Abstract: An improved hide processing machine has a hide-treating drum supported for rotation about a central longitudinal axis to retain and tumble hides and treating fluids at a closed end of the drum. The drum includes helical partition means extending across the interior of the drum and spirally along the drum axis from its closed end toward its open end, thereby dividing the drum into at least two longitudinally-extending spiral compartments. The partition means prevents movement of hides from one such compartment to another during rotation of the drum, and includes fluid-transmitting openings for free movement of treating fluid between such compartments. The helical partition means can provide a conveying force for retaining or discharging such hides when the drum is rotated in an appropriate direction.

Abstract: A new and improved cinch-type closure is provided for athletic footwear. The closure serves the combined functions of securing the athletic footwear in comfort to the wearer's foot, maintaining the primary shoe fastener, i.e., tied laces, tightly intact, and contributing to the overall support of the wearer's arch. Specifically, the cinch-type closure of the invention utilizes a pair of hooked and looped fastening tapes of the "Velcro" type for locking the cooperative cinching elements, namely, a cinching strap and a mating cinch anchor, and these elements are arranged to form an integral part of the improved athletic footwear.
Abstract: A rapidly attachable and adjustable safety buckle for a chin strap of a protective helmet having a catch rotatably fixed to the helmet, a hook having one end attached to the chin strap and the other end terminating in a special protuberance, the catch having a cavity therein for receiving the specially shaped protuberance, and means for biasing the buckle toward a closed position with the protuberance being locked into the cavity.
Abstract: A kit for converting a conventional necktie to a pre-knotted tie that is attached to the neck of a wearer by detachable hook and eye fasteners. The kit includes two flexible strips, each fitted with one mating section of a detachable fastener and each formed on its underside with an adhesive coating so that a necktie, properly knotted in place about the neck of a user may be cut along the neck strap section and each of the strips then fastened to the opposed cut ends of the neck strap. The kit also includes a disc coated on both sides with a self-adhering adhesive which may be fastened in place under a folded knot section of the tie to hold the knot section in shape.
Abstract: A roll of the type which is used in a paper machine has an inner roll body covered with a plurality of strips. The strips include pairs of strip portions situated one next to the other along the roll body and covering the outer surface thereof. Each pair of strip portions extends through 360.degree. around the roll body with each pair of strip portions including one strip portion at least part of which circumferentially surrounds and overlaps at least part of the other of each pair of strip portions. This one of each pair of strip portions circumferentially presses radially inwardly against at least said part of the other of each pair of strip portions to press the other of each pair of strip portions against the outer surface of the roll body.
Abstract: A roll manufacturing method and roll, particularly for paper machines, wherein an inner roll body is surrounded by a strip having circumferential portions such as windings which engage and extend outwardly from an exterior surface of the inner roll body with the successive windings or circumferential strip portions engaging each other so that the engaging side surfaces of successive strip turns define an interface between themselves. The side surfaces of the strip are formed with registering grooves which thus define a bore extending across the interface, and an elongated interlocking member is situated in the latter bore so as to interlock the successive turns or circumferential strip portions against radial displacement outwardly away from the inner roll body. The interlocking member preferably has a fluid-tight sealing engagement with the groove surfaces which define the bore which receives the interlocking member, so that the interlocking member also forms a moisture barrier.
Abstract: Device for a safety helmet with ear mufflers, where each ear muffler is mounted on an arm which is mounted on the helmet pivotally in a plane parallel to the longitudinal direction of the helmet. The mufflers with arms are also pivotal in a plane across the longitudinal direction of the helmet, adjustable from a noise-deadening position where the mufflers are against the ears, to an out-swung and stopped position.
Abstract: Foot protector for use in safety footwear, shaped of a plastic material that is adapted to the shape of the foot, and being preferably of the polycarbonate type. The protector comprises a toe cap and an instep cap, with a lower part that is shaped so as to be secured to the sole of the footwear, to prevent the foot protector from penetrating into the sole.
Abstract: A split type sectional forming roll in which a split roll is formed at least two roll segments, a separating line of a roll segment to have an acute angle in a roll segment section adjacent to a side portion of another roll segment has an angle to a vertical line which is perpendicular to a roll shaft in outer peripheral portion and a separating line parallel to the above described vertical line in inner peripheral portion.Thereby the roll segments prevents damages of roll such as breakage or chipping out so that this split type sectional forming roll has a longer life sharply.
Abstract: An outerwear coat or jacket is provided with a removable liner whereby the liner has fastener means spaced from the edges of the liner adapted to engage mating fastener means on the edges of the outer shell so as to leave marginal panels projecting from the front edge of the outer shell to effectively increase the overall girth of the outerwear when the liner is fitted to the outer shell such that the internal girth is the same when the outer shell is worn with the liner as when the outer shell is worn independently.
Abstract: A safety boot has a lower foot receiving portion incorporating wearer instep protection in the form of a relatively rigid inverted U-shaped guard of hard non-brittle synthetic plastics material extending over the metatarsal region of the wearer's foot and downwardly at opposite sides to terminate in edges in substantial abutment with the sole whereby impact and crushing forces are transmitted substantially straight down the sides to be distributed and absorbed along the sole.
Abstract: The invention provides a mechanism attachable to a rolling pin such as is used by bakers in the working of dough, the present mechanism having an edge member closely adjacent the cylindrical working surface of the rolling pin and extending longitudinally along the length of said pin. The edge member of the present mechanism acts to strip dough from the rolling pin during rolling of the dough.
Abstract: A controlled deflection roll is disclosed comprising a roll shell rotatable about a stationary beam and at least one hydrostatic support element therebetween. The support element is in the form of a piston tiltably guided in a cylindrical bore formed in the beam and the roll is provided with a seal for sealing off the intermediate space between the piston and the wall of the bore. The seal includes a sealing member disposed in a circumferential groove formed in the wall of the bore which is in seal-tight engagement with the piston and is support on at least one of its sides by an annular support member positioned in the groove and extending part way into the intermediate space.
