  • Patent number: 4631887
Abstract: A roof membrane anchoring system is provided of the non-penetrating type, including a base member with an enlarged head carried by an upstanding stem, a disc, and a socket cap which includes a top, depending legs, and feet carried at the bottoms of the legs, the cap being of somewhat resilient material. A clamp is provided for constricting the legs after the socket cap is placed over the head. When uplift forces on the membrane act to deform the disc, it acts against surfaces of the feet of the socket cap, to urge the feet together, thereby providing greater security of the socket cap during periods of high wind velocity. The base member has a passage for insertion therethrough of a fastener, the passage including a quantity of self-curing adhesive material which is cured after insertion of the linear fastener, the adhesive material serving to adhere the linear fastener either to the base member or to a holding element for the linear fastener, or both.

  • Patent number: 4630416
Abstract: A movable, prefabricated wall panel having a rigid rectangular frame. A core structure is disposed in the region bounded by the frame, which core structure preferably comprises at least one honeycomb layer. Sheetlike skins are fixedly secured to opposite sides of the frame and extends across the region bounded by the frame for confining the honeycomb layer therebetween. A plurality of small openings are formed in either or both of the skins so that they communicate with cells of the honeycomb layer to create Helmholtz sound-absorbing chambers. Each sheetlike skin is covered by a layer of porous fiberglass material for absorbing sound, which layer includes an inner thin mat of high-density fiberglass which is in turn covered by a relatively thick outer layer of low-density fiberglass. This outer layer has a variable density gradient across the thickness thereof, which density gradient progressively increases across the thickness toward the mat.

  • Patent number: 4630412
Abstract: A connection device for building structures preventing progressive collapse. A pull means (1) incorporated in the device is adapted to be connected to a part of the structure by means of a cast compound that allows controlled slippage of the pull means at a tensile stress in the pull means which is below its ultimate tensile strength. The pull means is provided with an anchoring means (2) which after abutment against a stop means (3) stops slippage after a predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 4630419
Abstract: The invention relates to building components, for example studs for supporting wall boards, made of a plaster-resin mixture, with a fibrous sheet embedded near the surface. Components according to the invention have excellent fire-resistant properties. Such components can be made by, for example, introducing a plaster-resin slurry into a mould lined with fibrous sheets, and allowing the slurry to set, or they may be made continuously by, for example, passing the slurry and sheets through one or more suitably profiled conveyors, vibration being employed to cause the slurry to penetrate through the sheets. Such components may be of H, C or U section for use as, for example, studs. They can also be used, for example, as ceiling panels or acoustic tiles, for which purposes they may be of hollow or channel form, and be filled with fibrous or other porous material.

  • Patent number: 4628647
Abstract: Method for mounting a structure comprising a number of girders or similar as a roof, floor or similar. The girders are interconnected at their lower side by a flexible sheet or similar and the unit thus assembled is pushed together by moving the girders close together and folding the flexible sheet. The unit is transported from the manufacturing place to the building site, where the unit is placed in its final place and the girders are moved apart to their final position. A structure is adapted to be mounted according to the method having girders interconnected by a flexible member at their lower ends.

  • Patent number: 4625468
Abstract: Significant, life-saving protection from airborne, radioactive (fallout) particles due to nuclear explosions, nuclear reactor accidents, and other releases of radioactive particulate is provided by a double-wall tent structure quickly erectable over a central bench or hole. The tent structure includes tightly woven, rip-resistant fabric panels supported by tensile rods or wands, a tub floor extending into and lining a central trench or hole, and an exterior, light-reflecting, metalized, semi-transparent disposable membrane. The bottom circumferential edge of the outer membrane extends into a shallow trench or ditch, excavated around the perimeter of the inner tent structure. Dust particles settling onto the smooth exterior surface of the membrane slide off and are captured in the shallow ditch, thus minimizing direct or indirect radiation into the central trench or hole and its occupants.

  • Patent number: 4621938
Abstract: A joint between a vertically oriented hollow section column (1) and a horizontal load-carrying beam (3) in a two-story building structure such as an exhibition stand, which can be rapidly erected and dismantled, includes a straight core (2) fitted into the upper end of the column (1). The quadratic hollow section core (2) has a projecting bolt head (21) at the middle of either side surface. Each side wall of the generally quadratic hollow section column (1) has a central, axial slot (12) on its inside. On its underside the beam carries a dependent guide body, the width of which corresponds to the width of the internal column slot and is guided by this slot. The short end of the beam (3) has a vertically directed Tee slot (32,36) extending upwardly from the central area of the beam for accommodating the head and a portion of the shank of the screw on the core (2).

  • Patent number: 4621475
Abstract: A structural strut having at least one surface of generally U-shaped cross section and being formed with a pair of upstanding side walls having opposed tapers. The side wall tapers of the strut shift or skew the neutral axis of the member in proportion to the relative side wall dimensions. In this manner, the strut may be used to comprise a load bearing member having a neutral axis selectively slanted to a position maximizing structural loading efficiency and interconnection. The ends of the strut are further formed of substantially planar construction for flat abutment and welded attachment to cross members of a truss thereby eliminating conventional gusset plates. The structural strut may also be constructed from a pair of such U-shaped channel sections secured back-to-back with the tapering flanges complementally positioned opposite one another for selectively shifting the neutral axis of the resulting I-beam.

  • Patent number: 4619097
Abstract: A thermally broken composite frame member, including inner and outer elongated metal elements in parallel spaced apart relation interconnected by a connector of rigid insulating material. The frame member includes a mechanical interlock between the metal elements and the connector which prevents the metal elements from becoming laterally or longitudinally displaced with respect to the connector in response to tensile or shearing forces. Thus, the stuctural integrity of the frame member is not solely dependent on the adhesion between the insulating material and the metal elements, and insulating materials which do not adhere to metal to any appreciable degree may be employed.
