lateral side on which the external connection terminal is placed. Lines for a horizontal scan driver circuit and for the vertical scan driver circuit can be provided only on three sides of the display panel including the side on which the external connection terminal is provided, a side opposing this side, and another side. By not placing the line for the driver circuits on the remaining side, spaces can be secured on this side for a drive current line which supplies power to an electroluminescence element. With this structure, a size of a frame portion can be reduced while securing sufficient width for the drive current common line.

  • Patent number: 7714821
Abstract: Disclosed is an OCB mode liquid crystal display and a method for driving the same. The OCB mode liquid crystal display includes at least one pair of upper and lower pre-tilt electrodes to partially cover each of upper and lower driving electrodes. A pre-tilt voltage equal to or higher than a transition voltage is applied between the upper and lower pre-tilt electrodes to shift liquid crystal molecules into a first orientation state, that is, to shift a portion of the liquid crystal molecules into a bend or vertical orientation state. Therefore, although a low driving voltage is applied between the upper and lower driving electrodes, the liquid crystal molecules can rapidly be shifted into a second orientation state for screen display. Consequently, a high response speed can be achieved, so that it is possible to display a high-speed moving picture and to reduce power consumption.

  • Patent number: 7701445
Abstract: A pair of through-holes 41a and 41b having the same shape are formed and aligned in a flexible board 4 on which a wiring pattern 42 is formed. A piezoelectric actuator 3 made of a piezoelectric bi-morph device is inserted into the first through-hole 41a and then into the second through-hole 41b from the opposite surface side. As a result, both the ends in the longitudinal direction of the piezoelectric actuator 3 contact the same surface of the flexible board 4. The flexible board 4 is disposed so that it contacts a touch sensor portion except for a part of the flexible board 4. Thus, a high performance force sense feedback function caused by the panel that deforms corresponding to an input operation can be accomplished at low cost.

  • Patent number: 7659885
Abstract: Disclosed is a “keyboard overlay” that sits on top of a touch-sensitive display screen of a computing device. After aligning the overlay on the display screen, the user types on the overlay. When the user presses a key on the overlay, the pressure is transmitted to the display screen below. That pressure is registered by the display screen as a touch. The keyboard overlay is formed to provide tactile finger-position feedback so that a user can keep his fingers oriented properly over the keyboard. The overlay may be opaque with keycap information displayed in the key areas. The overlay may be transparent, allowing a user to see a virtual keyboard painted on the display screen below. The computing device can detect the presence and type of an overlay. Applications may respond differently to different types of overlays. Different applications may be invoked depending upon the type of overlay detected.
