  • Patent number: 4747000
Abstract: A cartridge receiver with a tray pivotally coupled to a cover pivots from a cartridge receiving position to an operating position in a limited amount of vertical space. A cartridge is guided into and properly aligned within the tray in the receiving position and the cover is then closed and the cartridge receiver latched into an operating position. A plunger attached to the cover exerts a downward force on the cartridge when the cover is closed. Pins attached to the frame align and support the cartridge when the cartridge receiver is in an operating position. A threading pin is coupled to the cover and the tray for engaging a cartridge leader block and a bridge is attached to the tray to align the leader block with the threading pin. The leader block is guided back into the cartridge when the tape is rewound. A cartridge present sensor, a file protect sensor, and a latch sensor are also employed as part of the cartridge receiver.

  • Patent number: 4745509
Abstract: In a magnetic head of perpendicular magnetization type having main and sub magnetic poles arranged at both sides of a recording medium, a nonmagnetic supporter holding a high permeability magnetic thin layer of the main magnetic pole is formed by a polycrystalline sintered body substantially composed of titanium carbide and alumina. This polycrystalline sintered product well matches with a recording medium having a cobalt-chromium alloy layer so that the recording medium does not wear for a long time of use, and therefore, so that the contact surface of the main magnetic pole is hardly damaged. The same sintered body may also be used for the sub magnetic pole arranged to be in contact with the recording medium. Some structural improvements are also provided so that undesirable influence due to an adhesive layer adjacent to the magnetic thin layer is removed. One or more additional thin layers may be provided for reducing crosstalk between adjacent tracks.

  • Patent number: 4743986
Abstract: A cassette transport lever is engaged by a cassette being inserted into the apparatus, for movement of the lever to an operating position; and upon subsequent reverse movement of the lever for ejecting the cassette. Upon movement of the lever to the operating position the lever engages a switch for turning on a motor which drives a control rod for controlling other apparatus functions. During ejection, guide surfaces on the control rod engage a delay element which holds the switch in the position for maintaining the motor turned on until the cassette is ejected past the position in which the motor was turned on during insertion. Upon the cassette reaching a second position, the guide surface releases the delay element so that the motor may be turned off. During insertion, the delay element engages a different portion of the guide so that the motor is only turned on when the ejection lever has been sufficiently rotated.

  • Patent number: 4742492
Abstract: Erasable programmable memory cell having a control gate, a row line and bit line is disclosed. Line driving circuitry coupled to the bit line and control gate applies a negative voltage to the bit line during the ERASE mode. The latter voltage is such that the voltage across the control gate, floating gate and drain of the floating gate transistor is sufficiently great to cause charging of the floating gate. The construction of the line driving circuit for applying the various voltages, including the negative erase voltage, to the control gate of the floating gate transistor is also disclosed. The line driving circuit is responsive to a control signal indicating the operating mode of the memory, and further includes blocking transistors so that the V.sub.pp voltage of the write operation is not coupled back to the circuit input which receives the control signal.
