Sub-band gains that are to be applied to the input audio signal are determined based on the determined SPL. When the input audio signal is for example telephony the sub-band gains are computed using the first gain lookup table, and when the input audio signal is for example media the sub-band gains are computed using the second gain lookup table.     Abstract: A system for identifying the calling device used to place a call in to an enterprise call center. The system also provides information about the network path through which the call was delivered. The system uses active “pinging” in the audio channel during the first few seconds of the call. The device of the invention sends a special sequence of audio tones from the callee to the caller over the audio channel. The system then records and analyses the resulting incoming audio and compares them with the original tones. The system uses that information to characterize the calling device, and possibly the network path as well. The system checks this information against previously stored information from a known valid caller to aid in verifying the identity of the caller, or to flag the call for further assessment via other methods.

At an inbound customer call handling apparatus, a SIP INVITE is received from a destination carrier servicing the inbound customer intended for a destination user agent (UA) device of the inbound customer. The SIP INVITE includes a current origination identifier (ORIG ID) comprised of a fixed length character string. The call handling apparatus accesses a database of stored ORIG ID character strings, each stored ORIG ID character string in the database having been included with a previous SIP INVITE that has been previously associated with an unwanted inbound call. The call handling apparatus analyzes the current ORIG ID character string to determine if it matches any stored ORIG ID character strings in the database. When there is a match to a stored ORIG ID character string, the SIP INVITE is not forwarded to the destination UA device. Otherwise, it is forwarded to the destination UA device.
