Abstract: A molded thermoplastic product is disclosed. The product has an outer surface with a matte finish. The matte finish is produced by the combination of an etched mold in which the product is molded to physically affect the outer surface and a colorant compounded in the thermoplastic to chemically affect the outer surface. The colorant provides a diffused translucency. The etching adds tactile texture. The product is made by blow-molding techniques. Containers such as shampoo bottles can benefit from such visual and tactile sensations for the purpose of creating a trade dress for a consumer product.
Abstract: Shaped waterproofing membranes having three-dimensional contours are useful for the “reverse tanking” waterproofing of detail areas such as those presented by “tiebacks,” pipes, pile caps, and other irregularities that occur on concrete formworks and other civil construction or building surfaces. A preferred method for making such membranes is to thermoform a membrane laminate, having a carrier support sheet, waterproofing adhesive, and optionally a protective coating layer, as a single unit.

Abstract: A vacuum insulation panel (VIP) in an example comprises first and second walls and a plurality of tensile elements. The first and second walls are structurally coupled to allow formation of a vacuum cavity between the first and second walls. The plurality of tensile elements structurally supports the first and second walls against external pressure contemporaneous with tension on the plurality of tensile elements. The plurality of tensile elements is located in the vacuum cavity between the first and second walls.

Abstract: There is provided an adhesive film for stacking semiconductor layers of chips comprising: a first adhesive layer comprising phenoxy resin, epoxy resin and phenol resin; a second adhesive layer comprising phenoxy resin and an ultraviolet ray curable compound; and a third adhesive layer comprising phenoxy resin, epoxy resin and phenol resin, wherein the second adhesive layer is disposed between the first adhesive layer and the third adhesive layer.
Abstract: Disclosed is a cellulose acylate film produced according to a melt casting process and having an Re unevenness of from 0 to 10%. When built in a liquid-crystal display device, the film significantly solves the problem of display unevenness and humidity-dependent visibility change.
Abstract: A method of overmolding a substrate having a first side and a second side and a product made by that process. A plurality of support feet are placed on the first side of the substrate. The substrate is placed in an injection mold. The mold is filled with a molding material with the molding material enveloping both the first side and the second side of the substrate. The substrate is removed having been overmolded from the injection mold.

Abstract: The roll properties of tissue sheets are improved either by imparting cross-machine direction dominant bar-like protrusions to the air side of the tissue by using specially woven transfer fabrics and/or by offsetting recurring surface features of the sheet relative to the surface features of adjacent sheets within the roll, such as by providing a throughdryer fabric with an offset seam. Both techniques provide the resulting tissue sheets with improved capabilities for providing an improved combination of roll bulk and roll firmness.

Abstract: An ophthalmic blocking pad includes a foam layer, a film layer disposed over and directly contacting the foam layer, and an adhesive layer disposed over the film layer. The film layer has a tensile strength of at least about 25 ksi (172 MPa).
Abstract: An original sheet of a retroreflective sheet includes plural glass beads with a metal reflective layer provided on lower hemisphere surfaces thereof, a resin support sheet for supporting the glass beads, and a transparent cover film disposed on a surface side of the resin support sheet, wherein the resin support sheet and the cover film are connected to each other by heat press emboss forming from a rear face of the resin support sheet so as to form the original sheet of the retroreflective sheet, and a retroreflective sheet laminate includes a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer and a resin release film for covering the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on a rear side of the original sheet of the retroreflective sheet.
Abstract: A lightweight acoustical panel having a substantially monolithic appearance and high sound absorption capabilities is manufactured at a lower cost than acoustical panels having comparable properties. The panel is formed, punched with pins and coated with a coarse particle coating.
Abstract: A resin matrix connects a plurality of longitudinally aligned fibers together adjacent an outer side of the reinforcement. The outer side of the reinforcement has elongated peaks and elongated valleys. The valleys are defined by a space absent the resin matrix and located between the longitudinally aligned fibers located between the fibers. The elongated peaks are associated with the longitudinally aligned fibers. An adhesive connects the outer side of the reinforcement to the outer side of the wood structural member. The adhesive bonds to the plurality of valleys of the reinforcement. An apparatus for manufacturing the reinforcement is also provided.
Abstract: A floor covering has an exposed surface with substantially the same gloss level and at least two portions having different tactile surface characteristics. The difference in the tactile surface characteristics between the two portions is at least an average RPc of 4. The floor covering includes a substrate and a high performance coating overlying the substrate. The high performance coating comprises texture particles, which may be organic polymer particles. The floor covering is made by forming a high performance coating including the texture particles on a substrate, at least partially curing the high performance coating, and then while controlling the temperature of the high performance coating below the melting point temperature or softening point temperature of the texture particles and above the temperature at which the texture particles deform under the applied mechanical embossing pressure, subjecting the first and second portions to different mechanical embossing conditions.
