Abstract: A short message service (SMS) flood control routing node includes an SMS flood control module that receives short message service messages, determines the presence of short message service flooding, and takes appropriate action, such as discarding short message service messages that result in flooding. The presence of short message service message flooding may be determined by maintaining a count of short message service messages addressed to a particular called party within a time period. If the count exceeds a threshold, the short message service message that caused the count to exceed the threshold may be discarded. The routing node may generate a message the originator of a short message service message flood and/or to an enforcement agency.
Abstract: A method for transferring data from a first switch to a second switch selectively by line-switching or by packet-switching as well as to a switch for carrying out the method. Data packets are thereby first transferred packet-switched through a packet-switching network to the second switch. With the presence of a corresponding control signal a line-switching connection is established from the first switch to the second switch and the data are then transferred through this connection. Where applicable a renewed change over to a packet-switching transfer is carried out. A flexible packet-switching or line-switching data transfer linked with dynamic costs between the junctions of a telecommunications network is enabled.

Abstract: In an electronic conference system, a speaker's equipment acquires information regarding the audience's equipment from the audience's equipment, produces presentation data for transmission suitable for the audience's equipment, by applying a prescribed processing to the presentation data according to the information regarding the audience's equipment, and transmits the presentation data for transmission to the audience's equipment, such that the presentation data can be displayed correctly even at the audience's equipments which have display capabilities different from that of the speaker's equipment.
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide an efficient channel access method on the base of propagation delay times in a random access system. The access control method of the present invention for CDMA system wherein a base station is connected with a plurality of mobile stations by the random access is characterized in that the base station stores the propagation delay time of the preamble signal into a memory unit, when the base station transmits a rejection signal for rejecting a communication toward the mobile station which transmits the preamble signal. Further, the base station transmits a allowance signal for allowing a communication toward the mobile station of which propagation delay time is substantially equal to that stored in the memory in the base station.

Briefly, in accordance with another embodiment, a method of encoding binary digital signals so as to reduce EMI emissions during signal transmission across a bus or interconnect includes applying a pseudo-random pattern of binary digital signals to encode selected binary digital signals so as to reduce the harmonic content of the selected binary digital signals.
Abstract: The effectiveness of a communication system for broadcasting curtailment messages to comfort system thermostats is enhanced by conducting an initial test broadcast for the purposes of compiling a list of those users that did not receive the test broadcast. This list is then used in combination with a later broadcast of a curtailment message to also send the curtailment message to those individuals on the list by a more robust communication system to ensure that a greater number of users will receive the broadcast message.
Abstract: A unified in-building communication method in a communication system connected to a public land mobile network (PLMN), a public switched telephone network/integrated services digital network (PSTN/ISDN), and an Internet protocol (IP) network is disclosed. The method comprises setting a common cell area such that a wireless public or wireless in-company communication service is available in a prescribed local area; and connecting a mobile switching center (MSC) to the PLMN, using a registered mobile terminal as an extension telephone in the common cell area, and bypassing an unregistered mobile terminal, so that the PLMN can share a base station. The registered mobile terminal communicates with a wire extension terminal or a wireless extension terminal, and the registered mobile terminal wirelessly receives a data service through the IP network. The wireless in-building communication service of the present invention is performed in a single cell so that a handoff does not occur.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for intelligent packet forwarding utilizing virtual ports defined by a grouping of one or more STS-1s allocated to source and destination I/O devices (client) connected to an NxSTS-1 SONET network. A data flow path for transporting the client data is established from one virtual port at the source port to another virtual port at the destination port. The data flow path is established by notifying each of the ports of the data flow path and providing to the source port an address identifying the destination port and providing to the destination port an address identifying the source port.

Abstract: A receiver for CDMA signals, in which data intended for transmission to multiple intended receivers is spread by respective orthogonal spreading codes and scrambled by an aperiodic random scrambling code, includes a processing branch for each of a number of base stations from which the receiver may pick up CDMA signals. Each processing branch performs both channel equalisation based on a set of weights for that branch, and a decoding operation. The outputs of the branches are combined to produce a combined signal which is used both for determining the data intended for the receiver, and in a feedback loop to improve the sets of weights. The receiver is reliable even in the presence of mutipath fading and during soft handover.
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus, system and method of traffic measurement for a node in a telecommunication network. A communication linkset is monitored and a traffic measurement collection is triggered when the linkset is determined to be overdriven or overloaded. For an overdriven linkset, outbound messages are examined to determine the associated communication linksets providing traffic to the overloaded linkset and a count is initiated for messages received on those associated communication linksets.
Abstract: A method or system or apparatus provides improved digital communication. In one aspect, destination scheduling is performed by scheduling polling rather than scheduling data emissions. In particular aspects, a loop port scheduler assigns a weight and sequence number to each destination and scheduling polling of ports using these parameters.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating implementation of a location service in a radio communication system. When a location service is initiated, a network-based entity is alerted to the service initiation. The network-based entity generates a message to inquire of network-based information that facilitates the location determination of the mobile station pursuant to the location service. When the information is obtained, the information is forwarded to the mobile station. The information is used at the mobile station to facilitate the effectuation of the location service.
Abstract: A switch of a network. The switch includes a port card for sending and receiving packets to and from the network. The switch includes a plurality of fabrics connected to the port card. Each fabric switches portions of the packet. Each fabric has a queue in which portions of the packet are stored. The switch includes a first dequeuer for dequeueing the portions of the packet. The switch includes a second dequeuer for dequeueing the portions of the packets. The switch includes a state machine for controlling when the first and second dequeuers dequeue the portions of the packet. A method for sending packets with a switch of a network. The method includes the steps of dequeueing with a first dequeuer of a fabric portions of a packet from a queue of the fabric. Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting data wherein it is possible to transmit data on the basis of hardware addresses from a source network device to a destination network device. The source network device assigns the data to be transmitted a fictitious hardware address which is used to identify a transmission destination without matching the latter's real hardware address prescribed by the manufacturer. The fictitious hardware address is transferred to an inventive address conversion apparatus in which the fictitious hardware address has been assigned an address information item identifying the destination network device. The address information item associated with the fictitious hardware address is then assigned to the data, which are forwarded to the destination network device using this address information item.
Abstract: A method for call admission control in a fast dynamic channel allocation wireless communication system begins by requesting that a call be admitted. System measurement results are obtained and timeslot sequences are generated by determining a figure of merit for each timeslot. A code set is determined and an attempt is made to assign a code set to a timeslot sequence, wherein each successful assignment is considered to be a solution. The solution having the lowest weighted total interference signal code power is selected, and codes are allocated for the selected solution. The physical resource allocation information is recorded and a response to the call admission request is issued.
Abstract: An improved telephone system over a single telephone line within a residence or other building is disclosed, supporting exchange features and enabling easy expansion for multiple external lines. The existing telephone wiring is used as the medium for a local data communication network, carrying multiple voice channels. In each outlet, one or more voice channels are converted into a standard telephone-line interface. Life-line functionality is facilitated by using the lower band of the spectrum isolated from the data communication network, and a dedicated connector in the outlet provides access to this band. External telephone feeders are converted to digital form for interfacing to the in-home data communication network.
Abstract: A system controls the transfer of data. The system receives a request to transfer data and determines whether a counter value equals or exceeds a threshold. The counter value represents an amount of time since a previous data transfer. When the counter value equals or exceeds the threshold, the system transmits the data. In another implementation, the system tracks the amount of data read from a buffer. The system reduces the speed at which data is read when the amount of data read from the buffer exceeds a threshold.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for auto-sensing LMI protocols in frame relay networks. When a router is first coupled to a frame relay network, it automatically configures the local management interface (LMI) to use one of a selected set of possible LMI protocols, by generating a set of protocol requests for a plurality of protocols, and by thereafter simultaneously listening for protocol responses from the configuration server. Multiple valid responses from the configuration server are assigned priority in response to which valid response is last to arrive.
