  • Patent number: 6958983
Abstract: A method and system are provided for optimal routing of calls in an Internet Protocol-based Base Station System (IP-based BSS), whereby a plurality of new messages are introduced on the A-interface. One such message informs the BSS that the Circuit Identity Codes (CICs) included in the message can be connected to the BSS to provide optimal routing of one or more calls. Another such message informs the BSS that the CICs included in the message are to be restored as separate CICs on the A-interface. The provision of such messages overcomes the significant disadvantages of the existing and developing BSS implementations.

  • Patent number: 6956854
Abstract: A switching device for forwarding network traffic to a desired destination on a network, such as a telephone or computer network. The switching device includes multiple ports and uses a lookup table containing lookup keys to determine which port to forward network traffic over. The lookup tables are populated based on use. Consequently, the lookup tables on different ports contain different addresses. By storing only addresses that a port uses, each port's lookup table is unique to that port's characteristics. Additionally, aging techniques are used on both source and destination addresses in the lookup table so that stale entries are removed and memory is conserved.

  • Patent number: 6956815
Abstract: Many communications protocols involve a collection of communication channels collectively forming the dimensions of a finite dimensional vector space, of which at any point in time, only a subset of those channels or dimensions must be received. Messages on these channels are time progressions in at least the actively used dimensions of the vector space which have been linearly transformed to create a sample list transported across at least one physical transport layer to a receiver. The linear transform may further include an estimation of the effects of the transport of the sample list across the one or more physical layers to the receiver. This invention uses at least portions of pseudo-inverses of the linear transform in various ways within receivers and receiver portions of transceivers.

  • Patent number: 6954429
Abstract: A bandwidth control system for a network, the network having a host computer that includes a first network interface and a second network interface. A packet driver adapted to be executed on the host computer is logically connected to the first network interface and the second network interface. The packet driver captures packets received from the network on the first network interface. A traffic shaper adapted to be executed on the host computer maintains a topology representation of the network, the topology representation including one or more nodes. The traffic shaper performs priority and packet rate metering functions on the captured packets to match a set of rate conditions unique to each node in the topology representation of the network. The captured packets are returned to the packet driver for transmission to the network on the second network interface.

  • Patent number: 6950387
Abstract: The present invention provides communication methods, systems, and apparatuses. Methods are provided in which a second signal for transmission is obtained by halving values of an initial portion and a tail portion of a first signal, and adding zeros following the tail portion. Upon or after reception, a third signal is obtained from the received second signal and used in obtaining information. Obtaining each of an initial portion and a tail portion of the third signal includes adding together at least a portion of each of the initial portion and the tail portion of the second signal.

  • Patent number: 6940811
Abstract: A redundant information processing system with sufficient reliability is provided at a moderate cost without any part that could be a single fault point in the system. In the redundant information processing system in which an actuator 5 is controlled based on a signal from a sensor 4, each of processing devices 1A to 1C collects command signals from other processing devices and determines which command signal to be valid according to a logical decision, for example, a majority decision. When the command signals of more than two of the processing devices including the relevant processing device which determines are valid, the command signals are output according to priority while a control information blocking signal is output to a processing device other than those which are valid.

  • Patent number: 6940842
Abstract: A method for providing wireless communication of digital signals is provided, with the digital signals being communicated between wireless subscriber units and a base station. The digital signals are communicated using at least one radio frequency (RF) channel via Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) modulated radio signals defined by orthogonal codes. The method includes making available a plurality of orthogonal subchannels within each CDMA RF channel. Available orthogonal subchannels are allocated on an as-needed basis for subscriber units actively sending data. An idling mode connection is provided on a reverse link for subscriber units which are powered on, but not actively sending data, by assigning a shared orthogonal subchannel to at least two different subscriber units, but utilizing different time slots of the shared orthogonal subchannel.

  • Patent number: 6937564
Abstract: A method is disclosed for receiving a downlink radio link control (RLC) data block with a mobile station, as is a mobile station and a computer program that operate in accordance with the method. The method includes receiving the RLC data block; determining if a final block indicator (FBI) bit is set and, if it is, determining if a Relative Reserved Block Period (RRBP) field is valid, and, if it is not, discarding the received data block. For the case where the mobile station is in an EGPRS TBF mode of operation, and if a retransmitted RLC data block is split into two parts, and if in a first part of the retransmitted RLC data block the FBI is set, and in a second retransmitted part of the RLC data block there is a valid RRBP field, then these data blocks are retained.

  • Patent number: 6937594
Abstract: A hybrid network (100) includes a plurality of network elements (102, 106, 110, 114) that are coupled together by communication links (116, 118, 120, 122, 124). The network elements operate on different communications protocols. A loop back test message traverses a path (140) across network elements to test the integrity and quality of the path. Each network element that receives the loop back message modifies the message in a predetermined manner. The originator of the message verifies that the message was modified in an appropriate manner and in an appropriate time frame to determine integrity and quality.

  • Patent number: 6934293
Abstract: The network switches and computer readable mediums of the present invention allocate port assignments based on load, that is, the amount of data being forwarded through each port in the group. The load balancing of the present invention is preferably dynamic, that is, packets from a given stream may be forwarded on different ports depending upon each port's current utilization. When a new port is selected to transmit a particular packet stream, it is done so that the packets cannot be forwarded out of order. This is preferably accomplished by ensuring passage of a period of time sufficient to allow all packets of a given stream to be forwarded by a port before a different port is allocated to transmit packets of the same stream. The invention may be used in a variety of different network environments and speeds, including 10Base-T, 100Base-T, and Gigabit Ethernet, and other network environments.

  • Patent number: 6930991
Abstract: A CDMA wireless digital communication system which supports all types of voice and data communications while utilizing the minimum amount of bandwidth for the particular application. The system efficiently allocates ISDN bandwidth on demand by a subscriber. Upon initialization of the subscriber unit, the system establishes a channel and generates the necessary spreading codes to support the highest capacity channel desired by the subscriber unit. Portions of the communication spectrum bandwidth are not reserved until actually required by the subscriber unit. Since the call setup is performed at the beginning of a call from that subscriber unit, including the assignment of spreading codes, a subscriber unit can quickly gain access to the portion of the spectrum that is required to support the particular application.

  • Patent number: 6928069
Abstract: A bandwidth management apparatus determines, when a call whose communication information is to be transmitted as a sequence of datagrams is assigned, a link to be used for transmitting the communication information, judges whether there exists a surplus bandwidth in sections of the determined link, and allocates the call to a bandwidth necessary for transmitting the communication information when the judgement result is true, and informs a node that is involved in call setup for the call about the judgement result. Also disclosed are an address resolution assistance apparatus that cooperates with the bandwidth management apparatus, a band managing method, and an address resolution assisting method which realize the respective apparatuses. In a network to which the invention is applied, good speech quality can be stably maintained irrespective of its configuration and scale.

  • Patent number: 6925092
Abstract: A communication station and communication method for effectively multiplexing data into a combined data stream by adding a special header to the combined data packet. The bit positions of this special header indicate the presence of data packets in a data stream in a combined data packer. The combined data packet is transmitted from the first to the second communication station through a first communication channel. Changes in the data streams can be communicated to the receiving communication station through a second communication channel, so that the second communication station can restore relations between data streams and recreate stripped headers.
