  • Patent number: 8633830
Abstract: A system for communication in an oil and gas well, the system including a controller, a first universal wireless adapter (UWA) wirelessly coupled to the controller, where the UWA is coupled to a first field device, a second UWA wirelessly coupled to the controller, where the UWA is coupled to a second field device, where the controller passes a control token among the first and second UWAs based upon communication traffic between the first and second UWA and the first and second field devices respectively. In some embodiments, this control token may be passed between the first and second UWAs depending upon communications between the respective UWAs and their field devices. For example, in the event that communication traffic is greater between the first UWA and the first field device, then the control token is passed to the first UWA.

  • Patent number: 8537036
Abstract: A device for transferring keyboard commands from a user to an electronic apparatus or machine. An arm intended to be carried by the user as a headset, is provided with signal sensors responding to the presence or pressure of the user's tongue by emitting an electric signal or impulse. A signal unit registers and converts signals from the sensors into corresponding keyboard commands which are then input to the electronic device or machine. The device thus basically works as a keyboard where the signal sensors constitute keys that can be operated solely by the tongue, i.e. without involving the hands.

  • Patent number: 8537029
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus for facilitating utility meter communication are provided. One or more communications to be transmitted by a utility meter may be identified by the utility meter. A cost associated with the transmission of the one or more communications may be determined by the utility meter, and a determination may be made as to whether the cost satisfies one or more cost parameters. If it is determined that the cost satisfies the one or more cost parameters, the one or more communications may be transmitted by the utility meter. If, however, it is determined that the cost does not satisfy the one or more cost parameters, the one or more communications may be stored by the utility meter for subsequent transmission.
