  • Patent number: 6511260
Abstract: A utility line guide chute disposed behind a plow for installing multiple utility lines. Divider members disposed between guide chute-side walls are provided for guiding the multiple utility lines in the top of the guide and out a lower rearward portion of the guide whereby utility lines can be laid into the ground at predetermined depths in vertically spaced relationships with respect to each other as the plow and guide chute move forward. A sidewall of the guide chute is composed of separate parts, the shape of respective ones of said separate parts corresponding at least in part to the position of each of more than one respective utility line within the guide whereby the separate parts of the second wall can be selectively removed to facilitate removal of selected ones of the utility lines without removing other ones of the utility lines.

  • Patent number: 6510587
Abstract: A door closure preventing device is mounted on the inside surface of a door and has a pivotal stop moveable between a deactivated position within the periphery of the door and the extended position extending beyond the periphery of the door to prevent closure of the door. The pivotal stop is moved to its extended position following opening of the door by a user and is then released to move by a spring to an intermediate position projecting beyond the door periphery following which closure of the door results in engagement of the door jamb by the stop to prevent complete closure. Engagement of the stop with the door jamb also returns the stop to is fully extended position and actuates a rotary latch so that upon subsequent opening movement of the door by the user the stop is automatically returned to its fully retracted position to permit a conventional door closure apparatus to fully close the door.

  • Patent number: 6505993
Abstract: A method and a device for braking vehicles, in particular race car vehicles at the edge of a racetrack, whereby an elastic, safety wall consisting of individual elements linked together movably like a chain and extending far beyond the critical location is arranged in a clearance adjacent to the critical location of the racetrack. A vehicle coming off the racetrack and colliding with the safety wall is braked by the elastic movement of the safety wall with the vehicle. This inexpensive method of manufacturing a safe safety wall guarantees linear and soft deceleration of a vehicle, greatly improving the safety of the race car drivers.

Abstract: An apparatus for protecting structural supports from damage when impacted by an object such as a moving vehicle is provided. The apparatus has a shaped component which in the preferred embodiment is a semi-cylindrical component having a body defined by a wall, a top, and a base. The wall has at least one flat wall face and surrounds a hollow interior. An indentation for receiving a structural support is present in at least one flat wall face. A means for securing the shaped component to the structural support and for firmly seating one component at its flat wall face against the second component at its flat wall face when two components are present. Preferably, each component has a plurality of impact absorbing indentations, each having an aperture, a base and a wall extending from the base to an aperture mouth. These indentations function to re-distribute the energy of impact when a collusion occurs between the apparatus and a moving object.

  • Patent number: 6485226
Abstract: A method of employing a safe and effective flexible plastic curb and gutter. The method of installing a curb along the side of a road having a lower layer prior to laying a top layer of asphalt on the road comprises providing elongated curb strips each having i) a horizontal holding side portion having spaced openings cut therealong; and, ii) a uniformly continuous upright trough portion having a lower edge portion continuously attached to the outer edge of the horizontal side portion. An upper edge portion of the upright trough portion is adapted to extend above the upper layer of asphalt so that water running off the road is channelled along an inner side of the upright trough portion. The horizontal holding side portion of the elongated strip is seated along and parallel to an outside edge portion of the lower layer so when the top layer of asphalt is laid thereon adhesion between the layers through the openings therethrough hold the elongate curb strip in position.

  • Patent number: 6478505
Abstract: In a traffic channeling device, a molded rib for attachment to an exterior surface of a bottom wall of a drum for inhibiting the drum from rotating relative to a rubber ballasting collar. The rib comprises an exterior surface for contact with the rubber ballasting collar, a back surface for contact with the bottom wall of the traffic channeling device, and a thickness between the exterior and back surfaces. In aspects of the device, the one or more molded ribs may be attached to the bottom wall exterior surface in a latitudinal arc of less than 180°. In further aspects of the device, locator pins radially extending from the bottom wall exterior surface complement cavities in the back surface of the molded rib. In additional aspects of the device, fasteners, such as screws, attach the molded ribs to the device such that the fasteners do not extend past a wall inside surface, thereby inhibiting marring of drum walls during stacking of the drums.
