  • Patent number: 4118959
Abstract: An improved hide processing machine has a hide-treating drum supported for rotation about a central longitudinal axis to retain and tumble hides and treating fluids at a closed end of the drum. The drum includes helical partition means extending across the interior of the drum and spirally along the drum axis from its closed end toward its open end, thereby dividing the drum into at least two longitudinally-extending spiral compartments. The partition means prevents movement of hides from one such compartment to another during rotation of the drum, and includes fluid-transmitting openings for free movement of treating fluid between such compartments. The helical partition means can provide a conveying force for retaining or discharging such hides when the drum is rotated in an appropriate direction.

  • Patent number: 4114297
Abstract: A new and improved cinch-type closure is provided for athletic footwear. The closure serves the combined functions of securing the athletic footwear in comfort to the wearer's foot, maintaining the primary shoe fastener, i.e., tied laces, tightly intact, and contributing to the overall support of the wearer's arch. Specifically, the cinch-type closure of the invention utilizes a pair of hooked and looped fastening tapes of the "Velcro" type for locking the cooperative cinching elements, namely, a cinching strap and a mating cinch anchor, and these elements are arranged to form an integral part of the improved athletic footwear.

  • Patent number: 4104773
Abstract: A roll manufacturing method and roll, particularly for paper machines, wherein an inner roll body is surrounded by a strip having circumferential portions such as windings which engage and extend outwardly from an exterior surface of the inner roll body with the successive windings or circumferential strip portions engaging each other so that the engaging side surfaces of successive strip turns define an interface between themselves. The side surfaces of the strip are formed with registering grooves which thus define a bore extending across the interface, and an elongated interlocking member is situated in the latter bore so as to interlock the successive turns or circumferential strip portions against radial displacement outwardly away from the inner roll body. The interlocking member preferably has a fluid-tight sealing engagement with the groove surfaces which define the bore which receives the interlocking member, so that the interlocking member also forms a moisture barrier.
