  • Patent number: 5011817
Abstract: A noble unit cell structure in a magnetic memory is disclosed, in which a ferromagnetic film is sandwiched between first and second wires at a cross-over area, and third and fourth wires are provided so as to sandwich the first wire. The third wire is contacted with the first wire so as to form a ring portion surrounding the ferromagnetic film and the second wire. The fourth wire is isolated from the first wire. At least the first, second and third wires are made of superconductive material. The ferromagnetic film has a uniaxial anisotropy along the second wire and its magnetization direction can be reversed by applying pulse currents to the second and fourth wires in an information writing process. In a reading process, the magnetization direction of the ferromagnetic film can be recognized by detecting either one of a superconductive state or a normal conductive state at the ring portion of the first and third wires.

  • Patent number: 5012369
Abstract: A head suspension mechanism of a recording apparatus for flexibly carrying a transducer in a floating state. The mechanism comprises a head slider, a load beam, a spring plate, and an adjusting screw. The load beam is composed of a rigid section, a resilient section, and a holding section. The head slider is suspended at the free end of the rigid section through a gimbal. The load beam is secured to a supporting arm of the head actuator of the apparatus at the holding section, and loaded by the spring plate at the resilient section. The load is easily and precisely adjustable using the adjusting screw. Thus, the head slider contacts the disk at rest with a predetermined static load in order to maintain a favorable flying height of the head slider over the rotating disk. With the above configuration, the load provided by the spring plate is substantially increased as compared with the load to be applied to the head slider, enabling the easy and precise adjusting of the loading force.

  • Patent number: 5010426
Abstract: An installation mechanism for a removable computer drive module with a handle operated automatically engaging dual rack and pinion device. The pinions are carried by the handle which is pivotally mounted adjacent a module receiving opening in a console. The module carries a pair of rails that have the rack gears formed integrally at one end. After the handle is pivoted to an upward position, the module is inserted into the console and pushed forward engaging the handle pinions. Further pushing on the module causes driving engagement between the racks and the pinions forcing the handle to pivot downwardly. The connectors between the module and the console are engaged by grasping and rotating the handle further downwardly driving the module further into the console.

  • Patent number: 5005095
Abstract: An improved rotary actuator for torque linearization in a disk drive recording system is described. A notch is formed in the actuator frame at a point midway along one of the sidewalls of a pair of circumferential slots which define a centerpole member therebetween. These slots house the actuator coil. The notch increases the air gap between the coil and the frame at the midpoint of the data stroke. This reduces the flux density at the midpoint of the data stroke which linearizes the torque of the actuator as a function of the angular position of the coil (i.e., the coil arc). In addition, the dimension of the centerpole member which extends beyond the sweep of the coil during a data stroke is widened to decrease the air gap in these regions.

  • Patent number: 4996616
Abstract: A head suspension load beam for a disk file has a slender base portion shaped like a plate, one end of which is secured to a head actuator arm, and the other end of which supports a head. The base portion is reinforced by bending a side margin portion in the longitudinal direction of the base portion at substantially right angles to the plane of the base portion, and further by providing reinforcement ribs, the height of which does not exceed the height of the bent side margin portion, almost parallel to the side margin portion. A head suspension load beam of another embodiment of this invention is reinforced by bending the side margin portion substantially parallel with the plane of the base portion or further toward the plane of the base portion, instead of using reinforcement ribs.

  • Patent number: 4995005
Abstract: A FIFO memory device facilitates transfer of data between a host CPU and a peripheral device in one of a number of modes. In one mode, the FIFO memory device functions as two FIFO memories, one for passing data from the host CPU to the peripheral device, and one for passing data to the host CPU from the peripheral device. In another mode, the FIFO memory device functions as a single FIFO which facilitates passing data from the host CPU to the peripheral device or from the peripheral device to the host CPU. The FIFO incloudes two RAMs addressed by a set of address counters. Of importance, the host CPU can bypass the address counters to directly address each RAM, thereby reading data from or writing data into either RAM regardless of the state of the address counters.

  • Patent number: 4992900
Abstract: A rotating head wheel for a recorder is displaceable in the direction of its axis of rotation. The displacement is produced by mounting the head wheel on a threaded spindle using a nut arrangement. The spindle rotates in the same direction as the head wheel and its rate of rotation is variable. The nut arrangement includes two nuts disposed along the same axis. A spring, disposed between the two nuts, pushes the nuts in opposite directions. The nuts are capable of moving in the direction of the axis but cannot be twisted relative to each other. In this way, the threads of the nuts make continuous contact with the thread of the spindle to compensate for a backlash between the spindle and the nuts.

  • Patent number: 4992981
Abstract: The memory cell array is one in which the bit lines associated with each column of double-ended memory cells are interleaved with the bit lines of adjacent columns of memory cells. Because the spacing of metallic bit lines is governed by certain ground rules, cell length in the x-dimension could be reduced no further as long as metallic interconnections were used. To overcome the spacing limitation of metallic interconnections, polycrystalline fingers or extensions are substituted for metal cross-coupling interconnections. The latter in conjunction with metallic straps which are shorter than the widths and spacing of two metallic interconnection lines provides a significant reduction in the x-dimension and hence in cell area. The method and structure taught may be utilized with both bipolar and unipolar devices.

  • Patent number: 4992985
Abstract: An address multiplexed dynamic RAM device is provided which is capable of initiating (setting) and terminating (resetting) the test mode in response to the signal level combinations of the row address and column address strobe signals with the write enable signal, which signal level combinations correspond to those which are otherwise left unused in the normal operating mode thereby obviating the requirement of an additional external control signal terminal. Such initiating of the test mode can be effected by setting the RAS signal of the DRAM at a logic "low" level when the CAS signal and the WE signal are at a logic "low" level. Clearing or resetting thereof is effected by the same combination sequence, except that the WE signal is at a logic "high" level. The setting or initiating of a test mode is also implemented by the additional combination of one of the row address signal bits, e.g. the most significant bit.
